Working professionally since 1997, she creates richly textured portraiture that explores identity, heritage, transformation, and the cultural language of hair within the African diaspora. Her distinctive works combine acrylic, ink, textile collage, Sculptamold, and mixed-media processes to create dimensional surfaces that invite both visual and tactile engagement. Influenced by her Nigerian and Scandinavian heritage, botanical inspiration, African textile traditions, and the harmony and refinement found in Japanese aesthetics, her work explores the symbolism of hair, flowers, water and adornment while bridging personal narrative and collective memory. A graduate of Remington College (formerly Southeast College of Technology) and recipient of the Hunter Heinz Scholarship Award for Autistic Artists (2022, 2024), Ohso brings a unique neurodivergent perspective to her practice while navigating chronic osteoarthritis. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in London, and is held in private collections throughout the United States and abroad. Ohs o Fabon e - Artis t Statement "My work explores identity, memory, and transformation through dimensional mixed media portraits of Women of Color. I build each piece in layers using acrylic, ink, sculptural mediums, textile collage, and block printing because I believe people are layered. Our stories, experiences, and histories shape who we become, and I want the surface of each piece to reflect that depth. Born and raised in New Orleans and influenced by my Nigerian and Scandinavian heritage, I draw inspiration from nature, cultural traditions, and the quiet symbolism found in everyday life. Botanical forms, Japanese aesthetics, Adinkra symbols, and African and European influences often find their way into my work. These elements aren't added simply for decoration; together they create visual conversations about identity, resilience, and belonging. Hair is one of the most meaningful symbols in my work. Throughout the African diaspora, it has carried stories of culture, spirituality, beauty, resistance, and self-expression. By sculpting hair into each portrait, I honor that history while celebrating the individuality and dignity of every woman I create. As an autistic artist living with osteoarthritis, I've learned to embrace a slower, more intentional way of making. The repetition, layering, and tactile nature of my process reflect how I experience and make sense of the world. Every mark, texture, and material is chosen with care. Creating is both my language and my way of connecting - with history, with others, and with myself." - Ohso Fabone Selecte d Work s - Bodie s o f Joy All Artwork ©2026 Ohso Fabone / ArtofOhso.com Full Body, Yes! 14"x11" / Mixed Media: (Acrylic, Ink, Pastels,Fabric Paint & Ankara Wax Print Collage on Paper) $850 Joy In Rotation 11"x14" / Mixed Media: (Acrylic, Ink, Pastels, Fabric Paint & Ankara Wax Print Collage on Paper) $850 Rooted Still 11"x14" / Mixed Media: (Acrylic, Ink, Pastels, Fabric Paint & Ankara Wax Print Collage on Paper) $850 Praise In Motion 11"x14" / Mixed Media: (Acrylic, Ink, Pastels, Fabric Paint & Ankara Wax Print Collage on Paper) $850 The Weight of Joy 14"x11" / Mixed Media: (Acrylic, Ink, Pastels, Fabric Paint & Ankara Wax Print Collage on Paper) $850 Than k yo u fo r takin g th e tim e t o experienc e m y work.
