Bishop Dwight Reed Continues His Mission to Uplift, Empower, and Serve Des Moines Bishop Dwight Reed is not just a spiritual leader, but a compassion, hope, and change agent in Des Moines. Dwight A. Reed is also known to be kind and unswerving in his commitment to creating programs that help families, empower youth, and provide second chances to those who require them the most. His work in Christ Apostolic Temple, Inc. has been able to touch thousands of lives already each and every year. Since Bishop Dwight Reed leads the biggest predominantly African American church in Iowa, he goes way beyond the pulpit. He has always been a service-focused mission. He feels that being a leader is to be there with the people, to feed them when they are hungry, to keep them on track when they are lost, and to make an opening where none appear to be there. Under him, the outreach ministry of the church, the CATCOS, has expanded to be one of the most influential community assistance networks in the state. CATCOS operates continuous programs that provide help to individuals and families in the form of food, clothing, school supplies, and basic household needs. The weekly food pantries, senior deliveries, and collaboration with other organizations such as Costco and Walmart 360 make sure that these services are regularly supplied to the people. It is also a Toys for Tots distribution site in the church, which brings happiness to hundreds of children every season of the year. The outreach of Bishop Dwight Reed does not end with the physical needs. He knows that emotional and mental health are equally important. This is why he implemented programs like the so-called Living Above Anxiety, the weekly mental health workshop, or the program called Road to Recovery, which is a joint effort with the Iowa Department of Corrections to help people struggling with addiction to rebuild their future. He is also kind to the homeless population, and his teams have been serving hot meals and winter supplies to the camps all over the city. Through health seminars and job opportunities for the reentrant citizens, Dwight A. Reed has been able to establish bridges that bring joy to Des Moines. His work is continuing, his vision is expanding, and his presence will be experienced in the generations ahead of his time.
