Since the 5th century b. c., archaistic figures were used as a pillar for the statues of Aphrodite and later sometimes also for other gods. The question of design and interpretation is topic of this work. The characteristics of gods were always shown in their body image and posture. To that effect Aphrodite was pictured in a casual and sensual way with a very feminine body shape. The archaistic pillar could be a way to show that nevertheless Aphrodite was a venerable goddess.Ein altes Rätsel in den Diskussionen um die Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten klassischer Götterbilder ist die Frage nach dem Sinn der archaistischen Figuren, die seit dem späteren 5. Jahrhundert v. Chr. v. a. Aphrodite und später in geringerer Zahl auch anderen Göttern als Stützen dienten sowie die Deutung dieses Bildmotivs insgesamt. Die Bilder fügen sich in die klassische Darstellungsweise der Götter ein, bei der ihre Wirkungsweise und ihr Charakter durch ihr Körperbild und ihre Körperhaltung zum Ausdruck gebracht wurden. Aphroditewurde dementsprechend als möglichst lässig und sinnlich mit betont weiblichen Körperformen gezeigt. Die starke Veränderung des Körperbildes der Göttin in der klassischen Kunst legt die Möglichkeit nahe, in ihren Bildern darauf hinzuweisen, dass sie zugleich auch eine altehrwürdige Göttin mit langer Kulttradition war. Dies wurde symbolisch durch die Verbindung der zeitgenössischen Darstellung mit einem alten Bild in Gestalt eines archaistischen Stützidols ausgedrückt. Auch in der Realität lassen sich zahlreiche griechische Heiligtümer nachweisen, für die mehre mögliche Kultbilder aus unterschiedlichen Zeiten überliefert sind, die zugleich verschiedenen Bedürfnissen des Kultes gerecht wurden.

This book is dedicated to the use of nanomaterials for the modification of asphalt binders, and to investigate whether or not the use of nanomaterials for asphalt mixtures fabrication achieves more effective asphalt pavement layers. A total of 10 contributions are included. Four are related to “Binder’s modification” and five to “Asphalt mixtures’ modification”. The remaining contribution is a review of the effects of the modifications on nanomaterials, particularly nanosilica, nanoclays and nanoiron, on the performance of asphalt mixtures. The published group of papers fosters awareness about the use of nanomaterials to modify asphalt mixtures to obtain more performant and durable flexible road pavements.
