ISBN: 978-1-67801-816-0 Tunnels By Vic Otazo Prologue It all started with the advent of the Age of Aquarius in the year of the 21st century. With the Age of Aquarius came robots for combat, drones, and flying aircrafts made by ordinary citizens, microchips embedded in people's foreskins, and all kinds of technology that made me think they had it easier back then. They said that people lived in abodes and went to service for a job they did not love and yet came back to their dwellings however great or small, and used this small thing that left messages for people on other ends of the earth. And all you had to do was push a button on it? I wonder what it was. They said as time went on the war started by the ISIS bandits broke nations apart until the lands became tilled once more. They said we were part of an experiment by the government. They said now we are going to be sent to Mars if we can't escape. And we are only a testing ground to escape this underground world of tunnels. I call it the wrath of the Christian god. Others say it’s true. I say it’s because the American government was Christian and their god did tricks to people behind their backs. For one, it’s possibly the year 3012, and I was born into an experiment. Chapter 1 "I'm wondering what Prescot will make us do tomorrow? Honestly sick of walking around this crazy tunnel complex? I mean don't you ever wonder why we are here?" George said as he reclined in his make shaft co-ed room. "I don't know but this is one hec' of a dangerous place to grow up in." Will remarked as he didn't understand why he was brought up this way either. "All they do is give us orders and we have to do it or else. I mean I heard Tiffany, Prescot’s personal assistant, say there was a different world before civilization became ruined. I just hope we're not guinea pigs is all." George questioned everything yet obeyed tenaciously. It was contradiction about him. "Look we got to see. I can't stay up talking to you all night in your bed laying there while I gotta get to work for the man. Get some sleep will ya?" Will was peeved at George. **** General Prescot came pensively and swiftly through the metal barricaded entrance of his secret room inside his cell. Prescot's cell penned "The Ice Shaft" felt just like it. Its cold breeze forced him to wear his worn out black coat with his favorite black Captain hat. The General made sure his network in the underground tunnel complex would do as he said for the outcome of the whole. And that was to make it out of there before seized by the aftermath government operating on Mars. And through his techniques in sorcery and former PSI intelligence he garnered from military booklets, etc. and he just knew that was the goal. His "Ice Shaft" enclosed shaft boasted books of all kinds of studies. Ranging from the arts, to the hard sciences, to the pseudo-sciences, and the how to books. These books belonged to the people who lived before them yet were carried over after the war by way of loot and thievery. It seemed he couldn't get away with such things, but Sir General Prescot's cunning tactics gave him followers, blind followers. The kind that need help in exchange for service. And that was how he did it. "Tiffany, please call my boy Walter from cell five and tell him I need him to go and bring me a telephone. It does not have to be in excellent condition but it needs to work. I will make sure this telephone will be a prototype to eventually connect us to other cells in my network." "Yes Sir Prescot." Tiffany his only confidante and loyal secretary took orders from him like a door mat. Never once did she complain, wince, or not make him the coffee as he wanted it. But she did speak behind his back in a vague manner if asked a question by the boys. Yet she never gave a fact that didn't need to be given unless commanded by the General. Walter walked through the hall-like tunnels. Lonely as they seemed. He longed for a soul mate and never understood why he was born into this ugly world. He longed for beauty but couldn't attain it. It was dirty and metallic down there. Brown and regimented. Walter, standing at 5 foot 6 wasn't exactly the tallest man but he was the "solider" with the bravest heart. That's why he was disposable to Prescot. Prescot knew the one with the most heart could always make a way. Even if it could cost him his life. Chapter 2 Tiffany walked out the barricaded "Ice Shalt" door and into a wooden and cemented hallway. You could not tell your way out but only had to have known which way you were there by way of mouth. And there is only one way in and one way out. Tiffany made her way into the "boys" room, its 84 ft by 50 ft wasn't the most comfortable place for about 10 guys crammed into a place but it gave them a sense of belonging. Tiffany entered in wearing a sweatpants and a loose sweater along with a case of water which she dropped for them in the corner of the room. "Hello boys, its me again, make sure your bed is nice and ready and you are ready for service if need be. Prescott is asking that you do your usual routine, which is 150 sit ups on rotations of two, 25 push ups and switch up to one arm, and your aerobic routine which consists of jogging in one spot and your jumping jacks. If you need water you can grab a bottle over here in the corner." Tiffany nurtured the poor guys that didn't have anywhere else to go. "Ok Walter I'll be needing you today on an errand." Tiffany motioned to Walter as he was changing into his athletic wear. "Yes Tiffany, I thought you wanted to take me someplace private, is that what you want?" Walter's coy smile and come-on seemed extremely stupid to Tiffany but she knew he didn't know any better. Maybe I might ask you to be with me if you weren't such an idiot in front of the guys. Tiffany thought to herself. "Okay Walter not now. Come with me, Prescott wants you for a run." "Gawd not again!" Walter complained for he seemed to be picked the most. "I was wondering what we'd do today but I wasn't picked again. So shut your whining, I'm bored." Chance felt slighted as though he wasn't cut enough to be picked for missions. "Yeah and don't complain, you ain't got no other place to be and he is feeding you down here, get to work man!" George interjected. "At least you doin' something." George tapped him in the arm. "Whatever man, I'm just bait." Walter left the room with Tiffany and they proceeded back to Prescott. **** Another day another experiment. All is well on Mars but all is dangerous and dismal on earth. Earth is not much but dearth after the wars that broke out in the year 3000. The war at this point turned to the all too catastrophic war that ruined earth just as much as you could expect a meteorite impact. The common people who went underground ended up becoming cannibals or committed suicide because life could harbor anything without help from the sun. The water parched and life just gave no more. The government did go underground. This government known as the Pacific and Atlantic Union of the Americas knew about this impending war through various historical prophecies and prepared for it. The PAUA did not know for certain whether other governments followed their lead since connection between them halted at an instant drop of an atomic bomb of supreme proportions over the earth by an egomaniacal dictator in the middle east. The government knew it had to get out of the earth. One way was through their spaceships they put under the earth in a secret cover operation. And take experimented humans from the tunneled cells under the earth. The government knew of Prescott's tunnel network. And although they believed Prescott had good intentions to attain freedom. That didn't matter to them. PAUA sought his resources and his men to test life on Mars. They figured he did half the work. Now if they could only exert force at the right calculating move. Chapter 3 "Will I don't know man, I don't trust my life underground. We are living a bad lot. I kind of trust Prescot cause he's all we got, but what if someone overpowers us , then what we gonna do?" George felt weary over his soldier life without much answers. "I know what you mean. I feel sorry for us actually. We don't have wives, we don't have a home. Our past generations screwed it up for us man! Now we gotta deal with taking orders by Prescot." Will empathized with George and felt somewhat defeated in taking orders all his life. "Its like, what happened to my parents? You know, I bet they abducted us and we can't say nuthin." George knows his life isn't typically normal like it used to be for the Americans before PAUA took over. "Yeah man, just makes my stomach churn. I wish we could escape. But then how we gonna feed ourselves? I wonder what life is like above us. All we know is by what they tell us. What if its paradise up there and we're living in hell?" Will seemed to be cynical about Prescot's motivations but he still wanted to do something to ease his boredom. "Yeah, well I just feel like a guinea pig in a cage today. I can't believe Walter was chosen for the third time?! I just wanna get my legs working. Tired of playing card games after working out all day with you man, you my homie, I know but shoot I need to work too." George's honesty was appreciated by Will. "I feel ya bro." Will understood. **** "Right over here Walter you know," Tiffany motioned for the "Ice Shaft." "Sure do Tiffany." Walter stated. Prescot coiled his chair to the right fitting and turned around behind his desk. "Okay Walter you're going to make an easy run this time for us." "Yes sir and what would that be?" Walter felt uneasy but ready as always. "Well we have to get a telephone from a certain cell in this underground world you understand? See I will give you the right information you need in order to obtain it. The goal is that I make more prototypes of this telephone from the 21st century which is easier to rebuild and create a communication network with it underground. "Yes I understand." He really didn't understand, he just did as he was told. "I don't think you understand. Let me tell you. The PAUA has got a system they've had for years. They can outdo us at any given moment. If we create a vast network of rebellious cells they won't be able to target us as efficiently and take us as hostages. Now follow this map, Tiffany was instructed by me over the details of how to find one in another cell. And if you think you are going empty handed think again. You'll need this book: Advanced Astronomy Handbook. Take your wits, and take this as well, a stun gun in case you need it when encountering thieves. And don't forget come back with the telephone. Its a point I can't stress enough. Ok Tiffany show him the specifics on the writings. Thank you." Prescot had to explain it the way it made sense to him because he felt if they knew the importance of it, they'd be better off completing the mission. "Okay, let us take a look at it Walter." Tiffany said. "Sure!" Walter hadn't a though to worry about but understood he was just a body of work. "Okay, so this map details the exit route out of our cell. And how to get to this certain spot figured by the mark X. At X you are to ask for a "guard of the telephone." And if they ask tell them that Prescot sent for you and you have something they want. He'll most likely then take you into an area of interest where you can barter for the phone. Give them the book and if they ask about it, give them this note by Prescot, it has a note for the keeper of the book. That way they will give you the phone. You're probably wondering what he is sending you on this trip to guide you, well its a compass again. And the compass will direct you to southeast. If you ask anyone where "Target 5" is located they'll know and they ask for anything, you know the drill. Just wing it and trick em into giving you the info. And if you have to give anything in exchange, here's a few items; a clock, a watch, and a walkman. For some reason, people still listen to music after the apocalypse of the war by ISIS, makes no sense. Got everything?" "Yes I did but can I have you?" Walter remarked jokingly. "No Walter, nice try." Tiffany felt amused but shut that comment down quick. "Okay, but what bag?" Walter said. "Here you go, its all packed up and don't lose this map nor note. Remember stay away from any government official. You'll know by their cleanliness, fatness, and color of coats." Tiffany remarked. "I know, I know." And just like that Walter left the "Ice Shaft" for work. Chapter 4 In the year of 2070 ISIS networks encompassed almost every nation of the earth. Not only was this terrorist militia a threat to any nation it operated in, it gave rise to nuclear blasts which created a thick cloud over any nation it could its grip on. Slowly over the years the West could not contain their control and this led to a nuclear war in which one country's strike over the USA led the world into chaos. Countries that depended on the United States of America for currency and trade were left to trade with selfish communists and hunger parched the people of third world nations. The remaining military complex that was left underground in case of disaster became the Pacific and Atlantic Union. Various cells underground in tunnels tried to calculate ways of surviving the human species and colonizing on Mars. Their hope: to cultivate humans on an experiment to Mars. The blast hit the earth like none before it. It left the earth in a fog and haze, Americans died in less than an hour. The remaining inhabitants on earth eventually died of disease, violence or hunger. Their only seeming hope: the tunnels underground. **** With his protective stun gun, the Astronomy trade book, and his map Walter felt determined to make it to the cell of where the needed watch would be. He thought about Tiffany. Walter seemed to be a block head. Just caring for things he shouldn't care about especially when danger is around the corner. As he made his way, he noticed a dead rat. The rat's length startled Walter. Damn! That thing is huge! Walter almost panicked by its vermon but quickly moved on. As Walter made his way through a dark and dank tunnel with a diameter of 28 inches he had to almost bend in some tunnels. These tunnels were the left over tunnels from a war in the early 21st century. At least that's what Will told him, his fellow "soldier." Fuck! This grime is seriously giving me the creeps. Just another ... looks like 3 miles. Walter lit his papers underground with a lighter that Prescot managed to refill with charcoal liquid he received on a trade. I should get in Tiffany's boots before I die in one of these stupid runs. Walter didn't seem to take too much interest in the line of work he was born into. Well Tiffany's all we got. I'm surprised Prescot hasn't impregnated her or anything. Oh geez that's a horrible thing to say for the poor lady. Seriously why the fuck didn't I get born someplace else. What is god anyway? Ah who cares. At least I'm not in a shittier place. Walter walked fast past the garbage and gnats talking to himself to keep himself entertained and alive. Chapter 5 Prescott made a visit to the quarters of the soldiers. He knew that the only way to keep his boys in line is to train them on a routine basis. And as far as Tiffany was concerned, keep her busy and happy with her requests. She has no choice, she is surrounded by men. "Okay boys, I am going to assign Will and George on an exercise run. Tiffany told me you two were acting strange and restless." Prescott exclaimed. "Yes sir" They both said the same thing at the right time. "Very well, I want you two to take an unexpected run to find any other networks that I am unaware of. Tell them I have a collection of how to books for survival to get us off this underground grid and possibly re-establish ourselves outside of here on poor mother earth. And tell them I have rare collectibles. And let me know what they have in return." Prescott made his point clear. "Yes sir! We will hunt for any other networks as you say and do as told. If we find a network, we will notify you in due time." George is the more obedient one, but surprising at times. "And I will work with George sir Prescott." Will didn't want to but had to. "Oh and take these they will guard your life." Prescott gave them each a flashlight and a bag of weapons which includes two grenades, a hammer, a small bat, a pocket knife, and a pistol. **** "Sir I have to say this is an impressive collection of books. I don't know how you have the time to sit and read through all this, calculate your next plans, and train those poor soldiers." Tiffany's souther drawl had a calming effect on Prescott. "I like to think I need them for survival. What else , Tiffany?" Prescott always felt Tiffany is a little too nice for the job but he was all he could find to keep the men fixated and nurtured somehow. She stood about 5'6, wore the same outfits of pant suits, and blouses and always had a smile on her face in this rough place. She strengthen the people there in a subliminal way. "Well I thought you know, you could use help in learning the material?" Tiffany adapted to his behavior and reactions. That was how she presented herself. A survivalist of all means too. Tiffany came from a place of the government unbenounced to anyone there. Prescott figured she might be a Pacific and Atlantic Union's dreg of an overlord's daughter. But he wasn't sure. She just appeared as a teen having nowhere to go underground. So he took her in, raised her, and she treated him as a father figure slash mentor. And that is how her relationship with Prescott entailed. The other men knew she was in it for survival as well but they didn't really know where she came from. "Well if you wanted to finally learn something, why don't you read this book here? Prescott rolled in his chair and took off the book "How to detect lies without a polygraph" "Hmm .. that's interesting. How could that serve us here?" Tiffany felt intrigued. "Well simple, if we capture an attacker and I do not know whether he is telling the truth you can be confirmation or second guess. Plain and simple." Prescott thought he knew everything. "Okay I'll be reading it from now on." Tiffany took the book and went to her own room. It had nothing but a bed bunker, a refrigerator, papers she wrote for Prescott, maps to figure out the location of the other places around the cells, ink from his Ice Shaft, clothing containers, and her devotional bible. Although Prescott wasn't keen on her having that in her cell, he knew it gave her comfort and strength to carry on. So he didn't mind. And it did comfort her. She prayed to an unknown God to carry on. And wondered why Jesus didn't come back? Sometimes she thought it was the end of days. The very last end of days. Chapter 6 God how am I going to find this lady with this stinking map, the map is getting humid in here! Fuck! okay go left, ah there's what he mentioned - some mine cargo cart left over, ok now right... What Walter failed at directions he made up for in grit. It still wasn't time to get to the rebellious connection that had the telephone. **** I am so fucking peeved at this fucking receiver , its giving no signal. I await Walter's return with the telephone so I can apply my hand at making prototypes. I should have told the damn boy to pick up scraps along the way. Shit! He's about as dumb as my next soldier. We need to survive out of this hell hole in order to escape Mars. That is not a hospitable place for anyone. Dirt , dirt, and more red dirt. Heat and heat and more heat. I'd fight till death. "Hi sir one of your soldiers would like to speak with you?" Tiffany mentioned. "Bring him in, who is it?" Prescot questioned. "Its actually Will sir." Tiffany replied. "Okay bring him in." Prescot expected a complaint. "Hello sir thank you for having me here. I have come for a request." Will felt uneasy but needed to breathe out of it from his chest. "Okay Will what is your request?" Prescot sensed something in the air of discontent. "I request that you let me and George look for land outside of the tunnel so we can report back to you what our finding is and we can move forward from here sir." Will manned up as tough as he could as a poker faced soldier. "Will if I let you do that how do I know you will abandon us?" Prescot wasn't an idiot but he did want to experiment as that was on his mind for some time anyhow. "You can expect as certain times to be back or give a way of our word through a receiver." Will thought if he can convince Prescot of his constant contact that Prescot will have a certain power over them. "Maybe. But that won't happen until I have a receiver that works. For now you will have to wait until Walter returns. He has a working receiver that he will bring, its a telephone but I can turn it into a two way signal." Prescot's answer left Will with a stubborn will to get out of this place. **** Ah I found it! Okay shit this place is so bare there is nothing here. How does she even have a telephone? Hmmm I wonder what she knows. I think she wants that astrology book because she wants to get the fuck out of here and not bother with gadgets and crap! "Hello?! Anyone there?! I've come from Prescot a rebellious cell I am his soldier, can anyone here me? I am here for a trade we are in it to escape like you guys." Walter attempted a friendly impression. "Yes come in. My boys are out of my cell they are looking for a way to a living soluble edifying place to live. What have you brought for me? My name is Anoushka nice to meet you. Now what is that book bring it closer so I can give you an exchange. Prescot used to work in the military and heard that I was living in a rebellious network as well. HE found some muscles very well. I cannot see very well what is it?" "Its a book about Astronomy it delves into the basics of Astronomy so you may find your way outside of this place with the help of your soldiers. Do you have anyone here? How can you do this yourself?" Walter seemed worried for this poor woman. "Don't worry for me boy. They'll come back they have to be fed." Anoushka knew her place. "Now I see you have the book give it to me." "Okay but Prescot requests that you give him a telephone." Walter didn't wince on words. "No need to be firm, here here come here. The phone is here." Anoushka opened the cabinet door and handed him a phone that belonged to the 21st century. It had the electronics embedded that Prescot could make use of so he took it and put it in his bag. "Very well I must be on my way." Walter felt the need to hurry. "Fine but be wary of something." Anoushka added. "Yes what is it?" Walter replied. "Its the Pacific and Atlantic Union soldiers... They might have taken a few of my men but I won't let them take Prescot's. Prescot put you in dangerous territory. Be ware, hurry on." Anoushka shut the door and hid her whereabouts with moss on the entrance. Walter ran as fast as he could back with the phone and his map. Chapter 7 "Come in, we have found a straggler. What would you like us to do with her Private?" The soldier of the Pacific and Atlantic Union surviving militia requested a command as protocol. "Bring her to the experiment unit where we will conduct tests on her capability of handling life on Mars. Afterwards we will take it from there she will be sent to command Takeoff." Private Mark said with a clear monotone voice to convince others he is in control. "Fuck could you bugger off my arm, you grabbing it too tightly!" Sandra said as her bruise began to form. "Listen you little b$#&* you're going to stay quiet until told to." The soldier was merciless. "Asshole where do you think your taking me, I have a place to be..." As soon as she said these words she fought off the guard but his force was too strong and he injected her with sleep medicine. Two minutes later Sandra a lost straggler underground dowsed to sleep. **** "Ok I gotta go left here... Then right. Goddammit I am almost forgetting how I came here. I am getting worried. Okay don't be a wuss. Just turn the damn light on and figure it out." Walter panicked over the darkness. screech "What was that?" Walter examined his surroundings. "Oh nothing." Walter made a quick right to the right direction by a slim chance as he could have missed the landmark but didn't thanks to remembering that Tiffany said the main right taken back to their headquarters was next to an abandoned coal mine shut off enclosure. "Phew!" Walter made his way in calm. "Did you hear that?" A soldier of the Pacific and Atlantic Union militia said. "No I didn't hear nothing." Another solider said. "Nevermind. Probably just a rat." The soldiers went in another directions lucky for Walter. Walter returned to the headquarters with a bag full of weapons given to him and tricks of the trade as well as a phonogram which was to be used by the Sir Prescott. "Good job Walter. I'm surprised you made it back." Prescott said in a reassuring manner. "Me too. Heard some odd noises and almost lost my way but yeah I need to rest. When are we going to eat?" Walter said in an exhausted tone. "I'll get Tiffany to bring you canned goods." Prescott replied. "Ok thank you sir." Walter went back to his bunker bed. Chapter 8 As Will and George took up a backpack of weapons and gadgets for protection they conversed over their life as they knew it. "I am sick of this shit! I don't want to do these runs no more. Honestly I am just a sucker I should just kill myself." George was fed up with kissing his superior's ass for freedom. "Shut up George you need to stay sane to survive out of these tunnels. Once we out we have our freedom so focus on that okay man, stay brave." Will had to keep it together for them both. "I need a mantra or something." George felt himself calming down. "Just say somethin like 'I got this'" And Will told him what he needed to hear once again. "Yo what the hell is this?!" George said. "I don't know what is that?" Will and George pointed out the vine protecting a doorway the size of 9 by 9. "I don't know open it." Said George. "Oh shit this is weird. I see boxes. What the fuck, lets open them." Will opened his back for a pocket knife. "I don't know man hurry before the PAUA catches us lingering by an open corner where they can see us where these damn tunnels converge." George exclaimed. "Ok there looks to be a bunch of grenades and military utility." Will felt exhilarated they found a treasure for Prescott. "Damn this crazy." Will said "What its just military gadgets you are stupid." George wanted to leave he felt he could get caught. "Fuck it has wait..." Will opened a book and pamphlets full of WWI materials. "Why would they house military stuff down here if the war was supposed to be fought in another continent?" Said George. "I don't know lets get out of here, quick get this stuff in your bag." So Will and George carried three to four boxes worth of military utility gear and stuffed some in their backpack. They made their way back to the shaft when they heard footsteps. "Oh no!" Said George. "Lets run. Get your weapons." Will and George ran for their lives. They knew a PAUA soldier was behind them. "I hear people running, do you?" A soldier on a team of two from the aftermath military overheard Will and George making their run. "Lets follow it now." The soldiers took out their guns and proceeded to follow the footsteps. "They are close man, fuck this I'm throwing a grenade." George grabbed a grenade and remembered how they worked from listening to Prescot's drills and made a calculated move to throw it as they turned the corner to see them and it killed one and injured the other on spot. "Good call man." Said Will. Chapter 9 "Okay seriously what the hell am I doing here?! You need to let me go or I swear to god." Sandra felt the sting of imprisonment. She was trying to act crazy but was secretly calculating her next move. The guards placed her in an enclosure with no windows just a bolted door and gave her food twice a day. They let her use the make shaft toilet every now and then. But other than that she had little interaction. She spoke to herself when they left her alone. "I wonder how the hell I can escape from here. Luckily they didn't put cuffs on me which tells me they lack supplies or are stupid. My advantage is my hands and feet. But what if they are experimenting on me now with these white walls? Who knows if there is a mirror somewhere or surveillance. Oh god I'm already going crazy in here." Sandra started to get a little worried. "Ah I got it. Just like a flash of inspiration. Yes!" Sandra felt hopeful. "You are getting one more meal later today." The guard said quickly. "Wait!" Sandra said. "What is it?" The guard was impatient. "I mean is it daybreak or something out there?" Sandra asked. "Yes its daybreak now. Eat your food." The guard said and shut the door. "Fuck this food is so junky its disgusting. I'm eating military food. If only I knew some more psi techniques like how to telepathically communicate with another soldier or living person down here. I shouldn't have left my family to explore other tunnels around here. Fuck, now I'm an experiment. What if they search for me and get caught. I am just praying that they don't." Sandra felt sorry for herself but tried to remain strong. "God this food is disgusting. I was eating rice and beans now this shit." Sandra was a spoiled survivor. "Ok now for escape route. I am going to drop him to the floor with my technique of sweeping his ankle then I am going bang his head against the door post by knocking him unconscious. And stealing his clothes. Only praying there is not surveillance in this thing." Sandra plan was clear as day or should we say night. Sandra heard footsteps and proceeded to stretch near the door. "Here is your last meal hope you like it." The guard said sarcastically before tossing it on the floor when all of a sudden Sandra sweeped her feet under his ankle causing him to fall. As he reached for his taser, she grabbed it first and tasered him then slammed his head against the door knocking him unconscious. "Mission complete." Sandra said. "Now I gotta change into these clothes quick. They are going to be looking for him." Sandra said. Sandra dressed into the PAUA outfit and tossed her hair up in a knot. Then she wore the hat they used. And proceeded out of there. Running for her life back to her family. Chapter 10 "What is it these men?" Sir Prescott snickered as he turned in his black chair. "They are huffing and puffing and out of breath. I believe they want to meet with you now." Tiffany said in an appeasing manner. "Fine get them in. I gotta work too those knuckleheads must have found something." Prescott looked stern. Tiffany walked toward their private tunneled barrack and told them they had a chance to see Prescott. "Come on boys, though he was working on the phone and signal you can come in now." Tiffany said. "Sir we found armory back there." Will exclaimed. "What else?" Prescott wondered why they were out of breath. "We were going to be captured by the aftermath government soldier's but I threw a grenade at them and ran like hell!" George said. "Yeah we ran like hell!" Will said. "Man shut up." George said. "Okay boys, bring it to me." Prescott pondered what they could use it for but only for defense against the Pacific Atlantic Union Association. Will and George took the box and their backpacks filled military utility and showed it to Prescott. There included two boxes of unused grenades, flashlights, military food, aluminum foils, and pocket knives. "Good find. Good job boys. You should go back to your barrack. I'll get Tiffany to bring you the food we have." Prescott said. "Alright. That's cool." George said. Will and George walked back to their resting area. And had a talk with each other before they had some food. "I don't man. I am tired of following Prescott's orders. Why don't we just escape without him knowing and make it to the ground. We need to get on with our life instead of being slaves down here." George said. "Are you kidding me? We've got soldiers at our backs. Prescott's got things he can use to our benefit. Asides who knows what's up there. What if there are zombies and what if there are carcasses. How the hec are we going to survive if the atom bomb destroyed flesh and vegetation." Will felt cautious and wasn't interested. "Shit man you stupid." George felt trapped while Will thought he knew better. "Walter what do you think? I can't stay here no more man. There's about five of us fools down here. We just do what Prescott says, feed ourselves, clean ourselves with left over water that's purified again which is nasty man, and who knows we might be caught. We need a fresh start." George felt frustrated. "Let's just give it some more time. I say we just fight back and try to over power them. That's why Prescott is down here you fools. He is working secretly with other private networks making a rebellion." Walter knew better. "Maybe I should stay. Will and Walter I think your right." George felt his head sooth and he fell asleep like the rest of them eventually. Chapter 11 "May you come here for a second Tiffany?" Prescott felt nervous about his next move. "Yes sir I am writing a memo for another cell network. May we schedule something later." Tiffany felt uneasy. "No." Prescott answered. "Very well, give me a second." Tiffany made her way to the soldier's headquarters from her cubicle without giving a second thought fearing an advance from the boss. "What he wants now?" George annoyedly replied. "Well I was wondering if any of you had a question for Prescott?" Tiffany couldn't tell them what she meant, but with her body language it was detected by all three men. "Oh geez." Walter felt sorry for her as he sensed Prescott was getting horny. "Yeah I have a question I'll go with you." Walter volunteered. "Fucking asshole." Will replied and George chuckled as his friend. Tiffany made her way to see Prescott with a surprise. "God he's been drinking." Tiffany said to Walter in a nervous tone. "Great, I thought he never drank?" Walter felt down. "Nope he does every now and then, he's a binger." Tiffany said. "Oh great what do I say?" Walter said. "Just say you want to go on another run.." Tiffany answered. "Fine." Walter rolled his eyes. Dammit where is she? That heffer. "I am back. Oh dear , Walter had a question before and I had forgotten and so I brought him now before making too much out of your time." "Dammit I called for you Tiffany." Prescott coughed. "Fucker what do you need Walter?" Prescott coughed excess alcohol on his binge habit. Walter felt so sad that he didn't have a family to get away from this madness. He wondered what it felt to even be in a family and how in the world he was brought about in this mad world of an underground rebellious network to get away from the PAUA. "I was hoping to go on another run.. uh I'm getting bored in there." Walter exclaimed. "Well, I see you are in the mood for another run. Tiffany what do you have for me?" Prescott felt pleased with Walter. "I am thinking we need to go more Northwest in the direction of the compass provided to us because I think we are missing this location." Tiffany said. "If we search Northwest I do foresee that we could be in or around enemy camps, so no." Prescott said. "Just wait until I find more information with my gadgets and we'll talk later, you can take him back." Prescott ordered them around like a boss because of his knowledge and his reputation in the underground. Tiffany walked him back to his quarter and it didn't take long before the soldiers were plotting an escape without Walter's knowledge. **** "Will seriously you are so stupid, we don't even know if we are man made machines or something. We need to see what's out there." George talked. "Like I told you this man Prescott knows what he's doing. Yeah he's vindictive, yeah he treats us like little bitches, but we don't have food, we don't have arms, he's in the know. You fool. I don't know let me sleep on it some more." Will said again. "Okay one more stinking day, I swear. Then I'm out with or without you, its probably just some desert land up there." George said. "Yeah with zombies you fool!" Will yelled back. Chapter 12 Oh my god I made it out of there alive. Sandra said to herself as she was walking past the gateway of the tunnels. She knew she had a limited time to make it back to her family. Okay there must be a code somewhere if I can make it past this gate then I can make it back to my family. Sandra scanned the surveillance around her and realized something. I am going to walk to past when the other crew men walks then I can just exist. And talk about a new code, like Code Orange or something. Sandra thought to herself. "Hi there." Sandra said to her crewman. "Sir..." The crewmen put in his code and the gate opened from the secret military complex designed by the PAUA to keep experiments and enemies in tact. "Nevermind." She walked past through with him. "That's a violation." The solider said. "I am on Code Orange I am in a hurry." She said with a stern male voice. "Copy." The soldier wrote it off. Sandra proceeded to walk past the tunnel complex and figured how to return to the outside. She made her way past their notice and escaped in the nick of time. "We lost her she knocked down the guard unconscious." The PAUA solider said. **** "Donde fuiste eh?" The mother asked for her whereabouts. "Mom oh my god we gotta leave!" Sandra said in a anxious state of mind. "Que te paso?" The mother said. "Can you call dad mom?" Sandra pleaded. "Roberto ben paca , your daughter is back." Sandra's mother, Leticia said. "What happened to you? We were worried and sick?!" Roberto said. "The soldier took me for an experiment and I had to camoflauge to escape. The soldiers were waiting to do something on me, it was so scary! I should have never left you guys." Sandra regretted exploring the tunnels. "Oh no. This is dangerous we need to get back to the top of the soil to escape the soldiers. We have to escape." Roberto stated. "How we escape no food over there." Leticia was worried. "Mom our lives are at risk down here with those people. I was almost bait." Sandra said. "Okay let's pack up food and gather our things." Roberto and Leticia listened to their daughter's plea thank goodness. And Sandra felt better. Thank god I'm back home and now we have to leave this underground shit. Fuck this life is crazy. What on earth happened to our planet? Chapter 13 "Tiffany will get them these books to read?" Prescott said. "Sure but we need to talk." Tiffany said grudgingly. "Well what is it?" Prescott snickered. "What was yesterday about? You wanted me all to yourself and I do not like my private space invaded. I am grateful I work for your network otherwise I could be a piece of meat in outer space but this is unacceptable I will not be slung around here like meat either." Tiffany felt agitated. "Fine. Suit yourself. Take these books to the men. It is an informative book about astronomy and how to navigate the earth based on the big dipper and the polaris star. Hurry on." Prescott said. "Ugh. Fine." Tiffany left with the books. Tiffany in her pantsuit and sweater made her way through the corridor of the hall that was slightly narrow and bent on looking old and worn. It was odd she made her way gracefully. She thought to herself how she ended up in a place like this. "Hey... Prescott has ordered me to give you books about astronomy to locate certain places. Obviously you should be reading them to understand how to navigate through places without any other means." Tiffany felt compelled to make these brutes understand. "Okay but if I read the book we are underground how is that going to help?" Will said. "If you read it now it will work later smart alec." Tiffany felt angst working alongside men. "Well if you just figure out by memory it will work later dumb ass." Walter always defended poor Tiffany and Precott. He always seemed to be a brown noser. "Okay what's it called?" George said inquisitively . "Here its called "The Order of the Constellations for Navigation"" Tiffany said. "Okay wow this is a great book. I have to read this.. so by when?" George said. "There is no timeline that he gave me. Just read it at any time. The sooner the better. You never know when your getting out of here alive." Tiffany said. "Just in the nick of time." George stated this because he wanted out of the underground barracks without Prescott's knowledge and now he had a means to survive by location at least. "What do you mean nick of time?" Walter said. "For whatever foo, mind your business." Will was annoyed. "Sheez can't ask a question around here." Walter felt agitated. "Okay I'm leaving." Tiffany said. Tiffany walked away back to her cell and thought sad thoughts to herself over her life. What if I don't ... god what am I doing down here? I wish I were dead sometimes. "Okay bye." Will said. "god your such as an asshole. You know you got a lot of nerve treating her like that. She is probably going through hell living with us." Walter said nerved by Will. "Man shut up. And don't bring up my plans before Tiffany, she can squeal and he can let me go quick." Will said. "Fine. I am sleeping. Good night." Walter said. "Aren't you reading?" George asked. "No I am not reading, why should I. Why not later, geez I just got the book!" Walter was nerved again. Awkward silence "Fucking shit I want to die." Walter said to himself. "Don't be a little punk alright."Will said. "Will, come on leave him alone. He's trying to relax in this stressful situation." George tried to ameliorate the situation. "Forget this I'm leaving." Will threatened to leave the two men once again. Chapter 14 "I gotta sneak out right now." Will said without hesitation to what will be his old pal George. "What are you doing man you are going to be beef!" George said worriedly. "We beef here man. Don't even know about this Prescott. Network for what I can get caught, I'm out. Your in or what?" Will said. "NO!" George said with doubt, and cowardice. "Fine I'm out." Will stuffed his bed with clothing and snuck out with Prescott's bag of weapons and a week's worth of food and drink in his bag. "What are you doing man? You better not get me in trouble?" George said annoyed. "I'm not man. Peace out man. You know we didn't get along much but you were my only homie. I gotta go." Will left with peace of mind. As he made it pass the enclave of the chamber in the time they rested he realized that Tiffany was penning things in her pad. He luckily walked past her as silent as a mouse. Will closed the enclave behind him with only a flashlight and two grenades ready to use. He walked so far in the tunnels he realized he needed that astronomy map and doubt began to creep in. Its alright its alright don't doubt now Will, you can do this After realizing he was out on his own he felt both liberated and afraid. But something was amiss underground that he felt was trouble so he had to stake out on his own. He saw nothing but grimey walls with sewage and dirt. He also recognized exits and entrances that would lead away from the PAUA's traps. So as he made his way he never thought he'd pray but he did. God if you are out there I need to know help me make it to the top. I don't deserve this no one does. I just want out. As he made his way for another 10 miles on foot he stopped to take a break and eat a meal. He wasn't aware if his superior was aware but it didn't matter anymore. Only the future mattered. All of a sudden a light cracked from a sewer opening. But he realized there was a hurdle to get to the top. How am I going to get up there I ain't got nothing to prop me up. Only my bag. I should have thought of this. Maybe I can jump and clutch it. Will then proceeded to jump he missed thrice before the fourth attempt he was able to break free. And as he dangled he tried to unloosen it to the left so he can jump at the circular opening and catch the top. At last it moved to the left and he hung on the open sewage circular handle and propped up himself out of there with his weight. Oh my god there is a God! The light is so hurting my eyes right now oh my god! I found natural light ... wow what is that?! Chapter 15 "There seems to be a dome-like structure in the middle of this sun dried place. I don't know what it could be? Could it be a government structure? I better stay away." Said Will. "I have to find water and food. It seems the trees are decayed and the water source is like nowhere. Man I am wondering if I did the right thing. But at least I don't feel trapped anymore. Its no man's land up here." Will made his way to the dome rock like structure. "Its abandoned. Oh hell no! Is this a mosque?" Will said worriedly. "I see nothing but shoes and open books. Oh my god there's people here?" Will felt curious about what lays ahead of him. "Okay I see that they must have died. Phew the coast is clear. I have to see if there is food. I don't see nothing. All I can rummage is a couple of books. I wonder how this structure stood the test of atom bombs this is crazy?" Will said noting the vacancy of the land amidst the rock. "Who are you? What are you doing here?" Said the Arab survivor with weaponry across his chest of ammunition, a canister and a white headscarf. "Oh I am no threat. I come for peace. I am a survivor too." Said Will trying to diminish his threatening presence in a calm manner while raising his arms. "Okay if you have anything you bring for me give it now, or I shoot." The Arab survivor wanted to loot from him as he was able to. "How many of you are here?" Will said thinking to himself he messed up. "There are only three of us here." The Arab survivor said. "Okay but don't shoot. Here... I have a flashlight, a couple of meals, weapon, clothes, and water." Will handed it to him with his hands in the air. "Okay I take it and you run from me." The Arab survivor at least didn't take his life but his belongings of what little he had left in his hands. Will handed him his backpack of goods to survive in the land. "Oh my god!" Will left running away from the man toward another direction. "What did I get myself into? I should have stayed with Prescott. What if he finds out? Should I go back down? I think I should probably go back down. This place is worse than down there. Who knows who you'll meet. I should have listened to George. Dammit! I'm going back. I lost all of my survival tools. I won't make it if I stay up here. I know how to fight but they've got guns. I'm going back... I just have to get out of his sight. Then go back from where I was to get back to the sewage." Will said running away. Chapter 16 George said to Walter, “I don’t feel like reading these stupid books. I should just kill myself.” “Shut up George, be grateful you’re still alive. You could be in a way worse situation. At least he’s taking care of us and Tiffany. You horsebreath of a man.” Rebutted Walter. “If I read this what’s in it for me? Just knowledge when I ain’t in power. You know what I mean. I should have left with Will and not put up with this shit.” Said George. **** “Shit man, did I get caught?!” Exclaimed Will. “No idiot, we knew you’d come back, its dangerous out there, what did you see?” Said Walter. “I didn’t see nothing but men in turbans waving around guns at me over nothing but a flank or some kind of trade. Ain’t no way we safe anywhere goddammit.” Said Will. “You mean to tell me that there’s survivors?” Said George. “Yes!” Exclaimed Will. “How in the fucking world did they survive?” Said George and Walter at the same time. “No way of telling how they survived. I’m thinking from what I saw they lived underground and are taking advantage of the situation, trying to stake their own turf.” Replied Will. “Oh in that case, we are better off underground. Prescott is doing the same thing but he’s trying to arm us against experimentation on Mars.” Said Walter. “Wait a minute, you mean experimentation on Mars you say?” Will said. “Yes. Can’t you tell the PAUA wants to send us there, we’re definitely going to be experimented on by Mars.” Replied Walter. “Why?” Said George.
