Feast of the Roast Lord A 5e Adventure for 1st Level Characters by Jason Wegener Feast of the Roast Lord is a one shot adventure for 1st level characters. This uses content from the Dungeons & Dragons 5e Monster Manual as well as a modified version of Gobblor the Roast Lord from DnDMemes on Facebook. Hook: The morning after sleeping at the local tavern, Alterion Browning, local gnome orchard farmer and brewmaster rushes in begging for help dealing with an enormous beast destroying his farm. He promises the adventurers 100 gold and all the wine & cider they can drink if they’ll save his farm. It is a three hour wagon ride to Browning’s farm. On the way, he regales the party of the Gnomish children’s tale of Gobblor the Roast Lord and his harrowing night. Here are the facts: ● Gnomish legend tells of a terrifying dire turkey named Gobblor the Roast Lord, an enormous beast meant to scare children away from sneaking food at feasts and celebrations. Gobblor is said to prey upon those who steal morsels before the meal is served or ruin their appetites before a celebration feast. ● Two days ago, a giant bird resembling Gobblor the Roast Lord attacked Browning’s farm, damaging his trees, destroying his pumpkin patch, and ruining his plans for a pumpkin brew. ● Browning and his farmhand Guy were able to trap the bird in his barn and used an arcane lock to keep it there. ○ Until the arcane lock is opened, Gobblor should be safely trapped in the barn. ○ Guy has the key for this lock. ○ Browning does not know the whereabouts of Guy. ● Browning and Guy decided to cook Gobblor, but Guy was using alchemy to create a magical butter and gravy mixture to weaken Gobblor enough for them to kill ● The alchemical experiment backfired, creating a smoke blast that put out every light in the house. Guy and Browning ran from the house in the dark and amidst terrifying sounds coming from the larder, which was full of potatoes. ○ Browning immediately ran to his cart and having lost Guy, escaped to town as fast as possible. ○ Browning knows there is something evil in his house. ○ Browning does not know it is a pair of mashed potato elementals. ○ Browning does not know Guy is laying dead in the cranberry bog across from the farmhouse ○ Browning does not know the magical butter splattered on Guy in the explosion animated a cranberry jelly beast in the cranberry bog. The farmland is split across the road. To the south is a flooded cranberry bog, approximately 100 feet in diameter and 3 feet deep. The surface of the water is covered in floating cranberries. Players with a passive perception of 12 or higher immediately notice the body of a gnome floating facedown in the water. Within, a cranberry jelly beast hides. Feast of the Roast Lord 1 ● The body is that of Guy Flamester, alchemist, chef, and farmhand for Browning. He is wearing a button-down shirt styled with flames, darkened spectacles still cling to his face, and his pockets contain a small knife and a magic rod- the key to the arcane lock on the bard. ● The cranberry jelly beast waits for characters to inspect the body before attacking, using surprise to its advantage. ● If it can grapple a character, it will attempt to pull them underwater and keep them there. ● The cranberry jelly beast’s cranberry sauce spray can be washed away spending an action. To the north of the road lies the rest of the farm. A humble farmhouse, approximately 60 feet across, touches the road on the western edge of the farmland. A large barn is visible behind it, with a faint blue glow about it. To the east of the farmhouse is the destroyed pumpkin patch near the road, with the rows of orchard trees behind. Many of the trees appear damaged and broken, with limbs hanging by strips of bark. The barn is 80 feet wide, with 20 foot wide sliding barn doors at the center facing the farmhouse. A small haywindow hatch is visible above the barn doors. It is closed. The house consists of four main rooms: the sitting room, the dining room, the bedroom, and the kitchen. There is a front door that leads into the sitting room and a back door that leads into the kitchen. One of the mashed potato elementals is restless and constantly moving throughout the house. The other hides on the ceiling of the larder, waiting for someone to walk past it. There are butter and gravy stains all over the floor, slug-like trails left by the elementals. ● The sitting room consists of several modest chairs, a large rug, and an unlit fireplace. There are logs in the fireplace that have been partially burned, but were put out when the explosion happened. They can be easily lit again. ● The dining room has a table and chairs. The chair nearest the kitchen has been upended. ● The kitchen has a cauldron on the stove and stinks of burned gravy and butter. There is a larder closet in the northwest corner near the door where the second elemental hides on the ceiling. There is a magically cooled metal box containing fresh vegetables. ● The door to the bedroom is closed. Browning would prefer the players do not go inside, but there are bunk beds, a chest of drawers, and many personal belongings inside. After defeating the mashed potato elementals, Browning suggests using the remains to help fight Gobblor. How the party does that is up to you. There is enough dead wood in the orchard to light a bonfire, and the cauldron can be used to boil an elemental for luring or attacking purposes. The barn is 40 feet tall, with a hayloft in the back half of the barn 10 feet from the ceiling. There is a haywindow in the front and back of the barn, 30 feet up. The barn doors are a pair of sliding doors, each ten feet wide, that slide to the side. These doors are magically reinforced while the arcane lock is in place and cannot be opened. The doors can be unlocked by pressing the key rod against the rune where they meet. Faint gobbling can be heard from within the barn, which Feast of the Roast Lord 2 becomes louder if noises are made outside. Provoking Gobblor leads it to slam into the barn doors or walls, which does nothing but make noise. After defeating Gobblor (or after waking up from the devouring frenzy nap), Browning rewards the party with the promised 100 gold and all the wine and cider they can drink. If they are kind, he also gives them Guy’s knife, with an embossed flame handle and +1 to survival (cooking) checks. The party is welcome to stay the night in the hayloft and Browning offers to take them back to town in the morning.
