Welfar e will include, rest shelter, smoking shelter, drinking water station, assembly point, first aid station, Fire fighting station. 3. Excavation 3.1 Excavation/Cut Before work commence, a Permit to Dig will be issued by Contractor’s Site Engineer for the area in q uestion. It is envisaged that each proposed temporary road will be subdivided into a number of work zones defined by sequence. Work will not begin in given zone until a Permit to Dig is issued by the ABYATONA Site Engineer and approved with PMC Engineer. For excavating high grade and approved cutting areas, cut area will be undertaken by Motor Bulldozer ripping the material for several passes and then pushing the material into stockpiles outside of the limit of works so that it can be sampled, tested and p assed by the third party laboratory prior to incorporation into the permanent work. Each stockpile will be allocated a colored flag dependent upon the status of the material. A red flag denotes that the material should not be incorporated into the works as sampling has not taken place. Upon sampling of the material by the third party the red flag will be replaced with a yellow/amber flag. Once acceptable suitability test results have been received a green flag will be placed in/by the stockpile and the mat erial can be used in the permanent works. 3.2 Control of Stockpile Areas Material stockpiles areas will have the Vehicles control by the Flag man by Guidance of the safety officer. Stockpile areas will be demarcated by soft barricades and the ground therein w ill be proof rolled to ensure the surface is level and firm so that it is suitable for the envisaged truck traffic loads. Whenever the third party laboratory or the surveyors are required to enter the stockpile area to obtain samples, an WIR will be raised as per the Earthworks ITP. The Site Engineer will ensure that at the scheduled sampling time all machines are stopped and the engines switched off whilst the technicians are in the stockpile area. The vehicle in which the technicians are travell ing will not be permitted to enter the stockpile area. It will remain outside and the samples carried back to it. Samples will not exceed 25 kg and will be easily carried by laboratory technicians. 3.3 Loading and Hauling The loading of the material from appr oved stockpiles will be undertaken using wheeled loaders and excavators. Each truck will receive a predetermined amount of material thus ensuring the hazard of overloading is avoided. This will assist with quantity tracking also. Each truck will be identi fiable by a unique number painted on the side of the vehicle. Hauling of fill material will take place along the alignment of the works meaning that plant will not share the site access routes which will be utilized by light vehicles only. In the event of plant having to use the site access road then an escort will be provided. 3.4 Tipping Tipping of approved fill material from the trucks will take place in designated fill areas only and will be undertaken in a safe and controlled manner. When tipping, trucks will maintain a safe distance from each other so that in the event of an overturning there will be no collision. Upon completing tipping the driver will ensure that the tipper body has retracted fully before moving forward. unloaded material will then be spread by Bulldozer up to the required level as dictate by the existing level control pegs. The spotters will be located in a place of safety located sufficiently far from the moving vehicles. The spotter should stand approximately 8 - 10 feet away from the vehicle. Never walk behind the equipment and spot at the same time. Agree on hand signals prior to any spotting activities with equipment operators. As the operator, stop anytime you lose sight of the spotter. Review the work area for any additional hazar ds such as trip hazards or fixed objects that the equipment can strike 3.5 Filling General Filling low - level areas shall be to the level of sub grade as designated. After completion of clearing and grubbing, the Contractor shall carry out the necessary leveli ng in order to control the thickness of the layers of fill. The existing natural ground shall be scarified in place to a minimum depth of 75mm for the full width of the embankment. The scarified material shall be leveled and compacted to a minimum of 95% maximum dry density. Where an existing embankment is being widened, the existing embankment slope shall be trimmed and compacted into benches of minimum width 1m and depth 500mm before placing and compacting each layer of new embankment material unless ot herwise directed by the Engineer to suit particular circumstances. The Contractor shall not proceed with filling and compaction any subsequent layer before testing and securing the approval of the Engineer for the previous layer. Each fill thickness shall not exceed 250mm and will be agreed with site engineers. 3.6 Compaction The filled material from the stockpile properly mixed with water will be spread in continuous horizontal layers of thickness according to Method of Compaction that given in the earthwork s ITP. Spreading will be done by Dozer and the material will be graded and rolled to the requirements given in the Earthworks ITP. Method of compaction will be Dynamic and Rapid Impact Compaction as described in separate MS for method of MS serial no. 03-150000-4800001134 -BYT-CIV - MST-000002 03-150000-4800001134-BYT-CIV-MST-000002 Rev 05 8 Rev. 05 4800001134 08-01-2025 NEOM-NLF-FRM-002.02 Method Statement Form Sheet no. 6 of 14 Project name: WO-1134 Construction and Extension of Box Culverts Under HW55 Neom project no. Testing at this stage will involve field density tests, CBR testing and collation of as- built levels as the fill/cut progress and will be undertaken at the frequency of and to the specifications mentioned in the Earthworks ITP. The layer depths: 1.) Depth 300 mm. – Roller Compactor with FDT 2.) Depth 4.0 m, max – Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC) (Separate RAMS submitted) 3.) Depth 8.0 m, max - Dynamic Impact Compaction (Separate RAMS submitted) Principle of Dynamic Compaction (DC) Dynamic Compaction is applicable to both saturated and unsaturated soils. The basic principle of this technique is the transmission of high energy impacts to lose, soft granular and dry clayey soils, which initially have low bearing capacity and high compressibility or collapsibility potentials in order to significantly improve their characteristics with depth. This impact energy is delivered by dropping a heavy weight from a significant height; general process of Dynamic Compaction is presented in Figure 1 Figure 1: The Process of Dynamic Compaction Dynamic Compaction is typically conducted in several phases: The first phase aims to improve the deeper-seated layers while the final phase improves the upper layer in a grid pattern predetermined by a calibration area at site. Figure 3: Phases of Dynamic Compaction Effect: x Decrease of the void ratio, by compressing the material both vertically and laterally. x Grou nd surface settlement as a result of densification of the improved layer. x Increased mechanical parameters of the improved layer. Principle of Rapid Impact Compaction The principle of Rapid Impact Compaction is mostly similar to Dynamic Compaction, whe re by transmission of high energy impacts to loose, soft granular and dry clayey soils, which initially have low bearing capacity and high compressibility or collapsibility potentials in order to significantly improve their characteristics with depth. This impact energy is delivered by dropping a 9 - ton Hammer from a height of 0.8m to 1.1m; Rapid Impact Compaction Rig is presented in Figure 4. Figure 4 Fast mobilization and maneuverability of the excavator allow for faster completion times and adaptation to most site terrains. Import of fill material and placing can follow relatively close to the compaction work. However, the RIC works is only limited to an Effective depth of 4m Rapid Impact Compaction is typically conducted in several phases: The first phase aims to improve the deeper - seated layers while the final phase improves the upper layer in a grid pattern predetermined by a calibration area at site.
