Spotify Analytics Review Hayden McHugh General Analysis ● Currently, most of our streams come from songs that we’ve featured on ● We do have a small but mighty followership of 200 followers on Spotify - these individuals are presented our content whenever it is released ● Most of our streams are currently coming from songs that we have featured on, however this unfortunately doesn’t encourage the algorithm heavily in our favour ● Our goal right now is to continue to grow our independant followership; Spotify’s algorithm favours artists that can bring people to their site and keep them there - how can we do that? The first four songs are features, and have significantly higher stream and listener counts. We simply need to continue to encourage our current followers to come and visit the app more frequently, and encourage our new fans on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, to come and be a new follower. This can easily be done with simple content campaigns, either for new content or media that has recently been released. We need to be encouraging people to visit the app as much as possible - even a simple call-to-action encouraged 9 new followers over a 24 hour period. Imagine what could be done with a larger release campaign? ● Number of clicks for streaming an individual track is on the rise ● Up from 27 last year on ‘Smile’ to 39 this year with ‘Up All Night’, however we are down in actual pre-saves ● ‘Smile’ received 43 actual pre-saves last year, verses ‘Up All Night’ only receiving 9 this year in May - the campaign for Up All Night was underwhelming to say the least, and we will only see remedial growth if we don’t push hard Successful Release Analysis - ‘Smile’ vs ‘Up All Night’ ➡ ● In analyzing the number of followers on Spotify for Artists during the period in which ‘Smile’ was released, we can see the jump in followers as a result of the pre-save campaign, as well as simply the release video, as demonstrated in the graphs above ● The campaign for ‘Smile’ was mostly laid out for Instagram, and this is the right move considering that most of our website traffic comes from Insta ● In the future, with the use of Instagram and Facebook ads, we might even be able to encourage more traffic, ergo encouraging Spotify’s algorithm Our goal is to engage the algorithm as much as possible, and demonstrate that we have an audience on Spotify that keeps coming back for our music This is easily done, but as I’ve demonstrated above, we must be continuously bringing people back for more music in-app. Recommendations ● More music - it would be great if we could get something every month, but every 2nd month is fine too. Singles are best, because only one song per body of work can be submitted to the editors at Spotify ● More video based campaigns, bolstered by even small promotions through Instagram and Facebook ads - this driving more traffic to the site, hopefully encouraging our algorithmic source of streams to go up from 22% ● Continue sharing content on other sites, even if it feels remedial ○ Website analytics showed that Reddit saw 6 website votes this year so far through the link in bio, most likely from the 5 reposts of a selfie onto various subreddits ○ These single connections of an individual stumbling onto your Spotify page can be the kicker to a whole new audience
