Seasonal Pet Grooming Essential Tips for Winter and Summer Care— The Pets Workshop.pdf

When the seasons change, so do the grooming needs of our pets. Whether you’re a pet owner or a professional in the pet grooming Singapore business, understanding how to adjust your grooming routines for winter and summer is crucial for keeping pets healthy and comfortable year-round. Winter Grooming Tips Winter brings cold weather and, often, more time spent indoors. This season can be particularly challenging for pets with thick coats or those that are prone to matting. Here are some winter-specific pet grooming tips: Brush Regularly: Regular brushing is essential in winter to prevent mats and tangles, especially for long-haired breeds. Matting can lead to skin irritations and infections, which are more difficult to treat in cold weather. Protect the Paws: Cold weather, snow, and ice can be harsh on your dog’s paws. Consider using a paw balm to prevent cracking and always rinse their paws after walks to remove salt and chemicals used to melt ice. Limit Baths: While maintaining cleanliness is important, frequent baths can strip your pet’s coat of essential oils during winter. Use a moisturizing shampoo and limit baths to once a month unless your pet gets particularly dirty. Dry Thoroughly: Ensure your pet is completely dry after a bath to prevent them from getting cold. Use a blow dryer on a low, warm setting, and make sure the environment is warm during the drying process. Summer Grooming Tips Summer brings heat, humidity, and more outdoor activities, which require a different approach to pet grooming Singapore. Here are some summer grooming tips to keep your pet cool and comfortable: Regular Baths: Increased outdoor time can lead to more dirt and sweat. Regular baths, about every two weeks, can help keep your pet clean. Use a gentle shampoo suitable for frequent use. Haircuts: For breeds with long hair, a shorter summer cut can help keep them cool. However, be careful not to cut too short as their coat also protects them from sunburn and insect bites. Brush Frequently: Shedding increases in the summer as pets lose their winter coats. Regular brushing helps remove loose fur and prevents overheating. Hydration and Skin Care: Ensure your pet stays hydrated and check their skin regularly for signs of dehydration, such as dry nose or sunken eyes. Apply pet-safe sunscreen to areas with less fur, like the nose and ears. Adjusting your pet grooming routine Singapore according to the season not only enhances your pet’s comfort but also their health. Winter requires protection against the cold and prevention of mats, while summer calls for measures to keep your pet cool and clean. Whether you’re focusing on dog grooming or general pet grooming, these seasonal tips can help ensure your furry friend remains happy and healthy all year long. Remember, a well- groomed pet is a happy pet, no matter the season. Groom here: https://www.thepetsworkshop.com.sg/

La valutazione del capitale intellettuale

CC BY-NC-ND

Intellectual capital is gaining in importance over the years, evolving from a "needed to win" resource, necessary to control the market, into a "needed to play" resource, namely an essential element for the survival of the firm. This evolution has led to innovations in accounting concepts, methods and tools. This work offers a critical analysis of the main methods and tools for the evaluation of the intellectual capital, of the potentials and limits of the various evaluation models proposed by the doctrine and the practice. A business case study completes the book.

Homo militaris

CC BY-NC-ND

On the Legacy of Lutheranism in Finland

CC BY-NC-ND

This volume analyses the societal legacy of Lutheranism in Finland in broad terms. It contributes to the recent renewed interest in the history of religion in Finland and the Nordic countries by bringing together researchers in history, political science, economics, social psychology, education, linguistics, media studies, and theology to examine the mutual relationship between Lutheranism and society in Finland. The two main foci are (i) the historical effects of the Reformation and its aftermath on societal structures and on national identity, values, linguistic culture, education, and the economy, and (ii) the adaptation of the church – and its theology – to changes in the geo-political and sociocultural context. Important sub-themes include nationalism and religion, the secularization and institutionalization of traditional values, multiple Protestant ethics, and long continuities in history. Overall the book argues that large changes in societies cannot be explained via ‘secular’ factors alone, such as economic development or urbanization, but that factors pertaining to religion provide substantial explanatory power for understanding societal change and the resulting societal structures.

Business, Open Innovation and Art

CC BY

After its predecessors turned humans and organizations into machines, the Fourth Industrial Revolution is turning machines into humans. As digital machines acquire more and more cognitive intelligence, the development of humans becomes ever more vital, for society and business alike. Time has come to recognize the value of art and humanities. As the world experiences massive turbulence and companies find their “whitewater” environment increasingly complex to navigate, the 20th-Century mantras of efficiency, the bottom-line and shareholder value no longer suffice as proper guidance. New futures call for anticipatory creativity. Channeling inventiveness, aesthetics and a sense of meaning, art can be a powerful tool to catalyze innovation and transformation, helping companies (re)discover their compass, create new rafts to conquer the rapids, and find “blue ocean” market spaces in new world realities. Authored by multidisciplinary contributors brought together by editors BeiBei Song and Piero Formica, “Business, Open Innovation and Art” reflects a New Renaissance movement to revive humanness in the age of AI and harmony between man and nature. The research, case studies and experiments demonstrate a rich, multidimensional relationship between art and business, be it artistic strategies and processes, artful leadership, or art thinking for radical innovation. In this crucial phase of history, this book serves to advance the fundamental role of art and humanities, together with science and economics, for sustainable human enterprise.

Critical Earthquake Response of Elastic-Plastic Structures Under Near-Fault or Long-Duration Ground Motions: Closed-Form Approach via Impulse Input

Izuru Takewaki

CC BY

The specialty section Earthquake Engineering is one branch of Frontiers in Built Environment and welcomes critical and in-depth submissions on earthquake ground motions and their effects on buildings and infrastructures. Manuscripts should yield new insights and ultimately contribute to a safer and more reliable design of building structures and infrastructures. The scope includes the characterization of earthquake ground motions (e.g. near-fault, far-fault, short-period, long-period), their underlying properties, their intrinsic relationship with structural responses, and the true behaviors of building structures and infrastructures under risky and uncertain ground motions. More specific topics include recorded ground motions, generated ground motions, response spectra, stochastic modeling of ground motion, critical excitation, geotechnical aspects, soil mechanics, soil liquefaction, soil-structure interactions, pile foundations, earthquake input energy, structural control, passive control, active control, base-isolation, steel structures, reinforced concrete structures, wood structures, building retrofit, structural optimization, uncertainty analysis, robustness analysis, and redundancy analysis. This eBook includes four original research papers, in addition to the Specialty Grand Challenge article, on the critical earthquake response of elastic-plastic structures under near-fault or long-duration ground motions which were published in the specialty section Earthquake Engineering. In the early stage of dynamic nonlinear response analysis of structures around 1960s, a simple hysteretic structural model and a simple sinusoidal earthquake ground motion input were dealt with together with random inputs. The steady-state response was tackled by an equivalent linearization method developed by Caughey, Iwan and others. In fact, the resonance plays a key role in the earthquake-resistant design and it has a strong effect even in case of near-fault ground motions. In order to draw the steady-state response curve and investigate the resonant property, two kinds of repetition have to be introduced. One is a cycle, for one forced input frequency, of the initial guess of the steady-state response amplitude, the construction of the equivalent linear model, the analysis of the steady-state response amplitude using the equivalent linear model and the update of the equivalent linear model based on the computed steady-state response amplitude. The other is the sweeping over a range of forced input frequencies. This process is quite tedious. Four original research papers included in this eBook propose a new approach to overcome this difficulty. Kojima and Takewaki demonstrated that the elastic-plastic response as continuation of free-vibrations under impulse input can be derived in a closed form by a sophisticated energy approach without solving directly the equations of motion as differential equations. While, as pointed out above, the approach based on the equivalent linearization method requires the repetition of application of the linearized equations, the method by Kojima and Takewaki does not need any repetition. The double impulse, triple impulse and multiple impulses enable us to describe directly the critical timing of impulses (resonant frequency) which is not easy for the sinusoidal and other inputs without a repetitive procedure. It is important to note that, while most of the previous methods employ the equivalent linearization of the structural model with the input unchanged, the method treated in this eBook transforms the input into a series of impulses with the structural model unchanged. This characteristic guarantees high accuracy and reliability even in the large plastic deformation range. The approach presented in this eBook is an epoch-making accomplishment to open the door for simpler and deeper understanding of structural reliability of built environments in the elastic-plastic range.

Transformation Through Destruction

CC BY-NC-ND

Some 2800 years ago, a man died in what is now the municipality of Oss, the Netherlands. His death must have been a significant event in the life of local communities, for he received an extraordinary funeral, which ended with the construction of an impressive barrow. Based on the meticulous excavation and a range of specialist and comprehensive studies of finds, a prehistoric burial ritual now can be brought to life in surprising detail. An Iron Age community used extraordinary objects that find their closest counterpart in the elite graves of the Hallstatt culture in Central Europe. This book will discuss how lavishly decorated items were dismantled and taken apart to be connected with the body of the deceased, all to be destroyed by fire. In what appears to be a meaningful pars pro toto ritual, the remains of his body, the pyre, and the objects were searched through and moved about, with various elements being manipulated, intentionally broken, and interred or removed. In essence, a person and a place were transformed through destruction. The book shows how the mourners carefully, almost lovingly covered the funeral remains with a barrow. Attention is also given to another remarkable monument, long mound 6, located immediately adjacent to mound 7. Excavations show how mound 7 was part of an age-old ritual heath landscape that was entirely restructured during the Early Iron Age, when it became the setting for the building of no less than three huge Hallstatt C barrows. Thousands of years later, during the Late Middle Ages, this landscape underwent a complete transformation of meaning when the prehistoric barrows became the scenery for a macabre display of the cadavers of executed criminals.
