LEADERSHIP TEAM POSITION DESCRIPTION Our Mission DemocraShe is dedicated to inspiring and empowering female-identifying and aligned high school students across the country to become future elected leaders. We encourage young women to elevate their voices through self-advocacy, civic engagement, and community building, empowering a new generation of intersectional female activists, advocates, and elected officials. The status quo is failing us, so we are here to change it DemocraShe aims to create an safe, brave, intersectional, joyful space where girls receive the support and guidance they need to pursue the roles they deserve. As an organization we are committed to serving all women, and as such we strive to be actively antiracist both internally and externally. We prepare young women who see civic engagement as their responsibility and running for office as their right. The Position DemocraShe is an organization dedicated to encouraging young women to run for office. We aim to mentor high school students who might not otherwise be given the opportunities that white, male students receive- providing them with resources, helping them network, and working with them to build their confidence and skills. We are currently in the process of assembling a qualified, dedicated, and diverse leadership team to oversee the execution of our goals. It is very important to us that our team looks like the populations we are hoping to serve, and as such we are committed to finding young female-identifying and aligned candidates between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four from a broad racial and socioeconomic background. Ideal candidates will be ● Devoted to the goals of gender and racial equality in our political system ● Hardworking, passionate and committed ● Ready to work with the rest of the team ● Open-minded and creative ● Forward-thinking, optimistic, and working from a place of joy Your responsibilities may include but are not limited to: ● Being a part of DemocraShe’s initial brainstorming process ● Working on outreach for the program which would include reaching out to high schools, representatives from different institutions, etc. ● Creating content for our social media page, contributing to the website, and marketing to potential sponsors ● Creating a program for the fellowship ● Work on networking and advising college mentors We want to highlight that we are open to new ideas and any possible contributions you may think would be a good addition to our team! DemocraShe meets at least twice a week. As an organization, we follow the Step Up/Step Back model. When you need to step back and take time for yourself, your team members will step up and take on some of your work, and when your team members need to step back, you’ll step up. The DemocraShe leadership team is deeply invested and committed to our work. As a part of the team, we expect a certain level of commitment and will hold each member to dedicate time and focus to quality work that benefits the program and is upheld by our values. Advantages As a member of the Leadership Team, you will be actively included in building an organization, creating and leading programs, and running point on project working groups. You will also receive active mentorship in how to develop your own voice as a leader. In consideration of your time, members of the Leadership Team will receive modest stipends. We want to recognize the hard work that each woman puts into DemocraShe and we would like to hold ourselves to the values that we will be teaching which include that women’s work deserves to be compensated.
