Introduction to Programming Using JAVA. 700 pages. The first programming course at Hobart and William Smith Colleges covers the Java programming language. Since 1996, the textbook for the course has been this Java textbook that was written for the course. The current version 2009 is Introduction to Programming Using Java, Version 6.0. It requires Java 5.0 or higher. It is an introduction to programming and also an introduction to Java directed towards people who do not have any background in programming, although it might also be useful for experienced programmers who want to learn something about Java. It is certainly not meant to provide complete coverage of the Java language. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: David J. Eck, Ph.D. in Mathematics (Brandeis University, 1980) is working as a teacher and instructor at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

Comunicación, política y desarrollo aborda una variedad de objetos de estudio, enfoques y metodologías utilizadas en el campo de los estudios de la comunicación en nuestra región. Las propuestas pretenden incorporar nuevos enfoques provenientes de múltiples disciplinas asociados a la comunicación desde una perspectiva crítica. A la vez, este compilado busca entender la comunicación no de manera instrumental, sino como un proceso complejo de significación social e interacción, con implicaciones políticas, tecnológicas, sociales y culturales. En este sentido, la Serie Estudios de la Comunicación, de la cual este libro es parte, busca fomentar la discusión, el debate y la producción científica desde diferentes ángulos o perspectivas, que conlleven a la resolución de problemas a través de la investigación aplicada o el desarrollo de ensayos teóricos que fortalezcan investigaciones de comunicación desde perspectivas transdisciplinarias.

Crystallography remains, for mineralogy, one of the main sources of information on natural crystalline substances. A description of mineral species shape is carried out according to the principles of geometric crystallography; the crystal structure of minerals is determined using X-ray crystallography techniques, and physical crystallography approaches allow one to evaluate various properties of minerals, etc. However, the reverse comparison should not be forgotten as well: the crystallography science, in its current form, was born in the course of mineralogical research, long before preparative chemistry received such extensive development. It is worth noting that, even today, investigations of crystallographic characteristics of minerals regularly open up new horizons in materials science, because the possibilities of nature (fascinating chemical diversity; great variation of thermodynamic parameters; and, of course, almost endless processing time) are still not available for reproduction in any of the world's laboratories. This Special Issue is devoted to mineralogical crystallography, the oldest branch of crystallographic science, and aims to combine important surveys covering topics indicated in the keywords below.
