DOTNAMES Using addresses can be an obstacle to the practical application of any crypto-currency. It's obvious that a string like 0x74B8C7682e8aaf1f31739914b45bDF804c75b5d5 can be used when transferred by a computer program or through the clipboard's mechanism, but it's cumbersome in other instances. It's not possible to remember or communicate it in a human way or through media like pictures or words. Constructing a system in which participants create their aliases is straightforward. If this is the most effective solution, it is less obvious. Individuals are accustomed to creating names for their email accounts, Instagram accounts, or twitter accounts. Mot l vations! Why a Name Service? Name services were originally intended to facilitate communication between humans and machines over computer networks. Instead of using IP addresses (e.g., 127.0.0.1), users can use simple names (e.g., localhost) to refer to other users on the network. Name services are centralized and utilized by only a few individuals. In reality, they're so centralized that they essentially function as a single entity on your computer. However, as the Internet evolved, a new system was created in the 1980s called the Domain Name System (DNS). Today, DNS functions as what you recognize as .com or, more recently, domain names like .xyz. These technologies necessitate a leader who determines what names are acceptable and what they represent. Blockchain technology undermines these systems by delegating control and privacy to the community. These communities are unregulated and constructed by technologists and early adopters dedicated to decentralization. One of the earliest Bitcoin (or altcoin) bifurcations was a service called Namecoin that attempted to decentralize the DNS. However, Namecoin has experienced squatting and speculation that has rendered the blockchain nearly ineffective as a domain name service. More recently, Ethereum Name Service and Unstoppable Domains have succeeded in developing a decentralized name service. However, their approach is different from our Dotnames naming services. What’s Dotnames The primary purpose of the Dotnames name service is to translate an alphanumeric address to an alias that is user-friendly and meaningful into a Arbitrum address and vice versa. This translation should be consistent across the globe, so that all participants on the blockchain have the same address associated with an alias. A parallel that is often made is to the DNS, which is a well-known and generally-used system. It's important to recognize that DNS is a natural source of similar ideas A common alias in a DNS-inspired system would be jane.ans. Jane acquired it from the registry that manages Arbitrum, then assigned it the address of her personal wallet. When she sends James money, he will see jane.ans in his wallet's received transactions, because Jane also set up a reverse record that links her address to jane.ans. In Dotnames, your .ans name's your identity. It ’ s what you represent, whether that includes a username, a website, or more. By bringing focus, we can add utility to the .ans name that will delight our users Further integration with your favorite services (Wallets, NFT Marketplaces) gives users a simple way to track their assets while removing the anxiety of losing money because you fat- fi nger in a complicated wallet address. Those statements are talked around a lot, but few can back them up with evidence or a strategy for achieving them. Our team has a track record of achieving anything we set out to do ! We have explained the motivation for building a name service and outlined the objectives that we believe are important for success. We feel the simpli fi cation for users and wallet addresses is a unique proposition on Arbitrum. Now wallets on Arbitrum can be identi fi ed by a simple .ans extension as opposed to a 42 characters long address. We are hoping to provide value for the developer experience as well as are curious to hear from folks developing on Arbitrum, Shibarium, and Polygon chains. C oncl u sion an d O u tloo k Dotnames g oes M u ltichain We will launch our project on major E V M blockchains in order to access a broader potential of the cryptocurrency market community. Arbitrum is a vibrant ecosystem with a strong and enduring community at its core. However, since Arbitrum is not the end game for all Web 3.0 applications, but a new and upcoming blockchain, our team decided to venture into Ethereum, Shibarium, Dogechain, Polygon, Avalanche and Fantom chain to offer our product. This approach brings local investors from several chains to a common protocol and aids in the development of a strong community, making Dotnames an outstanding value-add. Arbitrum is a leading L ayer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum, offering high throughput and low transaction costs for decentralized applications. Shibarium Blockchain is a secure and decentralized network that supports transactions with the popular meme-inspired cryptocurrency, Shiba Inu. Polygon is a decentralised Ethereum scaling platform that enables developers to build scalable user- friendly dApps with low transaction fees without ever sacri fi cing on security Dogechain is a new community-driven blockchain. No V Cs, no big promises that we can't keep, such as 1 Trillion Transactions Per Second powered by a world-changing consensus algorithm. Avalanche is a next-generation blockchain platform that enables users to create and launch their own decentralized applications, create custom tokens, and build dApps with smart contracts Fantom is a fast, secure, and scalable blockchain which is E V M compatible. It allows the execution of Ethereum smart contracts and integration of Ethereum based dApps
