NEW GLOBAL SOCIAL MEDIA RULES FOR HANDLE (USERNAME/ACCOUNT) MANAGEMENT. (3/11/2021) - V1.1 Dear Social Media CEOs & To Whom It May Concern, As our Company, Pure Play Systems, currently holds and owns a large number of Domain Names (.COMs), and that we are in the business of developing multiple Online Platforms, over the years, it has come to our attention that as the number of Social Media Platforms grew in number across the world, it has become increasingly difficult for particularly, businesses to manage ownership of all Social Media Handles with the same identical Domain Name. We would like to put forward a fair proposal for all Social Media Platforms to follow and adhere to as a uniform set of Rules that are backed and supported by Domain Registrars and particularly, ICANN, ALL Domain Name Authorities, and World Governments. Handle/Username registration has become increasingly, a major issue for Domain Name Holders/Owners in conducting their business and affairs and will very likely become a great problem for all Social Media Platforms, in the very near future, if not resolved now. The reasons for this are very clear: 1) In an example, in the past, we, ourselves have had the unpleasant experience of a (known from childhood and,) very short- minded individual purposely and anonymously ‘squatting’ on a matching Social Media Handle (on Twitter) for over 10 years, simply out of spite and jealousy when he discovered that we own the Domain Name, registering the Handle (SARGEX) after us, rather than focusing on growing his own assets. Many businesses have faced similar difficulties, where such individuals squat on Handles for: a. Profit, in order to sell a Social Media Handle to Domain Name Holder/Owner, when the Social Media Handle was very likely free and easy to register in the first place, although it is in most cases, against the Policies of most Social Media Platforms to sell Handles/Usernames/Accounts despite the practice existing and growing rapidly. b. Pure spite of success, jealousy, or hatred, to block a Domain Name Holders progress, success in business and affairs. They often forget the Handle and abandon it thereafter, rendering the Handle Name useless for everyone concerned. 2) As Social Media Platforms pass the ‘10 Years of Business Mark’, there must be a way to ‘recycle’ Social Media Handles in the same manner Domain Names are recycled for each new social generation. Regularly, domains are abandoned for: a. Failure in business. b. Loss of Interest. c. Death or passing away of the Owner. However, asides from many Companies such as ours who hold Domain Names, much like Physical Land Property, and pay the yearly ‘Upkeep’/Renewal Fees, in contrast, Social Media Handles/Usernames when abandoned are generally sent into limbo, rendering them useless for individuals who wish to use a clean Username/Handle for their Domain that is not confusing for their clients and/or audience. 3) Where a Renewal Fee is required for Domain Names, which squarely and perfectly deals with the above issues as most of the individuals that cause such problems intentionally are not prepared to pay a yearly Upkeep Fee, Social Media Handles are more than often free. This means that any person with malicious intent as described in the above example, can quickly register the Handle and then upon abandonment or misuse, put the Handle in limbo, rendering it useless to a Domain Name Holder, who actually requires it for fair and proper use, as that is why they paid good money for it in the first place. 4) Great Domain names often cost thousands of dollars, and it is the duty of Social Media Platforms to extend the courtesy of their “free Handle Registration” to those individuals who paid the price for a Domain Name, rather than a first-come, first-serve basis. And, as the market for Social Media accounts has grown rapidly into fully operational businesses, it will become increasingly difficult to ‘lock-down’ all Social Media Handles immediately for the humble self-starting business person when bots can be created to prey on such individuals registering Domains to freely register their Handle, beating them to it in order to profit from them. This disappointment often leads to delays in their business operation, having a chain reaction effect on several if not hundreds of people that were planning to benefit from said business. The main issue here is that the Social Media Handles are free and they are often forced into a state of limbo in stark contrast to the mechanics of Domain Management. 5) Regulation of Usernames/Handles is a great way to keep all Social Media Platforms clean and up to date, encouraging real Users to use your Platforms as it is far more attractive for one’s own Business and Profile. Please bear in mind that ownership disputes of Domain Names on Copyright Litigation, Intellectual Property, and Local Business Registration are a matter for the Judicial and Federal Courts and is beyond the scope of this proposal. Therefore, we PROPOSE the following RULES for ALL Social Media Platforms that all our platforms will STRICTLY follow: 1 | P a g e - 3/11/2021 - V 1 . 1 - p u r e p l a y s y s t e m s . c o m | @ p u r e p l a y s y s t e m s NEW GLOBAL SOCIAL MEDIA RULES FOR HANDLE (USERNAME/ACCOUNT) MANAGEMENT. (3/11/2021) - V1.1 1) All Social Media Platforms are obliged to freely give/hand over Usernames/Handles/Accounts of their platform with the IDENTICAL character set of that of a DOMAIN NAME to the Domain Name Owner, where they can provide Proof of Ownership with the .COM’s Email unless the platform has specific purchasing options, similar to current Domain Register Rules and Regulations with due respect to the following: a. If Handle/Username/Account is in limbo (not in use by anyone but cannot be registered also), a simple, .COM Email check will suffice as proof of ownership and Username/Handle/Account is granted to Domain Name Owner. b. If Handle/Username/Account is being used, DOMAIN Name Owner takes precedence over the Current User and Current User must willingly forfeit the Handle/Username. However, the Social Media Platform is then obliged to issue Previous User with a new one with perhaps a suffix or an entirely new Handle with prior warning by Account and/or Email. The change of ownership is automated by Social Media Platform and the Previous Owner can be issued a Temporary Username until they decide to change to another one of their preference. All Platform Users, therefore, run the risk of forfeiting their Username, if they do not have identical Domain Name. (We advise, that if an individual is truly serious about their profile and business, to purchase the Domain Name. The upkeep/renewal fee is very affordable for anyone serious about their business and profile. Otherwise, simply prefix or suffix your Username with an unused TLD character set and allow those who are serious about their business and profile to conduct their profession, fairly and without ambiguity.) c. As there are now very many variations of domain extensions (TLDs) such as .CO .NET .AU .CH etc., as per the history of Domain Names, the .COM takes precedence and Handle/Username must be presented to the identical Domain Name Owner without any further contest. We advise all Social Media Platforms to allow (.) usage as a suffix in Usernames, as well as other characters such as ( - ) Dash and ( _ ) Underscore, so where such a conflict exists, the ownership of the Handle/Username with no suffix, rightfully belongs to whoever owns the .COM. The individual who forfeits the Username/Handle/Account must either then choose to suffix their Username Handle with an identical extension or select a new Handle/Username entirely. This means that all Social Media platforms should disallow the .COM prefix as a natural rule, although it makes no real difference, it being superfluous. 2) Where a Handle/Username has been in misuse, or de-activated, all Social Media platforms release the Handle Name/Username/Account Name after no more than a 12 Months’ timeframe, though we recommended immediate release to Domain Name Owner unless Social Media Platform has reason to believe Domain Owner is in breach of Platform Policies that far outweigh and exceed the common sense of these Rules. 3) All Social Media Platforms provide a Facility for Domain Name Holders to conduct claims to Usernames/Handles/Account Names easily. Usually, the better the facilities provided, the better the Platforms in our well-observed opinion. 4) All Usernames/Handles/Accounts can be held indefinitely by Owners of identical Domain Names until they are ready to conduct business with Usernames/Handle. If they are no longer the Owner, then these Rules re-apply to the new Domain Name Owner. 5) All Handles/Usernames/Accounts can be collated into a Domain Resale as a complete package just like Physical Business Property by the Owner and ALL Social Media Platforms must allow this is to be possible without giving precedence to Original Registering Email (OG) but give precedence to Domain Email as this has also become a problem with Username/Handle resales where Original Handle Holder contests the New Handle Holder after a sale, on grounds of an account ‘hack’ to re- obtain the Handle, often erroneously granted by the Social Media platform on the grounds of their Policy. We at Pure Play Systems, strongly believe that this Social Media Handle problem must be addressed and that it is most definitely the time that we provide a unified front to defend all Domain Name Owners and their rights throughout the internet. Years of thought have contributed to these Rules and we also firmly believe that they are well defined, comprehensive and just. We welcome any feedback and suggestions for amendments to them by all. We look forward to seeing these Rules applied to ALL Social Media Platforms, globally. We also warmly welcome all that are affected by this problem to champion this proposal at their discretion. Kind Regards, Suranga S Perera Managing Director, Pure Play Systems. 2 | P a g e - 3/11/2021 - V 1 . 1 - p u r e p l a y s y s t e m s . c o m | @ p u r e p l a y s y s t e m s
