Registration The Prospective Adoptive Parents shall apply by filling up the online application form through Child Adoption Resource Information and Guidance System (CARINGS) and submit all the necessary documents. Step- 1 Home Study & Counselling The social worker makes a visit to the home for home study and a home study report is made. Step- 2 Suitability of the Parents On the basis of the Home Study report, suitability of the Prospective Adoptive Parents is determined. Step -3 Choosing of the Child Here, the prospective parents accepts the child which is being referred by the Adoptive Agency. Step -4 9 STEPS ADOPTION OF CHILDREN IN INDIA Pre- Adoption Foster Care The Prospective Adoptive Parents take the child in Pre- adoption foster care and a petition is filed in the Court. Step -6 Court Hearing and order Step -7 Follow Up Post adoption follow up report is conducted for a period of 2 years. Step -8 After the hearing and making a confirmed decision, the Court gives a order. On acceptance of the child by the Prospective Adoptive Parents, adoption process is completed. Acceptance of the Child Step -5 Adoption in India is regulated by Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) which is a statutory body of Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India.
