Our rich history dates back to 1866 where we were founded as E. Lamy & Sons located on Main Street right here in Sedalia. The building we are in today was constructed in 1893 for the Mackey Shoe Company. Shortly after its completion in 1896, E. Lamy's son J.A. Lamy moved the family business to 108 W. Pacific Street. Lamy's, as it was known, was an apparel manufacturer making its own brands that included Ox Horn and Rainbow shop coats and overalls. During this period, the building was powered by steam. A rail spur ran into the location that our beautiful bathrooms are located in today. They would unload coal that would generate heat to produce steam. You can see the door to the boiler located in the dining room today. The 1940's brought a period of change. In response to World War II, Lamy's dropped its own apparel lines to produce fatigues to support the war effort. Shortly after the war in 1948, on a hand- shake agreement with Levi Strauss & Company, Lamy's would begin exclusively producing their blue jeans for the next 50 years. At its peak, Lamy's employed as many as 450 employees capable of producing 12,000 pairs of blue jeans every day. When most apparel manufacturing moved offshore in the late 1990's, Lamy's was forced to discontinue its apparel manufactur- ing operation. The building sat largely vacant for the next 20 years until the beginning of its rebirth in 2018, when construction began to create the space we are in today. The 50,000 square foot building now houses 9 luxury loft apartments, over 16,000 square feet of office space, Kempf’s Custom Butchering, Josey Records, and the No. 5 Bistro & Bar. Now in its fifth generation of family management, we all agree that Lamy's is living its best life yet. To all of those seeing it for the first time, welcome. To those that have fond memories of working here to make Levi's, welcome back. History Loves Company
