People ask me what next after passing NCLEX-RN. I usually advise folks not to panic or border yet before passing NCLEX since it's another long, monotonous and emotionally taxing stage, but since you insist, here we go. Anyway, this thread is useful for newbie NCLEX passers and future USRNs. Save it.........#thread Congratulations on passing the NCLEX-RN! Congratulations on your perseverance. You're either with an agency (sponsored) or self-sponsored at this point. If you're already with one, they'll ask about your chosen US destination and start hunting for work. Self-sponsored job seekers can join an agency or discover direct-hire recruiters. (Not today's topic.) IELTS/VISA SCREEN Start IELTS prep and write soon. Speaking is 7, and overall is 6.5. Apply for Visa Screen after passing IELTS at any stage of the process before the interview stage. (Not today's topic) JOB HUNTING AND PETITION FILING Imagine you've completed all pre-employment checks and landed a position at your ideal location. Congratulations! The attorney of your agency/direct hire (henceforth "recruiters") will file an I-140 petition (like a COS in the UK process) with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Standard filling takes 2-3 months, while premium takes 15 days (and costs $2500). Always file premium, as it's faster and better. Who's paying? You're free. It's on recruiters. Tracking receipts are issued. Always ask for this. Your I-140 will be approved, or the USCIS will issue an RFE (Request For further Evidence). They'll say what evidence they require and why. If accepted, a "form I-797" approval notice will be given to your recruiter; always ask for crucial documentation. https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do can track your I-140 online. Enter the receipt number for tracking. WELCOME LETTER After your I-140 is approved, USCIS will forward your petition to the Department of State, a.k.a. National Visa Centre (NVC). The NVC sends your recruiter a welcome letter with your case number and invoice ID. Some take months; it relies on your eagerness to chase your recruiter or USCIS/NVC if it's late. Some recruiters send you your welcome letter before your fee bill arrives (next stage). VACCINATION AND POLICE CLEARANCE Vaccination and Police Clearance Stage https://www.acro.police.uk/Police-Certificates-Online Apply for UK police clearance. Also, apply for police clearance (all countries lived for 6 months or more). FEE BILL Fee-Bill is the bill you and your dependents (if applicable) must pay, usually $345 per person regardless of age or gender. Your recruiter pays yours while you pay for your dependants, or they pay for them, and you refund your recruiter when you get to the US. FORM DS-260 Form DS-260 opens for you and your dependents (if applicable) after the Fee Bill is paid. This form includes criminal checks, etc. You must give the US government your social media accounts for a background check. Be careful what you tweet. (As I have always said.) After submitting the form, send travel papers (your passport, birth Cert, marriage cert, and police clearance for all applicants except those under 16) CASE COMPLETED It's tiring and boring, yet you're already relieved at this stage. After all DS-260 checks and document approvals in a few weeks, your case will be completed (CC). Now you'll wait for the Consulate/Embassy interview date (usually your resident location). After receiving an interview date, you'll be told to book your medicals, which include a vaccination check, chest X-ray, and other checks. VISA INTERVIEW Bring all paperwork and remain calm on interview day. You have more than a 90% chance of getting a Green Card (permanent Residency). WOW!! Even doctors don't have that chance (sorry to chip this in, my bad). If there's a problem, you'll be put under "administrative processing" until you produce further proof (rare circumstances), but you won't be denied (except for Village people intervention). BREAK FREE…. Boom! You're a permanent resident of the U.S. for life, with no visa renewal wahala and no commitment to stay with a single employer. Once you finish your contract or pay your recruiter off, you're free to find another work and live freely within the USA. It's a long, monotonous, and emotionally taxing procedure, but the tremendous prize is worth it. To encourage me to write more content like this, share, like, retweet, and follow......
