Donations made to this fund go to help needy people and families throughout the year, but there is a special emphasis placed on this fund during the holidays. This year, some of the money in the fund will be used to provide extra clothing to be kept at the Head Start School for those children who get dirty or wet in the playground. They often need a change of clothes kept at the school so they have something to wear home. Your donations will help re - supply the clothes closet at the school. Previously, funds for clothes came directly from the teacher ’ s pockets. Please mark any donations as “ Pastor ’ s Love Fund ” or choose that fund in the drop - down list on the donation part of our website. Also, we invite you to send a short note of encouragement to the student we highlight every week in this newsletter. Our student for this week is: Mitchell T c/o Adult & Teen Challenge 31700 Fayetteville Dr. Shedd, OR 97377 Christmas is mere weeks away, and all I need is some peace and quiet. It ’ s fun- ny, though. I don ’ t think “ peace and quiet ” is what Isaiah meant when he conveyed God ’ s message, “ Comfort, O comfort my people ...” Or, more specifically, I don ’ t think he meant quiet. Quiet isn ’ t the right adjective for the just peace that we are both waiting for and called to live into as we wait in this season. No, this just peace cries out not from halls of power but from the wilderness. It is a peace that refuses to stand by and be quiet while all the things that keep us from right relationship with God, one another, and all creation re- main. But that doesn ’ t mean there isn ’ t a place for quiet. God ’ s just peace may not be quiet, but quiet is absolutely necessary for us to be able to participate in God ’ s just peace. We are paradoxical beings. The more we are overstimulated, the less we are able to connect with one another and with God. We need time and space to quiet the constant input, so we can listen and notice and connect with God and with our neighbors. We have tried to keep the sanctuary open and available all week for anyone that wishes to come in and pray in the quiet. The tree is lit most mornings, and we try to have soft music playing anytime there might be someone in the building. You are welcome to take a break from this busy season and just sit in the sanctuary and enjoy the quiet and peace.
