Double Feature Friday, May 10, 7:00 & 9:00 pm Inlet Theatre and Galleria Aguirre Wrath of God ~ 7pm Don Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski), a ruthless Spanish conquistador, vies for power while part of an expedition in Peru to find El Dorado, the mythical seven cities of gold. Accompanied by his daughter, Flores, Aguirre faces off against his superior, Don Pedro de Ursua, and grows increasingly volatile after seizing control of the group. As Aguirre presses deeper into the Amazonian jungle, he descends further into madness. A haunting journey of natural wonder and tangible danger, Aguirre transcends epic genre trappings and becomes mythological by its own right. Action/Adventure | West German/Mexico | 1972 | Not Rated | 1hr 35min | German with English subtitles Cave of Forgotten Dreams ~ 9pm In this documentary, filmmaker Werner Herzog and a small crew are given a rare chance to film inside France’s Chauvet Cave, where the walls are covered with the world’s oldest surviving paintings. To preserve the art, people are allowed to enter the site for only two weeks a year. Examining the 30,000-year-old drawings, Herzog discusses how the artwork represents humanity’s earliest dreams with scientists and art scholars conducting research at Chauvet. Hauntingly filmed and brimming with Herzog’s infectious enthusiasm, Cave of Forgotten is a sublime time machine crafted by one of the living legends. This is our premier outdoor event promoting the importance of hospice care and grief support. Hike for Hospice is a pledge-based, national event. The purpose of the 5km walk is not only to raise much needed funds, but also to raise awareness for hospice palliative care and grief support. We would also like to take this opportunity to highlight and celebrate the wonderful work our volunteers and professionals in the field perform daily. Come out and join the fun! This year our hike starts at the Port Moody City Hall at 9:30am where hikers can enjoy warm up exercises, opening remarks from special guests and refreshments. After the hike, there will be entertainment, a craft table for the kids, ice cream, and a BBQ by donation for all participants. Since 1988, Crossroads Hospice Society has served our communities by providing compassionate, quality care to people with life-limiting illness. We provide hospice support through our 10-bed facility, grief services, and thrift store operations in the community. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised at Hike for Hospice support the services and programs at Crossroads. Join thousands of others across Canada, hiking in support of hospice care and services. We encourage hikers of all ages and abilities, as well as their beloved four-legged friends, to come out to this fun community event that is growing larger every year. Marine archaeology continues from the shoreline, exploring the depths beyond - studying the material culture left behind as people ventured into the oceans. Though its archaeological challenges may differ from those of terrestrial archaeology, marine archaeology shares many practices and concerns in common: excavation, preservation, and dealing responsibly with cultural claims. In this presentation marine archaeologist, Rob Rondeau will discuss how marine and terrestrial archaeology work together to give a more complete picture of the past. He'll also talk about how his career has progressed and share some anecdotes about what it's been like along the way, both above and below the water. Rob Rondeau is a Ph.D. Candidate at Simon Fraser University. He is the recipient of the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Ph.D.) and was named a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society in 2012. The event is free but due to limited seating registration is required.
