Jacob Wackernagel’s 1892 essay on second-position enclitics in the Indo-European languages has long been hailed as groundbreaking in both historical and theoretical linguistics. Until now, however, it has only been available in the original German. This book provides a full translation into English, including glossed and translated examples from several early Indo-European languages and varieties and full bibliographical details of the references drawn upon, as well as a new edition of the German original. It should be of interest to researchers in historical and Indo-European linguistics and in general linguistics working on the interfaces between morphology, prosody and syntax.

This volume includes the elaborated papers and discussions of a conference held at Würzburg on Austrian ‚Neoabsolutism‘ (1849/51-1860/61). Starting point was the recent criticism of that term to identify the Austrian type of postrevolutionary government and to mark a historical period. The experts assembled at Würzburg focussed their analysis on the various fields of domestic policy in that ambiguous decade and tried to evaluate its importance within the long-term problems of the Hapsburg Monarchy.Der Band enthält die Referate und Diskussionen einer in Würzburg abgehaltenen Tagung über strittige Probleme des Neoabsolutismus als Herrschaftstypus und Epochenbegriff. Over the past few decades, a growing number of studies have highlighted the importance of the ‘School of Salamanca’ for the emergence of colonial normative regimes and the formation of a language of normativity on a global scale. According to this influential account, American and Asian actors usually appear as passive recipients of normative knowledge produced in Europe. This book proposes a different perspective and shows, through a knowledge historical approach and several case studies, that the School of Salamanca has to be considered both an epistemic community and a community of practice that cannot be fixed to any individual place. Instead, the School of Salamanca encompassed a variety of different sites and actors throughout the world and thus represents a case of global knowledge production. Readership: All interested in the legal history, the history of knowledge, book history and history of philosophy and theology in early modern times, especially with regard to colonial Ibero-America and Asia.

The book sets out to reconstruct why and how poetry and prose came to meet and mix in Italy between the second half of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century; contrary to what has taken place in France for the petit pome en prose, there has been no overall mapping of the Italian sphere to give refreshed sense to single phenomena. The author begins to fill this gap by looking at three areas of research: the Scapigliatura movement, the experimentations of the last two decades of the nineteenth century (from Ragusa Moleti to Pica, Deledda to Capuana), and «La Voce» 1908-1913. Two works are constantly used as inevitable points of reference: Operette morali by Leopardi and Petits pomes en prose by Baudelaire.

3D printing is rapidly emerging as a key manufacturing technique that is capable of serving a wide spectrum of applications, ranging from engineering to biomedical sectors. Its ability to form both simple and intricate shapes through computer-controlled graphics enables it to create a niche in the manufacturing sector. Key challenges remain, and a great deal of research is required to develop 3D printing technology for all classes of materials including polymers, metals, ceramics, and composites. In view of the growing importance of 3D manufacturing worldwide, this Special Issue aims to seek original articles to further assist in the development of this promising technology from both scientific and technological perspectives. Targeted reviews, including mini-reviews, are also welcome, as they play a crucial role in educating students and young researchers.

This Special Issue of Crystals contains papers focusing on various properties of conducting ceramics. Multiple aspects of both the research and application of this group of materials have been addressed. Conducting ceramics are the wide group of mostly oxide materials which play crucial roles in various technical applications, especially in the context of the harvesting and storage of energy. Without ion-conducting oxides, such as yttria-stabilized zirconia, doped ceria devices such as solid oxide fuel cells would not exist, not to mention the wide group of other ion conductors which can be applied in batteries or even electrolyzers, besides fuel cells. The works published in this Special Issue tackle experimental results as well as general theoretical trends in the field of ceramic conductors, or electroceramics, as it is often referred to.

Childhood is a crucial period for establishing lifelong healthy nutritional habits. The environment has an important influence on children’s dietary intake. This book focuses on the influence of environmental factors on the dietary intake of children and adolescents (0–18 years of age) within various settings including home, early care and education, school, college, holiday clubs, neighborhoods, and supermarkets. The reported studies examine a variety of factors within these settings, including the influence of cooking and parenting, teacher style, resources and barriers within various settings, marketing, and many other factors. The dietary intake behaviors examined include snacking, fruit and vegetable intake, beverage intake, and also nutrition in general. In addition, several papers focus on problems caused by inadequate nutrition, such as hunger and obesity. This work underlines the importance of the environment in influencing children’s and adolescents’ dietary intake. In addition, the papers identified some crucial barriers and facilitators for the implementation of environmental changes to enable a healthy diet for young children. Therefore, it provides some important directions for both future research and practice.

Im Mai 2006 wurde die Provinz Yogyakarta (Java, Indonesien) von einem Erdbeben erschüttert. Im Rahmen des Projektes wurden Gebäudeschäden im Katastrophengebiet untersucht und eine detaillierte Datenerhebung der Schadensarten an Bauwerken vorgenommen. Die Ergebnisse der Untersuchungen wurden im Hinblick auf die Widerstandsfähigkeit der Gebäude gegen dynamische Beanspruchungen zu vereinfachten Regeln für eine erdbebensichere Konstruktion von nicht-ingenieurmäßigen Bauwerken zusammengefasst.

The thesis deals with the question of why no international legally binding instrument for forest policy exists so far. The thesis shows that the problem definition presents a form of control for the decision making process and for the problem solution. Therefore, it is demonstrated how locations, reports and non-human objects are related to the development of international forest policy within United Nations. In the development of international forest policy, the policy problem was framed as "deforestation and degradation of tropical forests". In the second phase of policy formulation, the "deforestation and degradation of all forests" moves to the centre of interests. The thesis analyses furthermore the formation of meaning of the policy narratives that are intertwined with international forest policy.The identification of global environmental discourses that transfer a certain kind of meaning of policy and of problem solution, that operate with discursive practices and technologies of power, and that use rhetorical devices, allows to show which rules and practices influence how natural resource policy arises. In this way it can be shown how policy problems come into being and how they are understood. Furthermore, it allows identifying policy change in a non-decision-making process.Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Frage warum kein international rechtlich verbindliches Instrument zur Frage der Waldpolitik verabschiedet wurde. Sie zeigt wie die Definition des Politikproblems eine Form der Kontrolle für den Entscheidungsfindungsprozess und die damit verbundene Problemlösung darstellt. Folglich wird demonstriert wie Orte, Berichte und nicht-menschliche Objekte mit der Entstehung der internationalen Waldpolitik im Rahmen der Vereinten Nationen verbunden sind. Während in der Entstehungsphase der internationalen Waldpolitik das eigentliche Politikproblem als "Entwaldung und Degradierung des Tropenwaldes" verstanden wird, rückt in der zweiten Phase der Politikformulierung die "Entwaldung und Degradierung aller Wälder" in den Blickpunkt des internationalen Interesses. Weiters legt die Arbeit die bedeutungsbildenden Elemente der Policy-Narrative, die mit der internationalen Waldpolitik verwoben sind, offen. Die Identifikation von globalen Umweltdiskursen, die ein bestimmtes Politik- bzw. Problemlösungsverständnis transportieren, die mittels diskursiver Praktiken und Machttechnologien operieren und die rhetorische Mittel - wie z.B. die apokalyptische Vorstellung der Übernutzung - zum Einsatz bringen, erlaubt zu erkennen, welche Regeln und Praktiken sich auf die Art und Weise, wie die Politik der natürlichen Ressourcen entsteht, auswirken. Sie zeigt, wie Policy-Probleme entstehen und wie sie verstanden werden und erlaubt Policy-Wandel, der sich in einer Nicht-Entscheidung vollzieht, zu identifizieren. Der Rolle der Sprache wird folglich besondere Aufmerksamkeit zuteil.
