So, here’s the thing, we do have a reporter in the room , and for the record could you [ Andrew Di Giovanna, OCPA External Affairs Manager ] please tell us why the City of Fountain Valley [Huntington Beach (HB) ] has decided to leave the OCPA ? And I’ve heard a little bit of rumblings, political... but at the same time I do want to tell you I am all over social media to include some Huntington Beach s ocial media groups. Nobody is talking about it – nobody is saying “ Oh my God, I was saving so much money, why did they get out of that program ? What are they doing over there? ” So, could you please enlighten us? Thank you. elapsed time 2:09:16 Mayor Glenn Grandis : It’s about “choice.” If you vote against this, you’re telling the residents that you’re not giving them the right to make their own decision – that you’re making the decision for them. If they want to stay with Edison, stay with Edison. It’s not a problem -- it’s one phone call. By saying that I’m not going to vote for this because it’s inconvenient to Opt Out ... [ elapsed 3me 2:09:42 ] W hat about the inconvenience for somebody like me who wants to pay $5 extra per month to get 100% green energy ? To me that’s worth it – it’s a no - brainer If you vote against (joining OCPA) you’re anf - business. Because... ( Constantine quietly protests) ... absolutely, because you’re not giving the businesses the right to save addifonal funding on their electricity. Give them the right. If they don’t want it they can stay on Edison. So, um, I, I, for me, cost savings is good, but it’s not the most importa nt reason. The most important reason is “choice” a nd if you don’t like it, stay with Edison. It’s a, i t’s basically a no - brainer. There is no way that a city signed up for [OCPA] is not part of it anymore -- and nobody’s talking about it. They were saving beaucoup bucks, were they not? Something doesn’t add up, and I , I urge my fellow city councilmembers to reconsider what I’m saying. By vofng “yes” you give the right – and if you haven’t watched Hunfngton Beach (HB) meefngs over the last two years, that alone should tell you what’s going on. There’s dissension there. I mean I’m not gonn’a pick sides or anything like that but there’s dissension. I mean , everybody knows it. So, there was, I believe not... and, and in fairness to HB when they first started there were issues with OCPA when they first started with the CEO.
