The organization is a non-profit, non- partisan, and non-governmental institution that is registered in Ndhiwa, Homabay County (Kenya) as a Community Based Organization. It is managed by a network of lawyers who are Advocates of the High Court of Kenya with extensive experience in strategic litigation, community-based action, policy and legislative advocacy. Much of our work is centered on the need to promote Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Kenya. We are at the forefront of the needs of ordinary citizens, women, youth, persons with disability, minority and marginalized communities through the enforcement of their sexual and reproductive health rights. We work with communities and organizations dedicated to protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms. SJL engages in sexual and reproductive health rights awareness and education, capacity building, policy and legislative advocacy, strategic litigation, research and publication. 4 Social J u s tice League (SJL) Profile 2 The Social Justice League (SJL) is a Community Based Organization Profile (CBO) registered with the Department of Social Development. To actualize, implement and measure existing policies and legislation on Gender Democracy with the aim of assessing their gender responsiveness; 2. To conduct Civic Education on social and economic opportunities whilst identifying opportunities for women entrepreneurs with regard to regional trade in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA); 3. To undertake legal and other forms of research with the aim of identifying issues and gaps negatively affecting gender democracy and transform such issues in ways that promote gender equality; 4. To initiate policy and legislative changes in Gender Democracy through publications, capacity- building initiatives, stakeholder engagement and strategic litigation among other activities; 5. To champion sexual and reproductive health rights of women and girls; 6. To promote the rights of persons living with disabilities by incorporating the gender perspective in any disability action through implementation of gender and disability sensitive laws and policies, among others; 7. To enhance partnerships, collaboration and linkages with other persons, groups or organizations for the benefit of the community. Since its establishment, SJL has implemented SRHR activities in primary and secondary schools in Ndhiwa Constituency, Homabay County. These activities included a HIV awareness and prevention network program undertaken in observance of the 16 days of Gender Activism. SJL is currently a member of the Homabay County Gender Sector Working Group and the Civil Society Network, Homabay Chapter. SJL has collaborated with various players in the justice sector in identifying cases that require strategic litigation and other forms of advocacy.
