Shreeram Prasad Neopane: CURRICULUM VITAE Currently Dr. Shreeram P Neopane is an Animal Breeding Expert (national individual consultant) for Nepal Livestock Sector Innovation Project (NLSIP), a joint initiatives of ministry of agriculture and livestock development (MOALD) and the World Bank, where he is specifically involved with establishing and strengthening the performance recording system in cattle and buffalo in the country. He is a professor for Himalayan College of Agriculture Sciences & Technology (HICAST), a private college affiliated with Purwanchal University, Nepal, where he teaches Animal Breeding and Genetics, Animal Biodiversity Management and other animal science related courses to undergraduates and post graduates students. He is an Adjunct Professor at AFU, Nepal. He is the president of Nepal Animal Science Association (NASA). He was the director of research (DOR) for HICAST and was involved with livestock and climate change project (as a principle investigator: PI) for ADB funded project for Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST). He was the technical livestock component manager for improved farmers seed programme (ISFP), a joint initiatives of ministry of agriculture development (MOAD), Nepal and international fund for agriculture development (IFAD), a 7 years programme for producing quality seed production in cereals and vegetables and enhancing milk (cattle and buffalo) and meat productivity (goat) and making them commercial. He has taken several guest speech courses at the Institutes of Agriculture & Animal Sciences (IAAS), Tribhuwan University, Nepal and supervised M.Sc. and Ph.D. students for Animal Sciences as an advisory board members. He was the Executive Director at the Local Initiatives for Biodiversity Research and Development (LI-BIRD), a national non-governmental organization based in Pokhara, Nepal, which is reputed for agro-biodiversity research and development work aiming to enhance the livelihood of people through conservation and use of agro-biodiversity. While at LI-BIRD, he was associated with livestock, climate change and livelihoods programme with the capacity of Co-Principal Investigator for USAID funded project. He was Senior Scientist & Head of Animal Breeding Division, Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC), a national apex research organization dedicated to enhance the contribution to enhancing food security and livelihood of the country fellow through research in the field of agriculture and natural resources management. He was the national professional for animal genetic resource (AnGR) in the country and with this role he contributed to the development of country report on the state of world animal genetic resources and submitted to FAO in 2003. While at NARC, he led the team that contributed to the identification and recommendation of several livestock species, breeds and technologies that are suitable for enhancing food security and livelihood. He has coordinated as the national project coordinator (NPC) for FAO project in Nepal in dairy cattle improvement project aiming to improve the productivity of dairy animals. He has contributed for the development of national plan of action (NAPA) for climate change through one of five thematic programme; Agriculture and food security. His organization has been a part of both NAPA and local plan of action (LAPA). He was a senior livestock officer at Pakhribas Agriculture Centre (PAC), Nepal funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), UK, where he developed several important technologies suitable for the hills of Nepal. Few examples are selective breeding for Khari goat (indigenous hill goats), Introduction and evaluation of Giriraja chicken in Nepal, and Introduction and evaluation of Angora rabbits for wool production in the hills of Nepal. He has more than 120 publications in his credit.
