represented by Timoféy Kolesnikov 2021 UNTITLED Timofey Kolesnikov (b. 1989), is a contemporary visual artist from Salekhard, a small town in northern Russia, where he began his art career as a photographer for a local newspaper and art museum. He then moved to Moscow in 2007, becoming a celebrated portrait and fashion photographer, facilitating his interest in celebrity culture and documentary photography. Presently, Timofey utilizes photography, as well as a variety of media, including textile, serigraphy, and printmaking. His most recent work depicts the transformation of the human experience, which he explores through anatomy and abstraction. This further allows him to establish an engaging and visual dialogue between the artwork and the viewer. ARTIST STATEMENT "Over the past 15 years, I have measured time with photographs, documenting a specific event during a moment in history. Having photographed over 60 000 human beings from all walks of life I was able to transpose myself within the totality of each individual. I studied the subjects eagerly and obsessively, meanwhile interrogating my inner dialogue. This self- examination took me around the world, from the mountains of Tibet to the deserts of Saudi Arabia. As I further examined my process of self-discovery, I found that understanding the essence of human nature unfolded through painting. Devotion to painting is similar to a prayer through which I found that the past, present, and future meet. Abstraction allowed me the clarity to reveal the pure nature that lies within. This inner dialogue of interrogation beckons me to withdraw from my own self-importance, therefore accepting my true identity. I believe that transformation occurs when viewing oneself from a distance, it is then that the unknown remains within the shell of who you once were."
