Dear Supporters, I would like to welcome today ’ s opponents Harrogate Railway Athletic FC Reserves for today ’ s league match which was also happened to be our first league match last season. I have been delighted with the recruitment we ’ ve had since COVID stopped the last season, just as we started to make progress after a poor start to the season following our relegation from Division 1 and with a loss of near en- tire squad, we managed to reaching Quarter finals of Cup knocking out Glasshoughton Rock the previous round, but both weather and COVID put a stop to that. It ’ s disappointed that during the lock down we had local youth damage our dug outs, which resulted in us having to knock them down. It ’ s a cost that the club could not afford really with new one fabricated costing near £3000, but the great people of Howden Clough and Birstall and beyond donated a whopping £1500 to start us back on track. We have plans to try and push this club up the division, and that includes the ground faculties, but we know we are una- ble to do anything in fear of being vandalised. The New Season ............... This season has seen a lost of some players due to various reasons, players like Sam Epsey and Brandon Powell who moved back to Doncaster having finishing their University degrees whom will be a big miss, but with new players joining this season I feel the squad has a better feel about it and depth which has seen numerous players stepping up from the U17 team into open age bracket. This is something I want to encourage at this club, bringing in the youth so they play with more senior players to gain experience. With 3 games and 3 defeats I can take many posi- tives as we play very well with the early league leaders Kellingley playing the last 30 min with only 10 men, due to injuries and subs used. A two close defeat followed away at Laund Hill and Old Centurions only losing both games by the odd goal, so there is much to take away, we just need to take our chances and I ’ m sure the results will follow. Finally I would like to finish off saying I hope you enjoy today ’ s game and look forward to see- ing you again cheering on the mighty Clough, and stay safe during these unprecedented times. Marko 5 From the touchline — Assistant 1st Team Manager Mark Maguire Afternoon all, It ’ s great to be here at Clough and I ’ ve warmly been welcomed back after my 5 years away with Birstall Rovers Junior Football Club. Though I am unable to pass comment on last season, all I can say is that all the lads are looking sharp and seem to taken on board the new training that the coaching staff have im- plemented. We ’ ve had a great pre season with regular numbers between 20 - 30 lads at every session despite the COVID lockdown. The style of play, focus, game management have all been on show and sug- gests strongly, that the lads have been able to take what has been asked of them on the training ground, into a game situation. Next step, Can we take it into a competitive match? We are a young squad, and all I can ask is that our players are brave enough to stick to the philosophy and build upon it. We need to compete in every game, and if do so with the talent within the group, winning is the bonus and lets see where this takes us. Losing isn ’ t failure!!! Not improving, repeating the same errors and not competing is Failure! Let ’ s enjoy our football, onwards and upwards — up the Clough! Harrogate Railway as a club will be celebrating their 85th Anniversary and we would like to wish them all best for the forth coming season. More know for their 1st team exploits Harrogate Railway been quite successful in years including an impressive run to the FA Cup 2nd round two times 2002/03 and 2007/08 with a record crowd watched the 2002 tie against Bristol City (3500 in attendance) going down 1 - 3 against Football League opponents, this was followed in 2007 losing 2 - 3 at home to Mansfield Town. But recent years have seen the 1st team slip from Northern Premier League down to North East Counties Division 1. But I ’ m sure they will be look- ing to bounce back up the league as soon as possible. Honours also include : Northern Counties East League: Division One champions 1998 – 99 Division Two North champions 1983 – 84 League Cup winners 1986 – 87 Presidents Cup winners 2002 – 03 West Yorkshire League — Champions 1953 – 54 British Railways National Cup — Winners 1945 – 46 HRAFC Res came into the West Yorkshire League Division 2 last season (2019/20) and funny enough were our first opponents last year, with the visitors running out victors with a 1 - 4 win despite going a behind to an early goal from Clough ’ s Simon Moore, goals coming from Cameron Whalley, Thomas Warrington and a brace from Bailey Smithies Harrogate had the pleasure of driving back up the M1 with all 3 points. Unfor- tunately as mentioned no return fixture was able to be played out due to the COVID Pandemic. Ones to Watch from this Season : Captain : Jack Pickford Goal scorer: Matthew Allsop 9 HRAFC Res 20/21 Player Stats 10 Well the weekend is here at last. After 3 games on the road , with some good performances and some not, it great to be able to have a home game. Training on a Wednesday night has gone well, with players looking to push from the Reserves to the 1st team, keeping us all on our toes, but also it ’ s great to see some new players joining and some old players coming back . This year we want to make this place a fortress and make it hard for teams that come here to play. We don ’ t want them to enjoy coming and if we want to make it a place where we pick up a lot of the points this season, I think we should be able to carry this onto our away games. A good home record obviously helps towards getting where we all want to be at the end of the season whilst can put you in a strong position With some new face ’ s in the squad, I ’ m looking forward to getting down to the real action. I hope to see a few fans down to cheer us on, and then back to the Greyhound for a pint after.
