Positive Ideas. New Action. About James Dalgleish - Your Scottish Labour and Co-Operative candidate for the Leith Walk ward. Leith Walk local, James Dalgleish is your Scottish Labour and Co-Operative candidate for the Council elections taking place on 5th May 2022. If elected he would stand up for our residents, fight for investment in our community and make Edinburgh a city that we can be proud to call home. James Dalgleish said, "Like you, Leith Walk is my home, and the home to three generations of my family. The issues that affect you, your friends and loved ones, affect me too. Leith Walk has been, and continues to be, affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. I have seen first hand the impact COVID-19 has had on local businesses and on people’s mental health and wellbeing. As the pandemic continues, the poverty and cost of living crisis faced by too many people in Leith Walk only worsens." If elected in May, James is committed to standing up for Leith Walk. He said, "I want to represent Leith Walk in Council, not the Council in Leith Walk. I will be a Councillor who’s focused on tackling poverty, securing quality, affordable housing, fighting for investments in our children and young people and making sure the city they will grow up in will be a clean and environmentally responsible one. and Co-Operative james.dalgleish.labour@gmail.com www.jamesdalgleish.co.uk James Dalgleish for Leith Walk @james_dalgleish jamesforleithwalk James Dalgleish We need bold action to tackle the issues in our City, for example I will support the Tourist Tax, which will bring much needed funds into Leith Walk and directly address issues from the cleanliness and state of our streets to investing in our parks and green spaces. It would be an honour and a privilege to represent Leith Walk in the city chambers. I look forward to meeting and talking to as many local residents during this campaign to set out my vision for Leith Walk." Too many properties across the ward are let out on a short term basis. If elected James would work to make sure living in Leith Walk is accessible to all. James said, "Across Leith Walk we see more and more properties being used for short term lets, particularly on Air BnB. As a result there are less properties for local people to rent, and rent prices are kept artificially high. The SNP Scottish Government have been slow to act. If elected I'll fight for the powers to regulate short term lets in our city and ensure those powers are implemented as quickly as possible. We also need more social housing available here, so local people are not priced out of living in Leith Walk. If elected I will fight for investment in quality social housing in our area." James is committed to standing up for Leith Walk and for our city. If elected he will be a strong voice for the funding and powers our city need to be a vibrant, dynamic capital and the best city to live in. James said, "Living in Leith Walk I want only the best for our area - our residents and our local businesses. If elected, I will be a strong voice for our city. I will always oppose austerity cuts to our council's budget and instead fight for investment in schools and hospitals and the powers to tackle local challenges and create high skilled, high paid jobs. There is wide spread public support across Leith Walk for investment in a public transport network and to increase investment in active travel. James said, "Edinburgh has a fantastic bus service in Lothian buses. The pandemic has had an impact on its operations and has resulted in service cuts due to driver self isolation which is completely understandable. Coming out of the pandemic we must invest in Lothian buses to ensure services continue to deliver for everyone in Leith Walk. In addition, investment must be made to decarbonise our city's bus network. If elected in May I will make the case for 10% of our city's transport budget to be allocated to active travel measures. This would mean more money for dedicated cycle and foot paths across our city."
