December 12, 2017 Contact: Nicholas Glenn Director of Communications North Shore School District 112 224.765.3065 nglenn@nssd112.org NORTH SHORE SCHOOL DISTRICT 112 BOARD OF EDUCATION SELECTS RENOWNED EDUCATIONAL LEADER AS NEW SUPERINTENDENT Dr. Michael Lubelfeld Approved As District 112’s Superintendent Highland Park, Highwood and Fort Sheridan, IL – Tonight, the North Shore School District 112 (NSSD112) Board of Education, unanimously, approved the hiring of Michael Lubelfeld, Ed.D, as NSSD112’s new Superintendent of Schools as of July 1, 2018. Dr. Lubelfeld currently serves as superintendent of schools of Deerfield Public Schools District 109. The appointment of Dr. Lubelfeld comes after an extensive search process conducted by the executive search firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates. The process produced a set of desired characteristics based on a survey and other feedback gathered during meetings with stakeholder groups. These characteristics were used to identify a slate of candidates that were interviewed by the NSSD112 Board. “Dr. Lubelfeld stood out among a large pool of extraordinarily qualified candidates. We were impressed with his enthusiasm, positive vision, and his proven ability to establish a strong foundation of educational excellence for each and every student,” said Board of Education President Eric Ephraim. “The board is proud to have Dr. Lubelfeld lead our district. We are confident that he has the skills, experiences, and perspectives to ensure successful results in the classroom as well as optimizing our resources.” Dr. Lubelfeld is a twenty-five year veteran of Pre-K-8 education with five years as a classroom teacher, eight years as a building level administrator for grades 4-8, and twelve years as a central office administrator, four as Assistant Superintendent and eight as Superintendent. As a resident of Deerfield, and a parent of a 4th grade and 8th grade student, he still has an ‘on the ground’ parental view of education. Coming to NSSD112 will be a homecoming for Dr. Lubelfeld as he has served 13 of his 25 years in education with District 112 as a teacher at Elm Place Middle School from 1997-98, Elm Place Associate Principal from 1998-2002, Elm Place Principal from 2002-06, as well as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel Services from 2006-10. Dr. Lubelfeld is a highly successful superintendent who develops and inspires leaders to transform schools to meet the ever changing needs of students. He currently leads the Aspiring Superintendents Academy for the Illinois Association of School Administrators. Dr. Lubelfeld demonstrates on a regular basis that he is a proactive and resourceful problem solver by -More- listening first as his approach to communication, taking a global view in his approach to education, and considering multiple viewpoints while still maintaining decisiveness. Dr. Lubelfeld was named the 2017 Superintendent of the Year in Lake County, and he was named a 2015-2016 NSPRA Superintendent to Watch. In addition, he is the co-moderator of the monthly Twitter chat #suptchat with Dr. Nick Polyak, and he and Dr. Polyak co-authored the book T he Unlearning Leader: Leading for Tomorrow’s Schools Today . His latest book will be released in January 2018, Student Voice: From Invisible to Invaluable Dr. Lubelfeld is Spanish speaking, and in 2016, he went to the Dominican Republic on a school-building mission trip, and while in District 112, he traveled overseas for recruitment and support of highly specialized dual language teachers. As superintendent at Pennoyer School District 79, he served students and families who speak more than 50 languages. “I am excited and honored to have been chosen as the new superintendent for District 112. I owe a great debt of gratitude to the wonderful Board, staff, and community of Deerfield Public Schools District 109,” said Dr. Lubelfeld. “I recognize that District 112 is at a unique and vital point in its history and I believe that our community, staff, and leadership can work together to re-establish the excellence our District has long been known for.” Dr. Lubelfeld’s five-year contract starts on July 1, 2018 at an annual salary of $299,000.
