How to Read Open Interest in an Options Chain- A Beginnerâs Guide

Emily Carter

Open Interest is the number of open option contracts for a specific strike and expiration. To understand it, compare call and put OI across strikes, look for areas where OI is concentrated, and then check volume, price, implied volatility, and bid-ask spreads. OI gives context about current positions but does not guarantee market direction.
