A semi-historical novel about the English civil War in the 17th century over differences of religious worship.

Deep currents of thought about social and political change run through 'Rosmersholm', the last of Ibsen's political plays. Johannes Rosmer, a leading member of his community, chooses to support the new reformist government despite his own upper class origins. Unfortunately, his complicated relationship with Rebecca West, a friend of his dead wife who now lives in his house, leaves him open to attacks from those angry at what they see as his political and moral betrayal. Inspired by an upheaval in Norwegian politics, as well as the life of one of Ibsen's friends, 'Rosmersholm' was first performed at the National Theatre in Bergen, Norway, in 1887. Despite its relative obscurity, it is considered by some Ibsen scholars to be one of his masterpieces.
Leaving his lowly Midlands home to pursue his career as a journalist among the free-thinkers of London, Godwin Peak's origins and poverty hinder him at every turn. Publishing an article attacking the hypocrisy of the Victorian Church gives him his break. His future dims, however, when he falls catastrophically in love with the devout Sidwell Warricombe.

This book analyses and discusses the recent developments for assessing research quality in the humanities and related fields in the social sciences. Research assessments in the humanities are highly controversial and the evaluation of humanities research is delicate. While citation-based research performance indicators are widely used in the natural and life sciences, quantitative measures for research performance meet strong opposition in the humanities. This volume combines the presentation of state-of-the-art projects on research assessments in the humanities by humanities scholars themselves with a description of the evaluation of humanities research in practice presented by research funders. Bibliometric issues concerning humanities research complete the exhaustive analysis of humanities research assessment. The selection of authors is well-balanced between humanities scholars, research funders, and researchers on higher education. Hence, the edited volume succeeds in painting a comprehensive picture of research evaluation in the humanities. This book is valuable to university and science policy makers, university administrators, research evaluators, bibliometricians as well as humanities scholars who seek expert knowledge in research evaluation in the humanities.

Plants are continuously exposed to different environmental stress conditions that have a huge impact on agriculture worldwide, consequently leading to massive economic losses. These adverse conditions alter the metabolism of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS and RNS). High concentrations of these reactive species—that exceed the capacity of antioxidant defense enzymes—disturb redox homeostasis, which can trigger damage to such macromolecules as membrane lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids, ultimately resulting in nitro-oxidative stress and plant cell death. Significant progress has been made to understand how plants persist in these stressful environments which could be vital to improving plant crop yield. This Special Issue “Oxidative Stress in Plants” includes both original research articles and detailed reviews that aim to better understand the nitro-oxidative stress networks in higher plants, and the addressed topics provide updated and new knowledge about ROS and RNS metabolism in plant responses to abiotic stress as well as the modulation of antioxidant systems in the control of ROS production and accumulation.
