Perspectives on Business and Management

CC BY

With a more holistic view of the interrelationships between individuals, markets and the larger economy, leaders can make more informed decisions. Understanding past trends in light of today's particular challenges, a wider knowledge of economics also allows business leaders to create more persuasive arguments when attempting to affect positive change within an organization. Since the turn of the century, emerging markets have dramatically increased their role on the world stage, the digital revolution has strengthened, social networks have become a decisive force also in business and the voice of the people has reinvented markets and overturned governments, a sharing economy has been born, scientific advances have changed our lives and so on. All these issues and processes pose a huge challenge for leaders, and some are tackled in this book.

Things to Keep in Mind if You Attend Swinger Parties.pdf

LENOVO

It is natural for people to be interested in swingers' events, as it happens in all countries. People interested in these things have as much right to enjoy this lifestyle, only that most of them are still far too shy and worry too much unnecessarily: fear of the new, of being judged. People who come to the swinger parties are primarily young couples who come to the club, between 30 and 40 years old, but also quite a few between 40 and 45, educated, well-mannered people. Not all of these people have practiced swing before. https://www.swingtowns.com/

Improving outcomes in cerebral palsy with early intervention: new translational approaches

CC BY

The aim of this Research Topic was to collate articles describing prediction of outcomes of pre- and perinatal lesions leading to cerebral palsy, basic research in animal models and human subjects, and ideas for, and trials of, interventions in the first two years of life.CP arises from insults to the sensorimotor cortex, subcortical axon tracts and subplate. The aetiology is complex and often multifactorial. The outcome is not simply a loss of voluntary control due to disruption of descending pathways, but also involves abnormal development of reflex and corticospinal circuitry. CP may be viewed as aberrant plasticity in response to a lesion, indeed, abnormalities in movement are subtle at first but develop subsequently. It is misleading to suppose that developmental mechanisms are self-reparative. The challenge is to understand activitydependent fine tuning of neural circuitry during normal development and to find how to promote desirable plasticity whilst limiting undesirable effects following developmental lesions. However, before proposing interventions, we have to develop our ability to predict the severity of neonatal insults. We solicited a variety of articles, including long and short reviews, original research and opinion pieces, from both basic scientists and clinicians. Likewise we, as editors, have complementary knowledge and experience in this area. Anna Basu is an academic pediatric neurologist and Gavin Clowry is a developmental neuroscientist.

Advances in Genomics and Epigenomics of Social Insects

CC BY

Social insects are among the most successful and ecologically important animals on earth. The lifestyle of these insects has fascinated humans since prehistoric times. These species evolved a caste of workers that in most cases have no progeny. Some social insects have worker sub-castes that are morphologically specialized for discrete tasks. The organization of the social insect colony has been compared to the metazoan body. Males in the order Hymenoptera (bees, ants and wasps) are haploid, a situation which results in higher relatedness between female siblings. Sociality evolved many times within the Hymenoptera, perhaps spurred in part by increased relatedness that increases inclusive fitness benefits to workers cooperating to raise their sisters and brothers rather than reproducing themselves. But epigenetic processes may also have contributed to the evolution of sociality. The Hymenoptera provide opportunities for comparative study of species ranging from solitary to highly social. A more ancient clade of social insects, the termites (infraorder Isoptera) provide an opportunity to study alternative mechanisms of caste determination and lifestyles that are aided by an array of endosymbionts. This research topic explores the use of genome sequence data and genomic techniques to help us explore how sociality evolved in insects, how epigenetic processes enable phenotypic plasticity, and the mechanisms behind whether a female will become a queen or a worker.

Wound Repair and Regeneration

CC BY

Wound healing plays an integral part of cellular and molecular events. Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a lipid mediator that promotes angiogenesis and cell proliferation and attracts immune cells. S1P plays a role in skin wound healing by altering the expression of its biogenic enzyme, sphingosine kinase-1 (SphK1). SphK1 overexpression also leads to less scarring through transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 and S1P receptor-2 (S1PR2). IFN-γ might be involved in the proliferation and maturation stages of wound healing through the regulation of neutrophilic inflammatory responses in IFN--deficient (KO) mice. Topical recombinant human (rh)-growth hormone (GH) accelerated pressure ulcer (PU) healing in non-obese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficient mice engrafted with a full-thickness human skin graft model. Matrisome properties of scaffolds that direct fibroblasts in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and liver regeneration are enhanced by hepatocyte-derived angiogenesis via B-cell CLL/lymphoma/nuclear factor-kappa B signaling. Mechanisms of autologous adipose-derived stem cells in some patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), treated by highly active antiretroviral therapy, are elucidated. The cloning and identification of thymosin (Pa-THYs) from Periplaneta americana, the American cockroach, suggest that this molecule could be a potential drug for promoting wound repair. Maresins (MaRs) and macrophages are reviewed, focusing on the potent action of MaRs in the enhancement of M2 macrophage phenotypic profiles to possibly alleviate inflammatory pain.

Recent Changes in Drug Abuse Scenario: The Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS) Phenomenon

CC BY-NC-ND

In parallel with a decrease/stabilization in the use of internationally controlled drugs, the market of novel psychoactive substances (NPS) continues increasing, year after year, with the Internet playing a pivotal role in contributing to this complex scenario. At times, although misleading, the terms ‘legal highs’ or ’research chemicals’ have been used to describe these molecules. Overall, about 5% of 19–24-year-old European people have already experimented with them, because both NPS’ intense psychoactive effects and their virtual non-detectability in routine drug screenings. Although ‘novel’ typically refers to molecules that have recently become a reason of current/potential public health concern, at times, the NPS scenario may indeed focus on pharmaceutical molecules. These may have either not entered the market, or are currently prescribed, with their potential for misuse resulting from the relating high dosages/idiosyncratic ways of self-administration. A concurrent use of a range of different NPS, and/or medications, is frequently being reported and this may be a reason of further clinical complications. Given their complex pharmacodynamics, there are increasing levels of concern about the onset of acute/chronic psychopathological associated with NPS intake. This Special Issue aims at providing an overview of a range of NPS-related issues, e.g., preclinical, epidemiological, and clinical pharmacological; the medical and psychopathological consequences associated with their intake; and, finally, the analytical chemistry and forensic analysis challenges associated with the NPS phenomenon.

Indonesia in a Reforming World Economy: Effects on Agriculture, Trade and the Environment

CC BY

In the mid-1990s a joint research project was established between CASER (Bogor), CIES (Adelaide), CSIS ( Jakarta) and RSPAS (at ANU, Canberra) to examine interactions between agriculture, trade and the environment in Indonesia.Funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR Project No. 9449), the specific objective of the project was to assess the production, consumption, trade, income distributional, regional, environmental, and welfare eff ects in Indonesia of structural and policy changes at home and abroad. Particular attention was to be paid to those structural and policy changes that could aff ect Indonesia’s agricultural sector over the next 5-10 years. The implications of national and global economic growth, of regional and multilateral trade liberalisation initiatives, and of Indonesia’s ongoing unilateral policy reforms were the initial focus of the study. However, with the onslaught of the financial crisis that began in the latter part of 1997, the project leaders added that issue to the research agenda.

The work of a web designer is often associated with creating visually attractive — Subraa.pdf

Subraa

The role of a web designer is often associated with creating visually appealing and userfriendly websites, but their impact goes far beyond aesthetics. A skilled web designer can significantly influence a website’s search engine optimization (SEO), directly affecting its visibility on search engines. Whether working independently or as part of a web design company, a web designer’s work plays a critical role in enhancing SEO through structure, speed, and mobile responsiveness. Site Structure and Navigation A well-organized site structure is essential for both users and search engines. An experienced web designer ensures that pages are logically organized and easy to navigate, creating an intuitive flow that guides users effortlessly from one page to another. Search engines, particularly Google, consider user experience as a ranking factor, and a clear, structured layout can help boost your SEO. Proper internal linking, well-defined menus, and accessible content make it easier for search engines to crawl and index the site, which can lead to better rankings. Page Speed Optimization Page loading speed is another critical SEO factor. Users tend to abandon slow websites, which negatively affects bounce rates and user satisfaction — two metrics that search engines track. A professional web designer ensures that images are optimized, code is clean, and unnecessary elements are removed, all of which contribute to faster load times. A web design company might also implement caching techniques and optimize hosting settings to further enhance speed. Faster loading times improve user experience, reduce bounce rates, and send positive signals to search engines, enhancing SEO. Mobile Responsiveness With more people using mobile devices to browse the web, having a mobile-friendly website is crucial. Google’s mobile-first indexing prioritizes mobile versions of websites in search results, making it essential for web designers to create responsive designs that look great on all devices. A skilled web designer will ensure that your website’s layout, images, and text are adaptive and accessible, offering a seamless experience on smartphones, tablets, and desktops alike. By creating a responsive site, a web designer not only improves the site’s usability but also aligns it with SEO best practices. Clean Code and SEO-Friendly Elements The underlying code of a website can impact its SEO. A web designer understands how to use SEO-friendly HTML tags, including header tags, alt text for images, and meta descriptions, which help search engines understand and rank the site content. Many web design companies employ web designers who know how to implement clean, wellstructured code that is easy for search engines to crawl, which can positively influence SEO. User Engagement and Dwell Time User experience is becoming increasingly important in SEO. When users enjoy a site’s design and find it easy to use, they’re more likely to stay longer and engage with the content. This increased dwell time signals to search engines that the site is valuable, which can lead to better rankings. A talented web designer knows how to create layouts and designs that encourage interaction, whether through easy-to-find call-to-action buttons, readable fonts, or engaging visuals. In conclusion, a web designer contributes significantly to SEO by creating an optimized site structure, enhancing loading speeds, ensuring mobile responsiveness, and using SEOfriendly coding practices. When a business invests in a reputable web design company, they’re not just investing in an attractive website — they’re also investing in a site optimized for better search engine performance. By understanding and implementing these SEO principles, web designers in Singapore help businesses improve their online presence, increase traffic, and ultimately reach their digital goals.
