Toshusai struggled to lift him up for his trademark suplexes and ate a number of crunching kicks. During the tour, Maeda fought Konda in four multi - man tag matches, coming out on top three times. He carried the momentum, but Konda brought experience. At just 23 years old, Maeda was enjoying life at the top of the card for the first time, whereas Konda had years of elite competition under his belt. Maeda took control of the early stages, barely missing the Maeda Lariat after five minutes – if he had connected, the match surely would have ended right there. Konda worked his way to an advantageous position with speedy transitions between holds, leaving Maeda on the back foot. Konda’s speed and disorienting wrestling kept Maeda on the mat until he fired up. The crowd enjoyed watching Maeda build his way back into the match. He roared in Konda’s face, and swang with the Maeda Lariat... Which missed. Konda ducked underneath, tripped Maeda, drove his knee into the back of Maeda’s head and climbed to the top turnbuckle.
