The Village Show at Keysoe THE VILLAGE SHOW AT KEYSOE 20+1 Last year we had everything in place to stage the 20 th Anniversary of The Saturday, 4th September 2021 Village Show at Keysoe. This included a forward in the schedule giving the history of the show. Sadly due to circumstances beyond KEYSOE VILLAGE HALL MK44 2JE our control, as you all know the show had to be cancelled Unfortunately since writing that piece there have been some changes in the form of losses not due to Covid 19. During 2020 we were very sad to lose 3 of our loyalist supporters since the inception of the show back in 2000. Sheila Pope was a member of the committee from the beginning and as a keen gardener and crafter, we all miss her expertise. William Ward was responsible for allowing us to use his field at the back of the village hall in 2001 and then eventually sold the field to the Parish Council at a fraction of its worth. William, I think it is safe to say, attended every show even when he was in very poor health. Gordon James not only entered every show since the beginning, both in the farmer’s clas- ses and in the fruit and vegetable classes, he also supplied the beautiful sunflowers each year to decorate the stage. All three have left a big gap. We have called this year’s show the 20+1 to mark how long we have been doing this, but also recognising that we have missed a year. The reason for this forward is to explain the show to all those who have moved into our village and are not aware of its history. Show to be opened by The original idea came from a resident who knew there had been a The Lord Lieutenant horticultural show in the village in previous years, which came to an Helen Nellis end with the out- break of WW11. An article was put into the village magazine for interested people to meet up and plan a show. We Raffle Refreshments Stalls held a plant sale to raise funds and some local businesses, and individual residents, donated trophies and prizes, and lo and be- Open to the public: 2—4pm hold we had a show. The first event was held using the village hall, the car park and one garden tent. It was so popular that the next Entry forms available from Penny Heming on 378878 year the land owner behind the village hall took down the boundary Entry forms to be submitted by 27th August 2021 with appropriate fence and allow us to use the land. This land has since become fee to: Ruth Gill, Highfield Lodge, Wybridge, Keysoe, or Penny Heming, Pump Cottage, Keysoe Row East 2 the Parish Field. We were then given money by the owner of A Fun Event for All Palmersport to purchase two large marquees. Over time we have had to replace these and also purchased more to accommodate all the exhibits. Over the years we have kept the idea of a free event Free Admission for the visitors by holding a seed sale, plant sale and latterly a jumble sale. Our original entry fee for the exhibitors has unfortunately had to be raised from 20p to 25p. Judges are sourced from here, there and everywhere and we try to change them each Staging Time: 9 – 10:45 am prompt year. Fortunately they all seem very pleased to come back after a EXHIBITS ONLY ACCEPTED BETWEEN THESE TIMES few years or judge a different class. We now have sponsorship from Open to the public: 2 – 4 pm Milton Ernest Garden Centre towards the main prizes; we get help with setting up the field from Colmworth Scouts and from many individuals for which we are very grateful.
