A former RIT captain and alumnus, Thomas brings more than 26 years of coaching experience across the NCAA and professional levels. His background includes extensive success in the American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League, where he ranks among the league’s all-time leaders in wins, postseason games coached, and playoff appearances, and earned ECHL Coach of the Year honors. We were a tight group that believed in each other, and that run put RIT hockey on the national map. The coaching staff trusted us, prepared us well, and let us play with confidence. Ritter Arena was electric during that stretch, and the fan support was incredible for a young Division I program. Academics were demanding but manageable, especially for players willing to stay organized. RIT felt like a place that took hockey seriously without losing perspective on development and education. Looking back, it was the right choice and a defining chapter of my life. 12/12/2025 A DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE AFTER PROMISES FELL APART Rating: 3.0 / 5.0 My season at RIT turned into something completely different from what I was led to expect. During the recruiting process, I was assured that I’d have a genuine opportunity to step in right away, compete for a spot, and see regular ice time. Once I arrived, it became clear those assurances didn’t match the reality. The depth chart was already essentially set, and no matter how well I practiced, the door to real playing time never actually opened. Week after week, I stayed ready, worked hard, and kept asking where I stood — but the answers were vague, shifting, and never aligned with what was said during recruitment. It was frustrating and discouraging to feel like the expectations I was given upfront were never truly attainable. By midseason, it was obvious I needed a fresh start somewhere that valued transparency.
