These being divided into 5 categories as noted below: Native Species, Archaeophyte Species, Neophyte Species, Casual Taxon and Horticultural Plants. Native Species These are species that have arrived in Britain without the agency of man, either deliberate or unintentional, from an area where they are also native. It therefore follows that those hybrids that arose naturally in the wild in Britain are also considered natives whether or not their parent taxa are native. Most of the species found here were in this category. Archaeophyte Species (alien species) These species are those that first appeared in the wild in Britain before AD1500. A very small number these were found here. Neophyte Species (alien species) These are species that were first recorded from the wild in Britain after AD1500. A small number of these species were noted here. Casual Taxon (alien species) A Casual Taxon is one that cannot maintain itself by seeding or vegetative spread and requires re-introduction in order to maintain itself from year to year. Trees, shrubs and clump-forming perennials that survive the winter and are not even reproducing vegetatively but are much longer lived than those which die out each winter, can also become extinct unless re-introduced. None of these were found here. Horticultural Plants An agricultural, forestry or horticultural plant species, hybrid, variety or form which sometimes occurs in the wild, such an escape does not readily fall into any of the above categories. A small number of these were recorded here.
