CCSA Advocates Endorses Marilyn Koziatek for LAUSD School Board A public school mom and leader, longtime Angeleno and champion for Valley schools Los Angeles, CA – The California Charter Schools Association Advocates (CCSA Advocates) today announced it endorsed Marilyn Koziatek for Board District 3 in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) primary election taking place on March 3, 2020. “ Marilyn is committed to ensuring that all students in the San Fernando Valley have access to high quality public schools in their neighborhood,” said Myrna Castrejón, Board Member, CCSA Advocates . ”We need school board members who will take a balanced, pragmatic approach to governing and never sacrifice the needs of our students. Marilyn will only accept what is best for all kids, and there is no doubt her voice and perspective is what LAUSD needs at this critical time.” LAUSD is the second largest school district in the country. The seven members of the school board oversee a budget of $7.8 billion and are responsible for the education of nearly 600,000 public school children in more than 1,000 traditional district schools and 228 charter public schools. This school board election comes at a particularly important time as the district faces critical budgetary decisions, the need to improve student achievement, particularly for our most vulnerable students, and parent demand for high-quality public schools. “Marilyn understands education from the perspectives of a current LAUSD parent, volunteer, leader, and public school employee,” said Yvette King-Berg, Executive Director, YPI Charter Schools in Los Angeles. “Her experience has helped her see firsthand the challenges our schools face and the need for a school board that will address those challenges head-on. This combination of experience is absent - but needed - on the LAUSD board. ”
