Though you were born in the sleepy Corvian town of Rolokos, you spent most of your days trudging alongside your parents’ sturdy caravan of 3 carts as it made its way back and forth between your home and the two great cities of the island, Serakis and Mindaeistos, trading initially the goods of farmers and weavers but more recently luxury goods bought from artisans in the great cities. This newfound financial independence has brought a good deal more prestige to your parents allowing them to procure you a formal education at the hands of Minchos the white, the brother of Father Portinon and learned man of the village. Your father’s intentions are for you to learn the arts of reading, writing, arithmetic and rhetoric so that one day you can take the reigns of the trading business and elevate yourself to a higher, perhaps even noble standing. Your father has a business rival of sorts, a former woodsman named Vrochi the woodsman who came into the freighting business by marrying the daughter of the regions prominent wheelwright. Vrochi and your father’s conflict was was averted when Father Portinon decreed that Vrochi shall have Serakis and your father shall have Mindaestos’ trade. The traders are currently on quite good terms but this might be challenged with the growth of trade opportunities with Westish town to the south and Vrochi’s son Tonitrus’s popularity with the priesthood. Minchos is dull but encouraging, your progress is good and you are certain to be able to read within the year, he tells you of his ambition to study the inscriptions on one of the black monuments like the one at the heart of the Batca swamp. There are rumours of a smaller black monument uncovered in secret by Vrochi the woodsman and his brother. You have 4 close friends 3 of them are in Rolokos - Brother Poros is the son and student of Portinon, he often joins lessons with you learning arithmetic and rhetoric. The rest of his time is spent praying and learning the teachings of Anciolon in preparation to be a cleric. Often times he sneaks off to hang out with you and Tormenon after lessons. He yearns for adventure and would like to prove himself by hunting and killing on of the giant ravens that give the Ravenwood its name. - Tormenon is an ex student and friend of Minchos, 2 years your elder he sees it as his duty to teach you the best ways to enjoy oneself in the village. He is often taken aback when you mention the conventions of the big cities. Less adventurous than Poros his main preoccupation is bedding women and tasting new delicacies, avoiding marriage for as long as possible. Though hears the water gnomes of Batca lake have magic that can make a man taller, now that he wouldn’t mind. - Ecula is the daughter of a wealthy hunter in the village by the name of Vrochi. She either learns rhetoric off of you (if you choose to) or Tormenon (if you don’t). She has unbound ambition and dreams of wealth and power. She dreams of exploring the caves that surround the Batca swamp seeing as her cousin Atril wears golden earrings found in a hoard belonging to some troglodyte in the cliffs. - Staphros is a trader in Mindaeistos, you made friends as young children when your parents did business. His parents have since died from a werebear attack on the family villa. He is sureto give you a job if you ask.
