Eggs Beginners Guide To SS13 Do you want to play SS13? Do you like learning how to do things by YOURSELF? D o you want to stumble around the mess of controls for a month like everyone else? Then get lost! This guide is for WINNERS , protect yourself from LOSERS with my beginner’s guide to becoming robust , learning how to do your job and what the fuck is going on ! Though, firstly, I would recommend at least skimming over the official wiki guide for new players , as it covers some things that I have left out, such as installation and rules. As this guide largel y focuses on how to grow your knowledge from a near bare beginner, to a semi capable crew member This guide roughly covers; • The default HUD + Usage of its features • The usage of the chat, radio and commands • Character creation • Commonly used hotkeys/shortcu ts + general knowledge • Advice for beginner jobs • Fairly in depth Medical guide • Combat + General robustness • Basic Greytiding knowledge Oh, and as much as I preach power gaming and “winning” Don’t , just enjoy the game and play it in a way you find fun. The main purpose of this guide is to get people over the massive learning curve new players face. Use the tools in this guide to keep having fun and to robust the nerds who try to beat you for it. Before you begin Some general advice to save you from getting banned or pissed off • Don’t be afraid to A - help, Admins a re there for a reason, if you think you were killed by a non - antag, don’t be afraid to a - help it. • Read the rules, specifically the no sexual references and anti - slur stuff. The admins are strict on this and it’s good to play it safe. • If you get messaged by an admin, do what they say , arguing with them is a sure - fire way to get booted. They have logs of fucking everything , lying is useless • Go easy with the violence if you aren’t an antag, best thing to do until you get a handle on what’s acceptable, is just run away and cry to security. Don’t protect your department like it’s your baby T he Hands Used for holding t hings, Duh. You can quickly switch between your two hands quickly by pressing E Throwing/Dropping You should never need to touch this. As you can drop items with Q and throw things by holding down SPACE and clicking on a faraway tile. You can also cat ch thrown items by holding down Space or having the throw button down You’ll need to do this in order to have grenades not blow up in your face The Hotbar Used for just about everything, from storing things and wearing clothes, to advanced item manipulation Limb Targeting A largely unused feature in everyday play, only really being used in medical procedures and whi le us ing weapons such as the katana to cleave off specific limbs. Though it may not serve many uses in everyday play, it can help to do some extra damage by targeting less armoured parts of a victim. You can target different limbs by either clicking on di fferent parts of the icon, or pressing 5 - 0 on your keyboard. Storage Slots Your belt slot, backpack slot, and 2 pockets. Your pockets can hold small and tiny items, useful for carrying your cash around or storing your O2 tank Your backpack can hold just about everything, and can be opened by clicking on it. Your belt , if you manage to find one. Effectively acts as an extra set of around 8 pockets, holding small items. Great for holding a bunch of tools. You can pull your belt or backpack into your hands by click - dragging it into your hand slot. The Mess Of A HUD And A Breakdown Of Its Parts Don’t be intimidated by the wall of text under each of these, I re ally explain them to their fullest. You should be able to gather what they do from the first sentence or so. The Intents The difference between you patting someone on the head or punching them in the face. Intents are arguably one of the most important parts of understanding SS13. Each hand icon represents a different intent, those being Help The least feature intensive intent, used mostly for shaking people and putting out flaming crewmates Disarm A great tool for in fights, used to knock weapons out of people’s hands, and to knock them over. You can also push som eone out of the way if you click on a faraway tile with someone ahead of you. Grab Grab is the most advanced intent of the 4, having many interactions with the world around you. Grabbing a player once will result in a light grab , acting like a pull. Gra bbing them again, results in an aggressive grab , pulling them onto you, from here you have a few options, ranging from slamming people through tables to suplexes , all of which are covered in the combat section Harm Used for punching, stabbing, slashing and every other form of harm you’ll ever need to inflict, although not necessarily needed for most weapons aside from enabling special attacks. Still a good idea to get into habit of switching to it during combat The Other , Less Cool Intents /States Run/Walk lets you switch between running, and walking. Running lets you move faster and look cooler. Whereas walking makes you move slower, but you won’t slip on puddles or set off the security flashers. Pull is used when you want to STOP pulling someth ing, just click on it and you’ll let go. You can also start pulling something with this, but that’s for nerds, and the fact you’re using this guide means you aren’t a nerd. Just use the hotkey for it ; ctrl+left click Resist is used to shrug off other peo ple’s grabs, wiggle out of your handcuffs, and stop drop and roll to put out fire. Z also works as a hotkey for this Stand/Laying is used to lay down, laying down lets you crawl under people and some objects, it can also make some projectiles such as ta sers fly right over you , matrix style. Abilities/Inv The INV icon is used to hide your clothing tab so it looks all neat, or quickly equip items The Abil button is used to hide/reveal any genetics abilities you may have Clothing Your clothing tab is u sed to equip different clothes, ID’s, headsets, helmets, glasses and so on, Different items can be added/removed simply by clicking, though you can quickly swap them in by pressing Z The Mask Slot A quick addition to the clothing tab above, the mask slo t is used for not only equipping masks, but cigarettes and other items too. Health/Stamina/Temperature/O2 Icons The three icons you will likely look at the most during gameplay and interweaved with most things you do. Mask/Basic O2 Tip This icon will be on the top left of your screen as long as you are wearing a mask. But an oxygen mask is useless without a tank to attach it to. The most comm only used tank is an emergency oxygen tank. If you manage to get your grubby hands on a tank, as long as it is either in your hands, pockets, belt slot (not in a belt) , or on your back, yo u will be able to switch over to breathing through it Health – Measures your overall HP, as you get hurt, you might begin to limp and move slower, or even begin passing out from the pain. This is covered more in the medical section Stamina – Used largely in combat and movement. Every swing of a weapon, tile sprinted or time you are hit will use stamina. The lower your stamina the easier it will be for someone to disarm you and k nock you down, which can easily lead to a cycle of getting pushed down and beaten. Temperature – An indicator of how hot/cold you are. If you’re freezing, you will gain status effects that slow you down drastically, if scorching hot, well then you’re pro bably on fire and should put yourself out O2 – This icon only shows up if you don’t have any O2 and are suffocating. Best put on a mask, or move to somewhere with O2 The Grosser UI To the right of everything you’ll find the gross wall of text that is chat, and console. Chat Despite the appearance seeming overwhelming, you’ll only really be using this to read radio messages, (The messages in green, or really any other colour than white) I’ll briefly cover what the different coloured text in chat me ans White : Text that has been said by someone whilst on your screen, good for if you missed what they said when the text popped up above them Green : The most common radio type, a standard radio transmission sent by anyone with a headset, even you! To sen d a radio message, either press Y , and select the general channel. Or press T , and place a; ahead of your message Red / Blue / Pink / Yellow /Some Other Colour : A departmental radio message, good for speaking to other people working your same job without spammin g the main radio channel You might also notice that there are small icons next to the name of who sent the radio message, such as this one > < which is the AI’s. This is good for quickly identifying the rank of whoever is speaking and promptly ignoring said rank. NEED SOMETHING HERE The C onsole A largely un - important part of the HUD, though still used fairly often in play. Mostly used to display information or open the wiki/forums/maps from in game Switching from the “status” tab onto another can give a minor ping boost too 👍 Commands Holds all the funny buttons like “suicide” Map Info Shows the current, and upcoming map Bug Report Not used a heap, but it’s always good to report them The Actual Map O pens the goon hub interactive map of the current map Game mode Shows the current game mode, usually secret Shift Time Shows the duration of the round, the ETA to shuttle will also appear below if it’s called Misc. Links Links to the public GitHub , goon station forums, and the wiki P ing Displays your ping to the server. This sits around 80 - 100 for the average player, due to the server being in Canada . Though mine sits at 130 - 160 due to living in kangaroo land. Commands Claim Reward Let’s you collect special items/skins for medals you have earn ed Notes Let’s you see your bank pin and objectives. But most importantly your activation code as traitor DNR/Do Not Revive Will let you toggle DNR. Preventing you from getting respawned in any manner Who/A - Who Pulls a list of all players/admins connected to the server Suicide Let’s you kill yourself! Try standing near different things for special suicides In the tab over from status , used for little interactions. Most aren’t aw fully important, but some can be useful for general information. Pray Sends a little message to the admins. Use it for jokes/requests. And AHELP for bad reporting players Praying in the chapel will make your prayer more noticeable! Name/Gender/Other Stuff Changes what your name is, what sex your body is, what your contextual pronouns are, your age, your blood type (this has no real effect), and your bank pin. Flavour Text/Sec + Medical Notes Flavour text is a little string of text that appears when people examine you, good for a little description of you or a joke. Security/Medical notes a li ttle note that will show up on your sec/med records PDA Ringtone/Colour Changes the little noise you get upon receiving a message, and the colour of the background Character Profiles Different save files for your characters, save to save a person the that slot, load to load the character saved to that slot. Other Tabs Appearance; Changes how you look Occupation; Chang es your job preferences and antag preferences Traits; Lets you change your traits, most of these are impractical, or funny. Though some let you change your race/gives you buffs. Character Setup And Preround Menu Found at pre - round by clicking “character” on th e small menu. Use it to customise your character and give yourself a unique look Ranks Ranks really don ’ t matter too much, but I’ll briefly touch on them. Depending on what server you are on you should treat these differently. Generally, on GOON 1 & 2, the non - RP servers. You can generally ignore people above you and nothing will come of it. Although on GOON 3 & 4, the RP servers, you should probably listen to your superiors Security . Pretty much the lowest form of command, and a bunch of losers with a power fantasy. Probably good to stay out of the way or do as they sa y, as an annoyed loser is a dangerous one Captain & HOP . The captain is effectively just a staff assistant with a gun and a shiny ID. They have authority over all other departments and crew, but are usually promptly ignored. The HOP on the other hand is s lightly less of a nerd, and has power over all departments aside security Other Heads . The RD, CE and MD, hea d of sci, engineering and medical respectively have power over their department specifically HOS. Head of security stink, effectively outranks the captain. Nerd supreme, avoid at all costs , that’s not a joke, they will mess your shit up. In game Slang/Lingo Like every niche group, SS13 has a mountain of abbreviations and slang. To save you the embarrassment of asking what everything is, I’v e listed most of it here Robust – Used widely as another word for skilful or knowledgeable about the game Robusted – Being beaten in a fight by someone skilful RD/CE/MD/HOS – Research Di rector/Chief Engineer/Medical Director/Head Of Security Ling - Changeling (A shapeshifting monster) Nukies – A bunch of nuke wielding spec op’s coming to blow up the station. QM – Quarter Master, the guys who run cargo Revs - Revolutionaries trying to kill the heads Greytide – In reference to the “Tide/wave” of grey suited staff assistants that come with exposure to the game, typically after a YouT ube video and such. TTV – Tank Transfer Valve, A type of bomb made in science by a bunch of nerds Power gamer – Someone who is knowledgeable about the game, and abuses this knowledge to get an unfair advantage Spaced – The act of throwing someone/something into the void of space Azone - An “Adventure Zone”, cool custom - made areas kind of like a massive puzzle, with lore and lots of loot Maint - The maintenance halls, dimly lit areas where clowns huff paint Staffie – Staff assistant Singuloose – The black hole in the singularity generator has broken loose and is eating the station Not Getting Banned This is by no means a common issue, but it’s good to know how to talk to admins after kil ling a small gathering as a non antag. Unless you absolutely did not do it, do not deny it , the admins have logs of everything and this will only get you in the shit Be respectful , this is the person who is deciding whether you get booted. Be nice. Not kn owing the rules is not an excuse for breaking them , Seen this a few times. Not a good look Never Ever log off whilst talking to them , this won’t let you avoid talking to them, just get you banned Stuff You Should Kno w Before We Move On Hotkeys Good for reducing 5 clicks down to 1, and reducing the tedium of everyday tasks General F1 = AdminHelp F3 = MentorHelp Space + Click = Throw Alt + Click = Examine Ctrl + Cl ick = Pull B + Click = Point “ - “ = Toggle Walk/Run “=” = Toggle Lay/Stand Emotes F = Fart R = Flip Ctrl + Q = Wave Ctrl + W = Wink Ct rl + E = Raise Eyebrow Ctrl + A = Salute Ctrl + B = Burp Ctrl + D = Dance Ctrl + G = Gasp Ctrl + H = Raise Hand Ctrl + N = Nod Ctrl + S = Scream Ctrl + X = Flex Ctrl + Y = Yawn Ctrl + Z = Snap Fingers M = Custom Emote Common Use T = Talk Y= Radio C = Use Item In hand E= Switch Hand Q = Drop Item Z = Resist V = Auto Equip Pointers For First Time Antagonists I wanted t o put this further down in this, but couldn’t find something to fill this space :) Well shit, some big popup appeared on your screen saying you just rolled an antag and y ou have no idea what to do. Firstly , read the WIKI article on your antag to get an idea of what you do . But just to clarify some things people seem to get confused by ; • Antags are immune to the anti - grief rules . That means you can kill and destroy freely, no matter who you kill, you’ll be fine • P eople are allowed to freely kill you if you are an antag, try not to get too upset about this . But it can definitely be annoying • Don ’ t rampage as your first antag , I promise you, you will die. I f you don ’ t want to ruin your round, play it a bit safer Your First Job A great starting job is that of the humbl e janitor, making it your job to mop up the hallways full of blood and organs. Janitor is often seen as the starter job, due to it being easy to do, teaching you many useful hotkeys/game mechanics, and letting you explore the station with no real responsib ility. Tools Of The Trade Mop ; Used to wipe up puddles of liquids off the floor, or can be wet in a bucket or such to clean the floors / Mop Bucket/Bucket; A bucket! For holding water! The mop b ucket is just a larger version that can be pulled along with you and holds much more water than its counterpart. These can be filled at sinks, or using other containers to move in water Buff - R - Matic; Your “swag mobile”, think of a ride on lawnmower, but w ith a mop attached to the bottom. It has a tank attached that can be filled with water, and a toggleable setting to leave a trail of water to clean as you ride. Cleaner Grenade; Your first tes t of your throwing skills. Creates a foam puddle that cleans the room of everything but puddles. To activate, either click on it, or press c while holding it. Then, press space and click where you want to throw it Sponge; A less cool mop, though can be used to clean messes off walls. Vacuum; A underused , but very helpful tool that can be used to suck up loose items off the floor and into an attached garbage bag. Said bag can be attached by h olding a trash bag and clicking on the vacuum Trash Bags; A box full of bags that can hold several loose items. I’m All Geared Up, What Now? Clean! That’s what! But really, janitor is a good combination of everything you’ll have learnt so far. You’ll need to read the radio, use your backpack, use hotkeys, use items on the world around you, and worst of all, t alk to people! How horrifying! Don’t feel too overwhelmed though, nobody is a pro on their first round. It took me 3 rounds to even realise I had a backpack. Take the game at your own pace, and don’t feel too stressed a bout it all. How do I clean things though? Exploded Person; So, someone just burst open and now there’s a pool of blood and organs all around the room. The first step would be to mop up the pool of blood to stop people trekking the blood around on the bot tom of their shoes, then pick up any organs with either a vacuum or your hands, lastly, use your mop , a spray bottle , or a sponge to wipe up the dried blood on the floor. Puddle Of Something : Use your mop to wipe it up. If said puddle is full of something seemingly harmful, it may be wise to wash your mop in your bucket, then empty your bucket out, as it’s now full of said chemical. Huge Blood Filled Battleground; Surprisingly easy to handle, mop up any blood pools, vacuum up any organs/debris, then use a cl eaner grenade to clean up all the mess. Medical Systems Surgery Tools :Scalpel = For Cutting thin tissues :Circular Saw = For getting through pesky bones :Surgical Scissors = For those real small tubes :Enucleation Spoon = Fancy soup spoon for prying out eyes :Suture = For sewing up your patient so their organs don’t all fall out :Staple Gun = For holding that brand - new organs in place while you sew them up. Medical at a base level is not hard at all (Most of the time) , and mostly boils down to filling people with as many relevant drugs as po ssible. Although severely injured crewmates may require defibrillation, or completely new organs, they may have shrapnel, bullets, or parasitic aliens inside them that need to be removed. In this section I’ll cover a more than the bare basics, and more th an enough to become a medical doctor. Your Most Important Tools Medical Scanner; THE most important part of your equipment, used to show what types of damage someone has, what reagents are in them, and any advanced ailments affecting them such as cardiac arrest or nanobotic transformation. Auto Mender; Does 90% of your job for you. Applies medical reagents to a target and automatically stops once they are healed . Refills can be bought at Medivends Defibrillator; Used to start people’s hearts again and even has a chance to cure 60 O2 damage to those in crit Medical Machines Sleeper; Another machine that does your job for you, grabbing someone and putting them in will allow you to hit inject, in fill them with helpful drugs. Or set a t imer to allow the sleeper to inject automatically over time Cryo Pod; Turning it on, and placing in a beaker of cryoxadone will allow you to place people in it, stabilizing those in c rit, and healing organs Medivend; A vending machine for medical supplies. Pretty straight forward Operating Table; Patients must be on one of these in order to have surgery performed upon them Morgue Unit; Never really used but prevents corpses for rotting. Good for if there’s a big line for cloning Cloning Cloning consists of four d ifferent machines, the scanner , the console , the reclaimer , and the cloning pod Step 1. Place the corpse/willing crewmate into the scanner and hit the scan button on the console Step 2. Hit the clone button next to the name of the corpse on the consol e, if it was a living person then there is no need for this until they die Step 3. Place the corpse into the reclaimer to strip the body of usable biomatter for future clones Hobo Healing You won’t always be able to make it to medbay after severe injuries , so you’ll need to resort to h o b o m e d i c a l in order to stabilize yourself. So, here’s a shor t list of how to get your body back together all by yourself Bleeding ; Welding tools and lighters can be used to cauterize your wounds on the go, at the cost of some burn damage. Bedsheets can also be ripped up and used as bandages, this is preferable as you won’t take any damage. Bar Patches ; Near the bar on most maps you can find some burn and brute patches, that can heal you up good. Minimeds , small public medical vendors also sit around security, medical and the bar. Defib; Multitools special attack, shocked doors and getting beat with the stunning end of a baton can give you the defibrillation effect, and get your heart going again Food; Eating food can heal you i f you’re above something like 60% health, and something like 20% if you have the survivalist trait. Though keep an eye out for the holy grail of hobo healing, Donk pockets, they generally come in a box and can be found around some crew quarters, in fridge s and at the radio station. Upon being heated in an oven or microwave, they become filled with a great healing chem. Soda; Many of the soda’s in game contain drugs, It’s probably legal. Robust - Eez has meth, which is a great stamina booster and stu n reducer DR. Pu bbers has Morphine and Halo peridol, good pain blockers that will remove the slow - down from being hurt Lime - A id contains antihol, good for purging alcohol from your system Orange - Aid contains oculine, repairing damage to your eyes and ears , good for if sec got carried away with the flashes. Cold Beer will heal a good amount of toxin damage too Limb Re - Attachment; After you’ve been caught in a blast, and managed to crawl away with legs in hand you’ll want to reattach them. Using a regular bed, you’ll be able to attach your limb back into its socket and use a regular office stapler to keep it in place. •Lungs = snip → saw → L/Rsnip •Appendix = snip → snip → snip •Liv er = snip → snip → cut •Stomach = snip → cut → snip •Intestines = snip → cut → cut •Pancreas = cut → snip → snip •Spleen = cut → snip → cut •Kidneys = cut → cut → L/Rsnip •Heart = cut → saw → cut → saw •Brain = cut → saw → cut → saw •Eyes = L/R spoon → L/R cut → L/R spoon •Limbs = cut → saw → cut •Tail = saw → cut → saw •Butt = Harm intent → cut→ saw→ cut→ saw •Head = Harm intent→ cut → saw → cut → saw Foreign Object D etected (Bullets or Shrapnel) = Scalpel Chest to remove Foreign Object Below Ster num = Sca lpel Chest Grab Intent to remove Attach Item Arm = Remove arm → Click item on target → suture Insert Chest Item = cut → click item on target → suture Insert New Organ/Limb/Anything Really = Remove old organ → Click on target with new organ → Sutur e :Scalpel = Cut :Circular Saw = Saw :Surgical Scissors = Snip :Enucleation Spoon = Spoon :Suture = Suture :Staple Gun = Staple L/R = Tool In Left/Right Hand Surgery Probably don’t need to cover this, but always nice to know. Surgery is mostly used for removal of shrapnel, or replacement of old organ s You’ll need to use the limb targeting part of the HUD for this, and organs will be where you expect. Organs in the chest, brain in the head, and arm in the arm. Surgery Tips Improvised Surgery; You can use common utensils as stand - in for medical equipment Scalpels= Glass Shards/Knifes Saws= Forks/Pizza Cutter Eye Spoon= Spoons Surgical Scissors = Scissors/Wirecutters Staple Gun= Stapler Self - Surgery You can per form perform surgery on yourself, by dragging yourself onto the operating table, then standing up. You can also do surgery standing up if you have 5u of morphine in you, Or are blackout drunk INSERT SURGERY PIC HERE. IMAGINE A FUNNY THING HERE Combat Fighting in ss13 has evolved a lot since it’s conception, it ’s no longer ; apply toolbox to spaceman, till spaceman is horizontal. Now being chair flip into spaceman, stab with glass shard, suplex them into a glass table and fart on the body. You will lose your first fight, especially against the more robust of the co mmunity. But these pointers should give you at least a fighting chance. Intents During Fighting Help – You likely won’t be using much of this, although. If you are with others, you can use help on them to help them up and heavily redu ce stuns, roughly 10 seconds per shake. Disarm – For stealing other weapons and pushing people over. Use this at the right time and you can turn a fight around in a second, security isn’t so scary when you have their baton. Grab – God , this has a lot o f uses, lots with aggressive grabs, which if you’ve forgotten is when you grab someone a second time, pulling them into your arms . I’ll refer to these as A - grab’s A - grab + R; Suplex , a funny move that will deal some small brute damage, and stun you both. I f you get good at it, you can suplex someone, then quickly throw them as well to create some distance A - grab + Table; Table slam, a pretty mediocre move on regular tables, causing some light damage and stun. But on glass tables it has a chance to slam them through the table, dealing massive damage and bleed A - grab + Grab again ; Choking, an ok finishing move, takes a moment to get them into, though will deal constant O2 damage and makes it tough for them to escape your grab Grab + Floor; Pin, clicking on an adjacent floor tile will put them into a pin. A very hard position for them to escape, and allows you to continue to beat them without them fighting back. If you get a good pin, then you win A - grab + Space; Throw, for spacing people, or otherwise. It shoul d be noted that you can throw people laying down/stunned with a regular grab. A good combo is disarm + grab + throw into danger, all within that short stun from the disarm Standing above chair + Grab self; Chair flip , grabbing yourself above a chair, or jus t pressing Z. well make you climb up onto it, and allow you to “chairflip” off it onto someone else. Pretty much just a portable suplex. Good for knocking things out of people’s hands Harm – Not necessarily needed to stab and murder people, but good to get in the habit of switching to it, to use special attacks and not accidently help someone instead of hurting them Basic Tips • Watch your stamina. Don’t sprint in fights unless you need to, and don’t use special attacks with low stamina • Abuse y our enemies’ stamina . Your enemies are dumb and won’t do tip #1, Once you think they are low on stamina, disarm them. You’ll tip them over in one push and be able to pick up the weapon that flew from their hands. • Suplexing is great with teams Suplexing is a good little move that will stun both you and your target, good for if you’re in a team who can gang up on the stunned target while you’re both stunned. • Walk in bloody areas . Walking will stop you slipping and dropping your things. This is pretty much a m ust if you are playing Nukies or going on a rampage. • A little prep goes a long way. Flashes and 22.mm ammo can be acquired from hacked fabricators, and flamers, zip guns and other weapons can be hand crafted. You can find instructions on construction here • The boxing ring. The edges of the boxing rings act like chairs that you can chair flip off. Just clickdrag yourself onto the corner of the ring • Become a junkie. Drugs will massively increase your combat abil ity. Meth is a solid pick due to the increased stamina regen and decreased stuns. • Resist Grabs . If someone grabs you, something painful is likely soon to follow. You can struggle out of their grip by pressing Z, though it may take a few tries • Observe your surroundings Like in real life, the world around you can be used to great effect. Look for tables, chairs, weapons, plates, anything that you can use to clown on others • Throw people into vending machines. From chance to have them collapse on your victim, dealing some damage and 30 seconds stun Speaking of, lets observe! Chairs for suplexing Glass tables for slamm ing Airlocks for spacing Toolbox as a weapon Glass shards from broken tables. Disposal chute for a quick getaway Vending machine to stun with Tools Screwdriver Multitool Wire cutters Crowbar Insulated Gloves Door Hacking So, the AI has gone rouge and is bolting all the doors shut whilst filling the station with flammable gasses, or perhaps you want to bust into somewhere you’re not meant to. If o nly there was a way to get through those pesky doors. That’s why we have hacking! The first step to breaking into a door is to get a hold of a screwdriver and use it to unscrew the maintenance panel on the door. After which you’ll be presented with a list of wires, it’s important to understand that what the wires do are randomised every round. So, there is some trial and error finding the correct wire at first. Our goal is to use a multitool to find out what the wires do, and then pulse/cut the correct one s. (Note; You’ll need to close the maintenance panel to use the door again) Find below what all the wires do. Some More Things You Might Want To Know In your time spent exploring space, you might encounter a secure safe . Lots of goodies are often in these, from guns and cash, to gold and skulls. Let’s break in! To crack a safe, we first need to understand how they work. Each safe has a randomly generated 4 - digit pin, consisting of a combination of numbers from 1 - 9 and letters A - E. So, let ’ s go ahead and click on the safe to bring up its menu, t hen enter 1234 into the safe. Did you hear a beep? If so, read chat and note if the chat says the safe made a beep or a boop . A beep means that a digit is in the correct place, a boop means that a correct digit was used, but not in the correct place. If you got multiple beeps/boops it means multiple digits are correct Now we just need to use deduction. My tactic for doing this is finding a number that does not cause a boop (this means it’s not used in the passcode) , Let’s use 0 as an example and using it to find what numbers are used in the code. I would go 1000 and see if I get a boop , if not, then I move on to 2000 and so on. Once I find one which causes a boop, then moving it along the password until it beeps instead of boops , such as having 4000 makin g a boop then moving it down to 0400>0040>0004 until it beeps. Upon finding all 4 digits and their position, the safe will unlock. To actually open the safe, click - drag it onto you. Secure Safe Hacking c Function Explanation Effect when pulsed ( ) Effect when cut ( ) Main Power This provides power to the door. A door without power won't open by itself, but it can be opened with a crowbar, if it isn't bolted. The test - ligh t is an indicator if an airlock has power or not. Power fails for a minute or so , allowing the door to be pried open Main power is cut until wire is mended , allowing the door to be pried open Backup Power It will pick up the slack if the main power fail s, coming online again after about 10 seconds. Note that both power sources depend on the APC supplying them with energy. Backup power fails for a minute or so. Note that if the primary power is online, the test light won't even blink. Backup power is cut until wire is mended. ID Scan The ID scanner checks if your ID has access to that door. If offline, the door will refuse everyone who walks against it, but will open to anyone who clicks the door. ID refusal lights blink, and the door makes a booping nois e ID scanner go es offline until wire is mended, allowing for the door to be opened by anyone via clicking on it. Door Open This wire controls the opening of the door. If the door is public, it opens immediately. If it isn't, it will only open if the ID S can is offline. Door won't open any more. Bolts This controls the door bolts. A bolted airlock will remain closed or open until it is unbolted, even if crowbarred. Note that the bolts can still fall if the door has no power, but they can't be retracted in that state! Toggles the bolts, either raising or dropping them. Bolts drop. Mending the wire does nothing. This is one of the main reasons a multitool is necessary for hacking. AI Control This wire lets silicon’s control the door. If this is disabled, cy borgs will need to interact with it like humans, and the AI will still be able to use it, albeit with a delay. The AI control light shows whether this is on or off. AI control goes offline for a few seconds. AI control goes offline until wire is mended. S afety Sensor This wire prevents the door from closing on a creature or person in the doorway.
