We are a community of calisthenics coaches and athletes at all levels, united together to help better ourselves, support each other and become our strongest versions physically and mentally. Many of us have come from other training backgrounds, like weight training and Crossfit, but it failed to ignite the passion inside of us. We were stuck in the rut of adding an extra kilogram to our lift, dropping a pound on the scale, and shaping up our bodies to 'perfection' that we were left lost, unmotivated, and with no true purpose with our fitness. We were injured, so we trained harder, only to get more injuries. We had back pain, knee pain and shoulder pain, which got in the way of our lives, meaning we couldn't do the sports we loved, walk our kids or even get out of bed. Calisthenics allowed us to re-introduce the real purpose for exercise - play, community and fun. While simultaneously making us stronger than ever before, looking our best (without aesthetics being the main goal), meeting like-minded, amazing people, and never feeling like the gym is a chore anymore. 5 WHAT IS CALISTHENICS? Calisthenics can mean many things. It can be the way the military trains for battle. It's how my grandma stays fit and healthy in her elder years and it's how millions of people across the world develop themselves into stronger, healthier versions of themselves. Have you ever seen someone doing a handstand? That's calisthenics. Ever watched the Olympics and seen the incredible feats of strength on the gymnastics rings? That's calisthenics. Ever done a pushup? A squat or lunge? That's calisthenics. Ultimately, calisthenics is about mastering your bodyweight. Translating from Greek to "beautiful strength", calisthenics is all about using your own bodyweight as resistance to learn new skills, master new strength, and develop new ways to move your body. Progressive challenge paired with solid goals and the enjoyment that comes with exploring your physical potential is a perfect recipe for long-term success and fulfilment in your fitness journey. The beauty of calisthenics is it's for everyone. You can do it anywhere, anytime and anyone can start doing it. You could be a professional athlete, a young child in school, or someone who's never stepped foot in the gym before! It helps us to tone the body, burn bellyfat like never before and protect our body against injury, all because we're moving the way our bodies are meant to move. 5 OUR STORY CaliUnity started 5 years ago, at the University of Bath, where a group of friends were sick and tired of getting injured, feeling alone in the gym and repeating the same old boring movements again and again. One of us started incorporating calisthenics, and the transformation was epic. We decided we were all going to give this a try and train as a collective. By training together, we found we could push ourselves harder, work together to find more in ourselves and have fun in the process. Our injuries healed, and they never came back. Our bodies were the strongest they've ever felt, where we found our performance improved in the other sports we did too. Most of all though, we re- ignited our passion for training, where rather than training being a drag, we couldn't wait till our next session together and trained harder than ever to make progress. 5 SPREADING THE LOVE Some of us were coaches, and we utilised the movements to help the beginners in our sessions, and the results we saw were incredible. Shoulder pain? Gone. Back pain? Gone. Struggle to lose fat? Shred fat by actually wanting to train rather than feeling like you're forcing yourself. Struggle to gain muscle? Easy, while looking athletic and strong in the process. Suddenly, we found a fitness system that worked for everyone, and that everyone enjoyed, because it appealed to our human nature - we trained as a tribe, moved the way our bodies were meant to move and enjoyed fitness. All the coaches in the group that previously used weight training switched to calisthenics, and we've never gone back. Bodyweight training was a miracle, and it was working for so many people, so we couldn't hide from the results. We had to spread the word, we had to build the CaliUnity and help more people get stronger, tone up and protect their body against injury. 5 We started formulating a method to progress in bodyweight training, all the way from someone doing their first pushup to the crazy feats of strength you see online or in the olympics. After reading books, attending courses and lots and lots of experimentation, we formulated a method - the CaliUnity method. There is a progression tree, there is a way, so we showed people this new way to train. We started classes at the University of Bath Sports Training Village, and they were full every week. We hosted meetups at Victoria Park, and we had full numbers, up to 30, even in the freezing cold. We spread the word all over Bath, starting classes in FLY Fitness, TONIQ, sparking a revolution in training. 5 We were training in parks, on trees and at the beach, so why couldn't we help people all over the world to get fit and experience what we had? Everyone has a right to be fit. Right now, we train clients all across the world, from Australia to America, India to Canada. All these people loved the simplicity of bodyweight training, but they all agreed that the community, accountability and feedback kept them going, despite being on the other side of the world. We were also sick of using awful equipment that broke, wasn't stable and felt shabby. We all pitched in for one of our engineers to make our first product - the CaliUnity parallettes. We didn't stop there, developing gymnastics rings and wrist wraps, anything we could find to help us even more. We built equipment for athletes, by athletes, through testing and developing equipment over years of classes, PT sessions and abuse by nature outside at meetups. We now supply these products to gyms all over Bath, and have a thriving store online, so you can be assured you're using top-of- the-line equipment in the gym, and you may even win some equipment too..! 5 THE GYM After 5 years of the CaliUnity being spread across Bath and beyond, we decided to create our home, the CaliUnity gym. We took from our knowledge of coaching classes, PT sessions and meetups to create the ultimate class experience. We put our handy skills to the test by making the gym completely from scratch, with no external help. We enlisted the CaliUnity to help build their home. We filled it with our premium, industry-leading equipment, giving the CaliUnity it's dream space to train. PROGRAM PILLAR #2 - NUTRITION Yo-yo dieting doesen’t work. It may work for you, yes, for a month, but in the long run, which is the only thing that matters, it won’t work. Fad diets are all the rage today. Cut carbs! Cut sugar! Cut bloody eating with a fork and you’ll probably lose weight! All these diets, created by marketing experts to get you to buy their book, their program and hand them your cash. In the end, all the diets are doing is one simple thing, which I’ll explain later. I’ve tried everything. I was obese as a kid, and I didn’t know any better, so the only way I knew how to lose weight was do what everyone else did - diet? My weight went up and down, over and over, and in reality, I actually gained weight overtime. We get hit with a spike of motivation, cling on with discipline and willpower to cut out some magical part of our diet that we probably need and viola! We’ve lost weight. All those diets are doing, is making you eat less. Simple as. We all know how to lose weight. Eat less and move more. Simple. But we don’t do it - why? Because that’s hard, or it’s maybe too simple? We need the miracle cure, the scientficially backed argument to engage our rational brains. We need to be convinced to change our lives for the better. Well, what if there's another way? Don't believe us? Read a few of our member stories below... 6 lewis Lewis' goals were to lose a bit of belly fat and put on muscle, something of which he's always struggled with. He jokingly used to say "I just wanna fill out my tshirt! and feel badass when I do jui jitsu!". Lewis tried going to the gym but could never stick out a routine or find enjoyment, especially with his busy job working nightshifts. He came to us in search of answers, hoping we could be the last gym he ever signed up to. After a solid year of consistent training and getting on top of nutrition, Lewis now rocks his t-shirt, gaining a tonne of muscle in his chest, shoulders and arms. He's gone from a handful of pushups to handstand pushups, and no pullups to being weeks away from his first muscle-up. But most importantly, Lewis has found a lifelong love for exercise and enjoys the journey. He's always sending us pictures of him doing pushups when he's bored on his nightshift! 6 JACKSON & chum A.K.A Power Couple! Both Jackson and Chum came to us back in 2020 with severe back pain. They had been to every physio under the sun and had countless MRI's, but still, no answer. Jackson struggled for years to build muscle and was always picked on for being skinny and weak, so he turned to Crossfit. This made his back pain worse and now unbearable, so he had to stop. Jackson had little hope left, until he met Ollie through a friends' recommendation. He weighed 66kg at the time, could barely hold a plank and was on multiple painkillers. Fast forward to today, Jackson weighs 76kg, putting on 10kg of pure muscle, can do advanced skills like muscle ups and back levers, and to top it all off has completely cured his back. The best thing though? He can now do a plank with Ollie sitting on him - and Ollie weighs 100kg! After Jackson realised this method worked, he got his girlfriend Chum to try it. Chum is probably our most flexible member (watch her do the splits in warm ups!) but she could never work out why she still suffered with pain, until she tried strengthening her body - the other component to solving injuries. Chum could barely do a knee pushup or a squat without pain when she started. Skip forwards to now, and she's repping 10 pushups easy, handstands and crows in front of the class and guess what - her back pain only comes back when she DOESN'T TRAIN! Chum has not only strengthened her entire body and cured 10-year long pain, she has become one of the biggest inspirations in the room to the other women! Today, both Jackson and Chum are active members of CaliUnity, helping others with their form, giving advice, and referring as many people as they can to embark on the same life-changing journey as them! 6 6 chris Running 3 dental practices, Chris never thought he would have time for fitness. But over time, he became riddled with injuries and wanted to make a change before it was too late. He knew he needed to prioritise his own wellbeing if he wanted to be pain-free and able to do everyday things with his kids as they grow up. Chris originally started training online with us, using his bedroom as his gym. 6-months later when we opened the gym, he signed up for an entire year on the open day. Instead of waiting in the car for his kids to do their swimming and rugby training, he comes to the gym and works on skills he never thought he'd be able to do, like planche, muscle ups and handstand pushups! He even brings his son Fred along on Saturday mornings to join in, where they "compete" with eachother... in a friendly way! Chris' injuries are in check, he's back mountain biking with friends, he spends more quality time with his kids, and he finds running his dental practices a breeze now because he has so much more energy! jamie Jamie has always been an active kid. She swam in her teens, plays basketball and does everything else her active family throw at her. But, all that time, she was never able to build strength. She so wanted to be able to do a pushup, and feel strong. At first, she wasn't convinced that calisthenics would be right for her, and was skeptical. However, after seeing others achieving inspiring results, she couldn't hide from the facts any longer. jamie joined CaliUnity and never looked back. She can now handstand, rep pushups and is super close to her first pullup. But the thing she enjoys the most is the community: "I love getting stronger, unlocking new movements and feeling the best I've ever felt. But, for me, the main benefit is the community I'm now a part of. Whenever I don't want to train, I now I'm going to turn up to a group of people who are bettering themselves, that will support me in my journey and who are all working towards a common goal - helping eachother get stronger." Hannah Hannah wanted to tone up, improve her fitness, and sort out her niggling knee. But after a few sessions we realised the things that meant the most to her were being able to keep up with her dad on hikes, and feel like an goddess in her wedding dress in 8- months time. In light of this, when we opened the gym, she decided to put her wellbeing first, and signed up for 6-months paid in full. Fast forward nearly 2-months, Hannah has taken control of her fitness, is consistently coming to 3x sessions per week and is the strongest she's ever been, surpassing all other gyms she's attended previously. Not only has she just achieved three pushups in one go (Hannah struggled with one knee pushup when she started!) and is on her way to a pullup, she eats her favourite foods without feeling guilty, AND still makes incredible progress even when she goes on holiday. 6 PAUl Paul came to us 2 years ago, barely able to lift his arm over his head. He found it so humiliating how his wife, who doesn't train as hard as him, could lift 3x what he could overhead. Paul tried weightlifting, physio and had access to all the healthcare professionals money could buy. Surgery after surgery, physio sessions and lost of wasted money later, Paul was no better - he actually deteriorated. Ollie knew he had the answer, and Paul was ready to give it a try. After slowly introducing Paul to calisthenics - (outside in the park in lockdown!!), with a route of progression back to proper health, Paul finally saw progress. Paul's shoulder pain went from an 8/10 pain, to now a 1/10, with the weakness still being there, but not nearly as bad as it was before. He's doing advanced gymnastics skills, and is a pure inspiration for everyone out there struggling with injury. Paul loves the progression overtime, seeing how he was making progress, but ofcourse loved the shoulder healing up. He also found the exercises to be extremely targeted, with the trainers at CaliUnity knowing exactly what he needed to heal his shoulder. 6 Jack Jack came to us wanting to lose weight, so we pointed him straight to our 6 week challenge. His clear goal was to go from 112kgs to 105kgs, in 6 weeks! We took on the challenge, knowing that our combination of fitness, nutrition and accountability is industry leading. He was hesistant about calisthenics - isn't that too hard? I can barely do a pullup! Jack started with 3 sessions per week, joining in on group classes perfectly designed to burn belly fat, tone the body and heal injuries. He found his belly fat melted away, he saw crazy muscle gains around his chest, arms and shoulders and healed all the niggles and small injuries he had. He didn't just lose 7kg, but actually ended up losing over 9kg in the 6- weeks! But Jack's biggest win is cracking the fitness habit. He keeps training, keeps in touch with the community even when overseas and inspires others around him. He's the strongest he's ever been in his life, repping pullups with +10kg attached, easily stringing pushups together and crazy core strength that just helped him to show off his abs. Plus, he can plank with Ollie on him - a 100kg plank! 6 TONY Tony is everyone's idol in the CaliUnity. Kind, compassionate and an absolute beast. He gives back, supports and helps everyone on their journey. He truly is the father-figure of the CaliUnity. At 76, with Alzheimer's and Dementia, most people would start to slow down, put your feet up and chill out. But no, Tony's mantra is "I'll stop when I'm forced to stop". He first came to us with debilitating knee pain. He could no longer run and was going in for knee surgery in two months, to pair up with his other knee. He worked hard on full range of motion in the knee, rehabbing it slowly and surely following the progressions. One month later, Tony cancelled the knee surgery. He reps L-sit pullups, smashes the teens in pushups and still climbs to this day. He is a shining example of perseverance, dedication and an incessant passion for fitness. His advice to you: "it's never too late. It will never be the right time, the right circumstances. Motivation won't come out of thin air. You have to take action." 6 6 NATALIE Natalie first joined CaliUnity to help her get strong for the army - where she would be enlisting to training as an officer. She could so 2- 3 pullups, and had a great base level of strength. However, she wanted to make sure she'd be the best in her cohort. She trained hard, pushing herself day in day out, progressing her pullups to 10+. She can now do a pullup with an extra 24kg, which is currently the female record in CaliUnity - an absolute inspiration! One extra benefit she got from the training that was unexpected were the gains in mobility. She was super stiff, and could barely touch her toes. Kiera assured her that gaining strength was all well and good, but the main reason she would get stopped in training is injury. They worked on overall mobility, with Natalie progressing from barely being able to squat to being able to sit in a full squat comfortably. She's breezing through army training, with no injuries and is easily the strongest girl in her cohort, sometimes even breezing past the guys! Natalie is a inspiraiton to us all, leading the way in female empowerment and strength. We are total supporters of helping women get strong at CaliUnity, and there is no better place to go to achieve that then here, surrounded by like-minded people with the same goal. MELI Meli is a go-getter. She knows what she wants, and she goes and gets it. Exactly the type of person we love in the CaliUnity. Meli realised that she wasn't achieving her goals on her own, and she needed expert accountability to keep her going. She needed the experience of a coach who had been where she is and a community around her who shared in her struggles. When she started, she was one of the weaker members of the gym, struggling with a pushup, and the pullup was a pipe dream! Today, she can't even believe how strong she is. She can rep 20 pushups in a row, got her first pullup and is easily holding handstands! She inspires all her friends at University and is known as that "strong girl", something she would have never seen herself as. Meli says to "get started now, these guys know what they're doing and they will help you get to where you want, if I can do it, then you 100% can". 6 Taibah Taibah is super busy, balancing a PHD, job AND volunteering. She never thought she had the time for fitness. She joined a gym to "force" her to train more, but found that having an open gym with no accountability doesen't actually make you turn up. She enquired with us because "the accountability piece really set you guys apart. I need someone to help me through this, I can't do it alone". Now Taibah is absolutely smashing training, working on her first muscle up. She feels healthier than ever and her body has never felt better, with all her niggles and pains gone. But the main thing? She now works out for 30minutes 3 times a week. It used to take her 45 minutes to just walk to the gym!!! This has saved her so much time that she can put towards her busy schedule, but also she's gained energy with the training to be able to do and help more in her life. She's an inspiration to everyone around her and piece of furniture in the CaliUnity - you'll see her around alot!! yixian Yixian is one of the founding members of the CaliUnity. Yixian has had chronic shoulder pain for as long as he can remember. He's not been able to play the sports he loves, it annoys him like crazy in daily life and it just gets him down. He had been training powerliftng for years, building his squat, bench and deadlift. However, the shoulder pain never went, and though he still enjoyed weight training, he was looking for something that actually works. Yixian joined the CaliUnity after seeing the numerous testimonies of people who's shoulders have healed, along with the rest of their body. Ollie introduced calisthenics to Yixian and he has never looked back. He has progressed from 2 half pullups to easily repping 12+ l-sit pullups, hitting a muscle up (he got it yesterday from writing this) and his shoulder pain is completely fixed, and hasn't come back. He has found a solution, but above that has found a community that keeps him going, keeps him accountable and keeps him on the path to getting stronger in himself. 6 Chris Chris is a busy, busy man. Running a coffee shop and 7-figure online business, he found it extremely hard to find the time to train, saying he was "too busy" and "didn't have the time" to train. However, he got sick and tired of making excuses, and realised that the missing link of the puzzle was accountability, not inspiration. He came to us for exactly that reason - accountability. He was pushed to do the workouts, achieve his dream physique and get so much stronger than he ever thought possible. He says constantly that he wouldn't have been able to do it if it wasn't for the community, coaches and communication from the team to keep him going. He trains 3 times a week, at 30mins each. That's how long it used to take him to drive to the gym - ONE WAY! As an entrepeneur, he realises time is money, but he also understands the value of training in giving him more energy, making himself feel better and being healthy. He no longer has to choose - he now has more time for family, more time for work and has more energy during his day. Struggling to find time like Chris? We have the answer. SHAZ Shaz is a busy mum of 3, always on the go (most of the time running over to class from dropping the kids at school!). Even though Shaz is crazy busy, she always makes time for her own wellbeing. When she takes care of herself, she knows she's a inspring role model to her children. In her own words, Shaz wants to be a "fit ass old lady" and heck, she's now one of the strongest women in CaliUnity. Shaz reps pullups, is close to her first 10second handstand, her previous knee problems have gone, and she even brings her children along sometimes! 6 6 THIS ALL SOUNDS GREAT, BUT WHY TRUST US? It all sounds too good to be true, right? We'd be skeptical too, and so were our clients when they started. But the proof was undeniable, too many people have changed their lives, reversed injury and now have a love and passion to train - it's no longer hard.
