Special Edition, June 2021 India Tribal Care Trust Official Newsletter ITCT Newsletter C* Gurukul - The vedic school Inside: Gurukul construction The construction of Gurukul is now in full progress. With the Covid Relief Teachers training support of Singapore congregation devotees we started Water reservoirs building this Gurukul in December 2020 but we had to halt the In paradise work in March and April for two months as the main mode of Financials transporting the construction materials in the Chooto Jamera Donors and Supporters area is by boat and due to less water in the river we could not transport it. But as the rain started pouring in from end of April we could carry the goods and restart the work once again. We are expecting to complete the construction works in next 2-3 months. Covid Relief The second wave of Covid-19 shook India. During the first wave, we saw cases in the cities and millions of migrant workers fleeing from the cities and metros were talk of the nation. But this second wave the virus reached the Tyre III cities and villages. We saw a high mortality rate due to Covid-19. Oxygen crisis, shortage of beds were the major issues faced by many. Some cases of Covid-19 in Choto Jamera and surrounding villagers came to our notice and we got into action. Thankfully we received a big consignment of medicines from the Singapore congregation which we started distributing in the villages. This helped the poor tribal a lot as there is very limited access to primary healthcare in the tribal villages and the Govt hospitals were overcrowded with patients gasping for oxygen. page 2 copyright itct 2021 Some picturtes of medicines and dry rations distribution in tribal areas during Covid-19 second wave page 3 copyright itct 2021 Know The Bhils – The Largest Tribe In India Training of the Trainers One common problem we face in many villages is the lack of qualified teachers as qualified youths are moving towards the city for job and to enjoy the city life. In this case, the best option is to train the local teacher and increase their teaching efficiency, this is an old proven method. Keeping this in mind we started working on providing teachers training to our pathshala teachers and for Chooto Jamera we collaborated with Krishworks. Krishworks is an innovative education startup that helps students in semi-urban and rural areas to read, write and communicate in English through their model and technology by training local teachers and assisting them with their product. The session will start soon and we are expecting to see good progress in the pathshala education. page 4 copyright itct 2021 Clean Water reservoirs Though the villages in Chooto Jamera and surrounding areas are surrounded by river and there is no scarcity of water but the tribal villagers have to depend on fountain water for drinking and cooking. This is a major problem as the tribal women have to walk miles to collect water from fountains and springs. So we have built water reservoir in 8 villages in and around Chooto Jamera and now the village women don’t have to walk miles to get a bucket of water. These water reservoirs are connected with fountains and now tribal women can get the same clean water at the centre of their villages. This is saving their time spent on carrying water in the basket. This water reservoirs concept is very much appreciated by the tribal villagers and local administration. page 5 copyright itct 2021 Few days in paradise Those who love to spend their vacation in nature’s lap can come to Chooto Jamera and spend a few days. The place if full of scenic beauty and not so crowded with tourists. The journey from town to the village by boat is itself mesmerizing. If one wants to come to Chooto Jamera has to come to Hailakandi district, which is well connected by road from Guwahati, the capital of Assam. The nearest airport is Silchar airport and the railway station is Badarpur, from the airport Hailakandi boat ghat is a 3 and ½ hours journey and then you has to travel by boat for 2 hours to reach Chooto Jamera, which is the most beautiful part of the journey. The mesmerising beauty of the river, springs, tea garden and nature will amaze anyone living within the high rise concentre in the city.
