Smoking Policy P&C 006 People & Culture Policies Onboard Smoking Policy Virgin Voyages is committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of our Crew, as well as fostering a comfortable and healthy work environment. DEFINITION Smoking is defined as the “act of lighting, smoking or carrying a lighted or smoldering cigar, cigarette, electronic cigarette, vape, or pipe of any kind.” POLICY All Crew are responsible for ensuring that they follow the Company’s safety rules and regulations at all times, and the Company is responsible for providing a safe and healthy environment in which our Crew can work and live. As a general rule, all areas of the ship are designated as non-smoking areas unless otherwise specified. In the absence of a designated smoking area sign, that area shall be considered as non-smoking. PROCEDURE All smoking materials should be properly extinguished and left in an ashtray for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes prior to being placed in a designated fire-retardant garbage bin/container. The designated fire-retardant garbage container used for collection of ashtrays content shall be brought to the incinerator for proper disposal without mixing it with any other regular waste. All Crew should be fully aware that paper or any other combustible material shall never be placed in ashtrays and must never be discarded on any decks, non-fire-retardant bins, nor thrown overboard. Smoking in areas other than “Designated Crew Smoking Areas” will be considered gross misconduct and will result in corrective action - from a written warning up to immediate dismissal. In addition to disciplinary action, smoking in a Crew cabin shall result in the Crew member being assessed a $100 cleaning fee for the cabin. At Virgin Voyages, we believe that the spirit of thoughtfulness and cooperation is adequate to resolve any disputes which might arise under this policy. Where disputes cannot be resolved, the rights of the nonsmoker shall be given precedence, as required by this policy. Resolving complaints about smoking: ● Any complaints about the application of this policy to the workplace should be brought to the attention of the Captain, or a member of People & Culture. ● The complaint should be submitted in writing and identify specific objections. Virgin Voyages will investigate the complaint and resolve it in accordance with the policy. ● No Crew shall suffer any form of retaliation for raising a complaint or asking a question about this policy.
