ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. | THEMETALEARNERS.COM BREAK DOWN YOUR GOALS DOMINATE YOUR PROCRASTINATION Every time a procrastinator faces a task, small or large, that does not have clear steps to figuring it out or completing it, that’s an opportunity for procrastination to stick its foot in the door. This is particularly brutal for disastinators. It is really important, therefore, that we take the time to translate each task into small, actionable steps or milestones But, to be honest, that seems like a waste of time and energy , doesn’t it?... I mean, if we can beat procrastination enough to work on breaking the task down, why not get to the task directly? Well, I understand why you’d think that . Mainly because that is how I thought about it for the better part of my life. But then, I realized that even if breaking the task down is a small inefficiency, you get the time back many times over , later on in the process, because it helps deal with your procrastination. Think about it this way: sharpening your axe before cutting down a tree might seem like procrastinating and wasting time, but in the end, it might mean you cut the tree down in half the time. Just stop when the things you’ve noted down seem simple and clear enough that they won’t trigger your procrastination! By now, the micro-tasks should be simple enough for you to get started! If the first one is clear enough for you to go do it right now, then just go do it! If a micro-task needs extra breaking down into pieces, ask yourself: “What are 3 specific actions I need to take to accomplish this micro-task?” Write them down, and then go ahead and do them ! Below I’ve added some extra writing space for when you need to go that deep in breaking down a task.
