Turn left to stay on US41. Follow US41 through Hancock and Calumet continuing for 30.2 miles to Gratiot Lake Rd and turn right. This road is about 2 miles down the road from the Eagle Harbor CutOff Rd. Continue up Gratiot Lake Rd for 2.7 miles and turn left on Horace Greeley Rd. Continue up the road .4 miles until you reach the site. If you see a million NO TRESPASSING signs on Horace Greeley Rd, you’re at the right place. Turn right on M26 across the bridge towards Dollar Bay and continue 4.7 miles. Turn right on Montreal Rd and continue for 1.5 miles. Turn left onto Senter Rd and continue for 0.4 miles before making a right hand turn to stay on Senter Rd. Continue on Senter Rd for 1.6 miles. Turn left to stay on US41. Follow US41 through Hancock and Calumet continuing for 35.9 miles to Lac La Belle Rd and turn right. Take Lac La Belle Rd 7.4 miles to Smith Fisheries Road, just before you reach the bay. (For some reason the road has a no trespassing sign, which you can ignore.) Keep on Smith Fisheries Rd. for 2.5 miles until you get to a spot to the right with parking for 34 cars. After a .7mile walk down t he old road, a blue sign to the left signals the beginning of the hiking trail. Soon another sign with a map of the 3m ile loop emerges. As you head up, be sure to follow the blue stenciled arrows. At one point fairly near the bluffs, the trail dips for a short way and the trail makes an unmarked leftha nd turn which is easy to miss. Turn right onto M26 towards Lake Linden and continue for 10.6 miles. Turn right on 9 th Street/Bootjack Road. Continue for 2.2 miles and turn left on Rice Lake Road. Continue on Rice Lake Rd. for 6.2 miles and turn left on a small twotrack (N47 10.695 W88 15.935 ) just past a blueberry farm on your right. A DDITIONAL I NFORMATION You can get inside the “Rock Hopper” or the big steel thing under the actual building. It’s full of mine ore and is one of the best places to find Centennial conglomerate. It’s great if you have a diamond saw and can cut rocks in half. WARNING: USE EXTREME CAUTION IF YOU GO INSIDE THE ROCK HOPPER. IT’S PROBABLY ILLEGAL, YOU NEED A DUST MASK WHEN MOVING ROCK DUE TO STAGNENT AIR AND LOTS OF DUST, THE RAPPEL IN IS A 25 FOOT FREE DROP, THE CLIMB IN FROM THE BOTTOM IS A 15 FOOT VERTICAL FREE CLIMB THROUGH A HOLE THE SIZE OF A MICROWAVE. THIS IS CRAZY SH*T. The conglomerate you find i nside the hoist is not that amazing unless you have the ability to cut it. Sometimes smashing the rocks yields cool chunks of copper. Follow US41 through Hancock and Calumet continuing for 46.5 miles to Copper Harbor turning right to continue downtown. After .2 miles turn right on 2 nd street in downtown. Continue for 1.1 miles and take a left on a seasonal dirt road. This road is snowmobile rout 135. Follow route 135 for .9 miles. Make a slight left to continue to Clark Mine and do not follow sign to E. Pines. Continue for .4 miles till you see a clearing/sign for Clark Mine Location on your left. Continue on Cliff Drive for 6.3 miles till you see the rocks from the Cliff Mine on your left. Turn right on M26 across the bridge towards Dollar Bay and continue 10.5 miles till you reach the town of Lake Linden and turn left on 10 th street. Continue .2 miles until you see a bridge crossing over the road. Park here. Now begin hiking north on the snowmobile trail for about .3 miles until you cross a bridge over the Hammell River. Hike to the bottom of the gorge and hike up stream for about .8 miles until you hit the waterfall. It’s private property and there are other ways to get there, but this is the most scenic and interesting way there.
