You are invited to participate a research study which involves the use of an online platform. This study is part of a larger research being carried out by Assistant Professor Nicholas Kuipers at NUS. Overall, the study aims to understand how the method of selecting bureaucrats and public officials influences their performance. This information sheet provides you with information about th e research study. Read the information below and ask questions about anything you don’t understand before deciding whether or not to take part. 4. Who can participate in the research ? What is the expected duration of my participation? What is the duration of th is research? Indonesian adults older than 21 years old may participate in this research. As the research will be carried out online, participants must be literate and must have internet access. The research is expected to take approximately 15 minutes and the research will be carried out over a period of approximately one week, or until the number of targeted research participants have reached. 5. What is the approximate number of research participants involved? We will recruit approximately 1,250 research participants 6. What will be done if I take part in this research study ? If you agree to take part in this study, you will be taken to an online platform ( o Tree ). There, you will be asked to play a series of games with four other participants with whom you may have limited but anonymized communication. You will also be asked to answer a series of questions before and after playing the game. 7. How will my privacy and the confidentiality of my research records be protected? Only the Principal Investigator and research team will have your personal data (e.g. contact information). Your personal data will only be used by the research team for the sole purpose of reimbursing you for your participation in the study. Your personal data will never be used in a publication or presentation. Personal data will be discarded upon completion of the whole study, estimated to be March 2023. All data collected will be kept in accordance to the University’s Research Data Management Policy. What are the possible discomfort s and risks for participants ? No discomfort or risk is expected as you do not have to answer any question that you do not wish t o, and you may terminate your participation in the research at any moment. 9. What is the compensation f or any injury? No injury is expected in your participation. In the event that injury occurs during your participation, you will not be compensated for the treatment of that incur 10. W ill there be reimbursement for participation? You will be given 50,000 IDR upon completion of the research. During the course of the game, you will have the opportunity to earn up to 25 0,000 IDR, which may be split with the five participants of the research. 11. What are the possible benefits to me and to others? There is no direct benefit to you by participating in this research study . T he knowledge gained may benefit the public in the future in improving the design of policies for selecting civil servants. 12. Can I refuse to participate in this research ? Yes, you can. Your decision to participate in this research study is voluntary and completely up to you. You can also withdraw from the research at any time without giving any reasons, by informing the principal investigator and all your data collected will be discarded. 13.
