We have opened up our second training center for upcoming tailors within two months in Purulia. Located in Ajodhya Hill Top, the Tailoring training center is a crucial part of the Janasukta project of the ITCT. We have named it Victory Flag signifying the win-win situation it is for every woman of Purulia. The secretary of the India Tribal Trust, Shri Sridhar Panigrahi, inaugurated the training center and then dedicated it to the youth of Tribal India especially that of Ajodhya Hill. We have planned to start two batches with 24 students throughout the week. ITCT has brought in accredited teachers from the tribal community for training the young girls. P A G E 1 C ontents As the students complete the tailoring training course, they will be awarded a certificate signifying its completion. We will also award the best performer with a brand new sewing machine from ITCT. This training center goes a long way in achieving its objective of empowering the unemployed youth of Purulia. It is also a major step in ensuring that the women in Purulia are empowered and that they are able to self-sustain a livelihood. Project Victory Flag is hence a very vital cornerstone in the history of ITCT. It is key in ensuring that their betterment is achieved and they are empowered in the truest sense. That is why our focus on organizing health camps in Ajodhya Hilltop and Sabar Pally in Purulia is evident. In October, we had successfully organized these camps where more than 300 villagers were tended to with apt health checks and medicines. The handful of health centers and hospitals at these villages will not suffice in providing improved healthcare to these villagers. ITCT acknowledges this fact and hence arranged for specialists from premium hospitals to take care of them. This is aimed at healing all the tribal people from their ailments primarily so that they can focus on their livelihoods. We conduct free health checkups, medicines, and doctor consultations at regular intervals in Purulia. Moreover, ITCT plans to distribute first aid kits in all the villages in Purulia. We have also extended our gratitude to Sambasiva Rao Andaluri for sponsoring the health camp expenses P A G E 2 I S S U E 5 , D E C E M B E R 2 0 2 0 Distribution of Happiness Kits on C hildren’s day by M A GM A The pandemic hasn't been merciful to the children of Purulia. Since lockdown commenced, the schools have been closed, and its students were prohibited from coming. Not only did they miss the sheer opportunity to come together and study, but they also missed their mid-day meals. Some special arrangements were long overdue for them. ITCT didn't want to keep that pending for long. In coordination with the MAGMA foundation, one of the top CSR houses of East India, we ventured to fulfill the children's wishes. We distributed Happiness Kits to 1000 tribal kids of the Pathshalas in Ajodhya Hill and Sabar Pally. We also distributed the same to students of the Bhaktivedanta National School in Ajodhya, Purulia. Every kit contained a hand sanitizer, a reusable mask, school stationery, an exercise book, etc. The kit also addressed the children's nutrition by including pulses, magi noodles, Nutella soybeans, etc. Shri Pradip Karmakar, the BM of MAGMA, was there to distribute the Kits among the children. ITCT has hence forwarded their utmost gratitude to MAGMA Foundation for their thorough support through the CSR model. The fulfillment of the Happiness Kits distribution program was a real benchmark in their quest to empower the tribals in Purulia. Their collaboration in December 2020 with Baba Tarakbhola Mandir Trust in Baranagar was noteworthy. The venture helped distribute Sarees and Blankets to the poor tribals in Sirkbad, Sabar Pally, and Ajodhya Hill. We have also provided emergency light to the tribal children so that they can continue their studies at night when there is loadsheding. This one-day event was a huge success where all volunteers of the Tarak Bhola Mandir Trust showed enthusiasm and proactivity. Their eager participation helped ITCT to successfully distribute the needful to the tribal children of Purulia. On that accord, ITCT extends its heartfelt thanks to Tarak Bhola Trust P A G E 4 To further accelerate the welfare ventures for the tribals, ITCT has purchased three vehicles to assist them. The first is a Force Cruiser to assist them in activities in Tripura. The others are a Maruti Eeco and a Bolero to help in their activities in West Bengal and Jharkhand. ITCT plans to drive these vehicles through all the villages and carry out necessary welfare activities in tribal regions. ITCT has hence shown their utmost gratitude to Mahesh Advani and Sambasiva Rao Andaluri for sponsoring the Bolero and Maruti Eeco, respectively. The vehicles are sure to be of extensive help to the team in their future welfare ventures. These will shorten the distance between the trust and the tribals and help them reach at the earliest. Vehicles for enhancing tribal welfare I S S U E 5 , D E C E M B E R 2 0 2 0 Opening new pathshalas for the tribal children Besides all the ill effects the lockdown posed on the tribal children, the way it hampered their education ranks at the top. The volunteers of ITCT couldn't let the lockdown come in between their studies and development. In the last quarter of 2020, we established a total of 10 pathshalas for the tribal students. 6 of them were in Chamunu, Tripura, 1 in Hailakandi, Assam, 2 in Pakur, Jharkhand and 1 in Purulia, West Bengal. Not only did we establish the pathshalas, but we also ensured that we started operating from December in non-Covid areas. This hasn't satisfied the hunger among the ITCT volunteers as they are eager to continue the good work further. We are working tirelessly to open more such pathshalas in multiple villages where tribal communities are residents. Their lack of educational amenities and primary schools are the worrying concerns hampering their welfare. This initiative from ITCT is aimed at curbing those hindrances and empowering tribal children in the path of education. It is only through proper education that the tribal community can empower their next generation to sustain a healthy livelihood.
