Name : Sumaiya Sadbin Purni Roll No : 2015931046 Corona Outbreak in Bangladesh: Measures to Fight Back A coronavirus is the name for a large set of illnesses, including the common cold and other respiratory infections. The term “novel” coronavirus means it’s a new form of the virus. It was first detected in late December in Wuhan city, Hubei Province, China and is causing an out break of respiratory disease in countries around the world. On February 11, 2020 the World Health Organization named the disease coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19). The virus can cause pneumonia. Those who have fallen ill are reported to suffer coughs, fever and breathing difficulties. In severe cases there can be organ failure. As this is viral pneumonia, antibiotics are of no use. The antiviral drugs we have against flu will not work. Recovery depends on the strength of the immune system. Patients develop symptoms like fever, muscle and body aches, cough, and sore throat about 5-6 days after infection. Most people will feel pretty miserable for a week and get better on their own. Some people won’t get as sick, but it’s still important not to be out and about, so as not to spread the disease. A minority of patients will get worse instead of better. This usually happens after 5-7 days of illness and these patients will have more shortness of breath and worsening cough. If this happens, it’s time to contact your doctor again or even go to an emergency room. Bangladesh reported three new cases of coronavirus infection on Friday. With the new patients, the total number of COVID-19 patients across the country jumped to 20 with one case of death. All of them , including a woman, are family members of a Bangladeshi expatriate in Italy who returned home recently. A 70-year-old man also suffering from pulmonary diseases, diabetes and hypertension was the first who died in Bangladesh. The man had come in contract with a person having foreign travel history. Bangladesh on Sunday (March 8) confirmed its first three cases of coronavirus by the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).The affected people, aged between 20 and 35, include two who returned home from Italy recently, IEDCR Director Meerjady Sabrina told reporters. NOVEL corona virus cannot be prevented by single-handedly without any doubt; rather it needs the combined efforts from each and every citizen not only of Bangladesh but also everywhere who are coming to the world’s most densely populated country. Since it is already too late to take precaution for COVID- 19 in Bangladesh considering the world’s overall situation, people should have to volunteer themselves for consulting doctors who are experiencing potential symptoms of COVID-19 or are coming from the highly effected countries. Mass gathering should not be entertained in anywhere inside the country. Besides, since it is very common to see business syndicates capitalizing in Bangladesh when any disaster come our country and prices of necessary goods skyrocket. It is also seen this time too when the prices of masks, hand sanitizers are touching the sky and also there are shortage of such protective items. Common people have the tendency to store these items at home too over being over protective. It is strongly believed collaboratively novel corona virus can be plucked up sooner than later. Our government can take many steps to combat this virus. Mask is a useful equipment to fight against the virus. So, government can allocate free mask for every people. Raising awareness can be another one. From urban to rural areas, government can send medical team for testing and announcing the necessary steps. We should avoid gathering places as much as possible and government should be strict about it. Proper quarantine services should be arranged by the government officials for the infected ones. Because if the infected ones are not cured or looked after, then the chances of the number of infected people could raise with no time. If we respect and follow the measures taken by the government and take care of ourselves and our family, together we can fight this virus.
