Das russisch-deutsche Wörterbuch von Pawlowsky, das erstmals 1859 in Riga erschien, ist ein in der Slavistik bisher wenig beachtetes Juwel. Dies ist gerade deshalb erstaunlich, weil es ein unentbehrliches Hilfsmittel bei der Lektüre der russischen Klassiker darstellt, seine Bilinguität authentisch und bis in die naturwissenschaftliche Nomenklatur hinein recht zuverlässig ist und außerdem eine ganze Menge von Idiomatischem und Proverbialem nicht nur verzeichnet, sondern auch erklärt. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, durch eine metalexikographische Einzelanalyse dieses Werks einen Beitrag zur Geschichte der russisch-deutschen Lexikographie zu leisten. Das jahrhundertealte Desinteresse an den Resultaten lexikographischer Arbeiten erklärt auch, daß das russisch-deutsche Wörterbuch von Iwan Pawlowsky, bis zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt als terra incognita betrachtet werden muß. This open access book presents and analyzes the results of more than 30 years of long-term ecological research in riparian forest ecosystems with the aim of casting light on changes in the dynamics of riparian forests over time. The research, focusing on the Ooyamazawa riparian forest, one of the remaining old-growth forests in Japan, has yielded a number of interesting outcomes. First, it shows that large-scale disturbances afford various trees opportunities for regeneration and are thus the driving force for the coexistence of canopy trees in riparian forests. Second, it identifies changes in reproductive patterns, highlighting that seed production has in fact quantitatively increased over the past two decades. Third, it describes the decline in forest floor vegetation caused by deer grazing and reveals how this decline has affected bird and insect populations. The book illustrates the interconnectedness of phenomena within an ecosystem and the resultant potential for cascade effects and also stresses the need for long-term ecological studies of climate change impacts on forests. It will be of interest to both professionals and academics in the field of forest science.

Applying the theoretical lens of organizational institutionalism, this study analyzes the spread of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Austrian corporate world. The objectives are threefold: First, to explore the institutional framework in place; second, to explain the dissemination of CSR in terms of adopters’ characteristics and field-level pressures; and third, to understand the structuring dimensions of meaning within the CSR discourse. The findings demonstrate that a specific sub-population is more inclined to espouse commitment to CSR policies. Against the background of an ambiguous nature and definition of CSR, this study also shows how actor categories and divergent thematic embeddings serve as a basis for the concept’s theorization, and elaborates on a distinct constellation of empirical sub-discourses.

The Museum of Natural History of the University of Florence, founded in 1775 by the Grand Duke Peter Leopold, is the oldest scientific museum in Europe. Firenze University Press opens the series dealing with the six sections of the Museum with this book on La Specola, situated in Palazzo Torrigiani, which represented the original nucleus. The articles in the first section reconstruct the historic background, the foundation of La Specola and the genesis and development of the collections.
