They have become a powerful biotool to modulate the influence of global warming on grape varieties, helping to maintain the acidity, decrease the alcoholic degree, stabilize wine color, and increase freshness. In cool climates, some non-Saccharomyces can promote demalication or color stability by the formation of stable derived pigments. Additionally, non-Saccharomyces yeasts open new possibilities in biocontrol for removing spoilage yeast and bacteria or molds that can produce and release mycotoxins and, thereby, help in reducing applied SO2 levels.

The comprehensive index takes into account risk factors such as the quality of healthcare, age of the population, structure of the economy – including reliance on tourism, remittances, commodity exports, global value chains, the capacity of the countries to implement countercyclical financial policy, strength of the banking sector, and more.

This peer-reviewed collection brings together the latest research on language endangerment and language rights. It creates a vibrant, interdisciplinary platform for the discussion of the most pertinent and urgent topics central to vitality and equality of languages in today’s globalised world. The novelty of the volume lies in the multifaceted view on the variety of dangers that languages face today, such as extinction through dwindling speaker populations and lack of adequate preservation policies or inequality in different social contexts (e.g. access to justice, education and research resources). There are examples of both loss and survival, and discussion of multiple factors that condition these two different outcomes. We pose and answer difficult questions such as whether forced interventions in preventing loss are always warranted or indeed viable. The emerging shared perspective is that of hope to inspire action towards improving the position of different languages and their speakers through research of this kind.

Wie verändert die Digitalisierung das Beratungsformat Coaching? Wie wirksam ist Digital Coaching im Vergleich? There is some talk about an antibiotic Armageddon due to quickly developing resistance towards commercially available antibiotics. For the most part, the classical antibiotic pipeline has dried up, and antibiotic resistance to any new drugs quickly develops. It is here that metal-based antimicrobials can step forward as possible solutions in this antimicrobial resistance era. The biological targets of metal atoms are more diverse, thus making it more difficult for bacteria to develop resistance compared with classical antibiotics. The metal silver has been used since antiquity for wound healing and water purification. At present, it is the most prevalent antimicrobial metal used in healthcare, industry, and consumer products. Silver is being used in the form of ionic salt, colloids, or in specific nanomaterials, and as described in this book, it can be applied as mixtures with other antimicrobials or coating composites. The different formulations are explored for their efficacy against a variety of problems related to agricultural and medical infections. Whilst by no means exhaustive, this book nicely highlights the present directions in silver-based antimicrobial research and antimicrobial formulation development. The chapters have been organized from a general introductory review to approaches of mixing other antimicrobials and materials to enhance silver performance. This is followed by synthetic approaches. First are biogenic (sometimes called green or eco-friendly) approaches, followed by advanced physical–chemical synthetic approaches. The book ends with an overview of applications through a review of patents over the past 10 years.

This open access book presents the first detailed study of one of the most important masterpieces of Renaissance cartography, Martin Waldseemllers Carta marina of 1516. By transcribing, translating into English, and detailing the sources of all of the descriptive texts on the map, as well as the sources of many of the images, the book makes the map available to scholars in a wholly unprecedented way. In addition, the book provides revealing insights into how Waldseemller went about making the map -- information that cant be found in any other source. The Carta marina is the result of Waldseemllers radical re-evaluation of what a world map should be; he essentially started from scratch when he created it, rejecting the Ptolemaic model and other sources he had used in creating his 1507 map, and added more descriptive texts and a wealth of illustrations. Given its content, the book offers an essential reference work not only on this map, but also for anyone working in sixteenth-century European cartography.

What can the generative processes of dynamic ownership reveal about how the urban is experienced, understood and made in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia? Shaping Urban Futures in Mongolia provides an ethnography of actions, strategies and techniques that form part of how residents precede and underwrite the owning of real estate property – including apartments and land – in a rapidly changing city. In doing so, it charts the types of visions of the future and perceptions of the urban form that are emerging within Ulaanbaatar following a period of investment, urban growth and subsequent economic fluctuation in Mongolia’s extractive economy since the late 2000s.

Alors que les loisirs occupent une place centrale dans nos modes devie, les déplacements induits par les loisirs des citadins sont peut-être à même de remettre fondamentalement en cause l’idée de ville compacte dont les vertusen matière de mobilité étaient jusqu’ici largement reconnues.C’est ce que suggèrent certains chercheurs, soulignant que les liens entre formes urbaines et mobilités n’ont été que peu abordés en prenant en compte les loisirs.Or, pour ce motif, ce sont bien les habitants des centres qui sont les plus mobiles. Selon eux, cela s’expliquerait par le fait qu’ils bénéficieraient de plus faibles possibilités de passer leur temps libre sur leur lieu de vie en comparaison avec les propriétaires de maisons avec jardin profitant d’un environnement verdoyant. Cet « effet de compensation » ou « effet barbe-cue », méconnu, inviterait dès lors à changer de paradigme : cesser de prôner la densité et revaloriser les formes périurbaines afin de réduire ce type de mobilités particulièrement polluantes.Cet ouvrage explore cette controverse en se penchant sur les cas de Ge-nève et Zurich.
