The domain name is the address of your website. Sometimes called a 'URL'. This will be what you want your site to be called. For example: www.your-website-name.com What is Web Hosting? Web hosting simply relates to where your website will live. Web hosting companies provide secure storage for the data of your site. They also ensure that the website runs smoothly. Sometimes you will have to pay for hosting as well as a domain name. However, I will show you where you can get hosting with a free domain name for a super LOW price. Okay, let's get started with... Options: FREE PAID = More Professional The first decision you need to make is whether you want to go down the completely free route or whether you are prepared to pay a small monthly expense. Although, the free option might be perfectly fine for you there are benefits to going down the paid route. Take a look at these on the next page. Benefits of Paying Your Own Domain Name You get to choose what your web address will be. Professional/Credibility - With a domain name of your choice your customers/audience see that you are professional and are to be taken seriously in the business area/niche. More Design Features Free sites only offer a limited choice of features and templates. Future Proof With your own site you can have that for life. With the free sites there's no guarantee that the service will always be provided - meaning your site could suddenly disappear! A FREE option: If you want to go down the free route then one option would be setting up a site with Google Sites. This provides you with a number of templates and a website that you can customise to your liking to a certain extent. You would need to go to www.sites.google.com to begin. However, bear in mind that you will not get a clean, professional looking website address. Instead you will get something that looks like this: https://sites.google.com/[yoursitename] The Better Option: It is always recommended that to future proof your site and the content that you go down the route of a paid for hosting solution such as: Click on the banner above and you will get a completely FREE domain name of your choice included with the super low price of hosting. Click Here To Get Started LESS THAN LESS THAN $3 A MONTH! $3 A MONTH! As you can see by now it's much better if you pay a small fee and get professional hosting and a website address of your choice. If you click the link below you can get started straight away setting up a site with a domain name you choose. I'll guide you through the process too! Once you click the link above you'll see this page showing a number of options. For now I would recommend choosing the 'BASIC' option allowing you to create one site. Choose the package you want and on the next screen you will choose your website's domain name. In 'Package Extras' there are a number of options that are automatically selected for you. Not all of these are recommended. I'd only recommend one of these options! You now need to fill in your name and contact details. Notice the drop down arrow next to the Account Plan Option. You can choose how long you want your plan to last. For best value I would recommend the option for 36 months. I WOULD advise choosing the option: "Domain Privacy + Protection" After registering your domain name your personal details are saved on a database called WHOIS. This is normally publicly available and would make your name and contact details viewable to the world. However, with the 'Domain Privacy+Protection' it keeps your details hidden. As you can see I am guiding you through the set up process step-by-step showing each page that you will see as you set up your new site. I would suggest reading this guide at the same time as you are actually doing it. This will make things as easy as possible and also you won't have to go back and read this guide again. Personally, I prefer to have this. Note: You will automatically be re-billed after the chosen time period has elapsed. I'd suggest you create a reminder in your diary a few months before so that this won't be a surprise when it happens. You'll also have time to cancel if things have changed and you no longer want the site. Once you've paid you'll then see this which will also include a receipt at the bottom of the page.
