Page 154 1 Lesson 1 January 03, 2026 GOD ’ S COVENANT OF REST Memory Verse: “ My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. ” – Exodus 33:14 Bible Passage : Exodus 20:8 – 11; Matthew 11:28 – 30 Introduction F rom the very beginning of creation, God wove rest into the rhythm of human life. On the seventh day, He rested, not because He was weary, but because He wanted to set a pattern for us, His people. Later, He renewed this covenant of rest with Israel, commanding them to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Yet the Sabbath is more than a day on the calendar; it is an invitation to experience God ’ s peace, presence, and renewal. In a restless world filled with endless striving, God still calls us to step into His covenant of rest and trust Him completely. GOD ’ S COVENANT OF REST T he Sabbath is not just a religious duty, it is a divine gift. In Exodus 20:8 – 11, God commanded His people to remember the Sabbath day. Notice that He used the word remember. Why? Because human beings so easily forget that our strength is not in ourselves but in the Lord. The Sabbath is a weekly reminder that God is our Creator and Sustainer. When Israel entered into covenant with God, the Sabbath became a sign of their relationship with Him (Exodus 31:13). Each Sabbath rest was like a seal, marking them as God ’ s people. In the New Testament, this covenant is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. He said in Matthew 11:28, “ Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. ” The rest that Jesus Christ Chosen Sabbath Mission Inc. 2026 Sabbath School Student ’ s Manual | Page 2 offers is not limited to one day; it is a spiritual rest that brings peace to the soul. Think about the way our modern world functions. People run from one task to another, endlessly pursuing success, wealth, or recognition. Yet, the more we strive, the more weary our souls become. We fill our schedules but starve our spirits. God knew this about us. That is why He gave the Sabbath—not as a burden, but as a blessing. The Sabbath teaches us to depend on God. When we lay down our work, we confess that the world will not collapse without us. We remind ourselves that God is the One who sustains all things. Rest is an act of faith. Every time you set aside your labor to focus on God, you proclaim: “ Lord, I trust You more than my efforts. ” The covenant of rest is also a picture of eternity. Hebrews 4 speaks of a greater Sabbath rest that remains for the people of God. One day, all who believe in Christ will enter into His eternal rest, free from sin, sorrow, and striving. Every weekly Sabbath is a foretaste of that eternal joy. So how do we live out this covenant today? First, by setting aside time, regular, sacred time, to be with God in worship, prayer, and fellowship. Second, by refusing to let busyness control our lives. Third, by remembering that true rest is found in Christ alone. You can sleep all day and still be restless, but one hour in God ’ s presence can renew your soul. Beloved, God ’ s covenant of rest is His gift to you. Don ’ t neglect it. Step into His presence, lay down your burdens, and let Him refresh your heart. QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION 1. What does it mean for you personally to “ rest ” in the Lord? 2. How can you make the Sabbath more meaningful in your family or community? 3. In what ways do you struggle with trusting God enough to stop and rest? Christ Chosen Sabbath Mission Inc. 2026 Sabbath School Student ’ s Manual | Page 3 A S S I G N M E NT Take one Sabbath this month and intentionally unplug from unnecessary distractions. Spend that time in prayer, worship, and quiet reflection. Write down how God refreshed you through it. F U R T H E R R E A D I N G Hebrews 4:1 – 11 Psalm 23 Isaiah 58:13 – 14 Christ Chosen Sabbath Mission Inc. 2026 Sabbath School Student ’ s Manual | Page 4 Lesson 2 January 10, 2026 THE AUTHORITY OF GOD ’ S WORD Memory Verse: “ All Scripture is God - breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. ” – 2 Timothy 3:16 Bible Passage : Psalm 119:89 – 105; Matthew 4:1 – 11; 2 Timothy 3:14 – 17 Introduction T hroughout history, men and women have built their lives on many foundations: money, power, influence, traditions, even personal opinions. But there is only one sure and unshakable foundation, the Word of God. The Bible is not an ordinary book; it is the living, breathing revelation of God Himself. In it, He has given us His promises, His commandments, and His wisdom for life. In our time, the authority of God ’ s Word is often challenged, ignored, or watered down. Yet, for the believer, the Scriptures remain the ultimate standard of truth. To trust God ’ s Word is to trust God Himself, for He and His Word cannot be separated. THE AUTHORITY OF GOD ’ S WORD W hen Jesus was tempted in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1 – 11), He did not respond with human reasoning, philosophy, or clever arguments. Each time Satan tempted Him, He answered with the words: “ It is written. ” That phrase reveals the foundation of His authority: the Word of God. If the Son of God Himself relied on Scripture to overcome temptation, how much more should we? The Bible claims absolute authority because of its origin. “ All Scripture is God - breathed ” (2 Timothy 3:16). This means the words of the Bible came not from human imagination, but from the very breath of God. It is His voice, speaking through human authors, carried by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:20 – 21) Christ Chosen Sabbath Mission Inc. 2026 Sabbath School Student ’ s Manual | Page 5 That is why the Bible is living and active, sharper than any two - edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). It is not just a record of history, it is the power of God speaking to us today. The authority of God ’ s Word means it is our highest standard. In a world that changes constantly, God ’ s Word does not change. “ Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven ” (Psalm 119:89). Society may shift its values, governments may change their laws, cultures may redefine morality, but the Word of God stands eternal. What was true yesterday is true today, and it will remain true tomorrow. This authority calls for obedience. James tells us not to merely hear the Word, but to do what it says (James 1:22). To hear without obeying is to build a house on sand (Matthew 7:24 – 27). Many people admire the Bible, quote the Bible, and even defend the Bible, yet they do not submit to it. But the true test of our relationship with God is whether His Word governs our decisions, our priorities, and our character. The authority of God ’ s Word also brings comfort. In Psalm 119:105, the psalmist declares: “ Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. ” This means Scripture not only tells us what is true, but also guides us when life is dark and uncertain. Many times, people ask, “ How do I know God ’ s will? ” The answer is simple: open His Word. The more we read and meditate on Scripture, the clearer His voice becomes. Sadly, in today ’ s world, many have replaced God ’ s Word with personal feelings. People say, “ I feel this is right, ” or “ I think God wouldn ’ t mind, ” but feelings can deceive us (Jeremiah 17:9). God ’ s Word is the final authority that judges our feelings, not the other way around. Let us be people of the Book. Let the Bible shape our worldview, direct our decisions, and anchor our faith. When storms of doubt or temptation arise, we can stand firm because we are standing on the unshakable Word of God. Remember, the devil fears the Word of God. That is why he tries to distort it, dilute it, or distract us from it. But if you keep the Word in your heart and live by it, you will walk in victory. Christ Chosen Sabbath Mission Inc. 2026 Sabbath School Student ’ s Manual | Page 6 QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION 1. Do you truly see the Bible as the highest au- thority in your life? 2. How do you respond when culture or person- al feelings contradict the Word of God? 3. What steps can you take this week to deepen your study and application of Scripture? A S S I G N M E NT Choose one verse each day this week to memorize and meditate upon. Write down how that verse shaped your actions or decisions throughout the day. F U R T H E R R E A D I N G Joshua 1:7 – 9 John 17:17 Hebrews 4:12 Christ Chosen Sabbath Mission Inc. 2026 Sabbath School Student ’ s Manual | Page 7 Lesson 3 January 17, 2026 FASTING THAT PLEASES GOD Memory Verse: “ Is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? ” – Isaiah 58:6 Bible Passage : Isaiah 58:1 – 12; Matthew 6:16 – 18 Introduction F asting is one of the most misunderstood spiritual practices. For some, it is seen as a ritual of suffering to try to twist God ’ s arm into giving them what they want. For others, it has become a religious show, an outward display of piety to impress people. But in the eyes of God, fasting has a far deeper and richer meaning. In Isaiah 58, God confronts His people because their fasting was empty, religious ritual without true repentance or love. He reminds us that the kind of fast He desires is one that transforms the heart, leads to justice, brings compassion, and draws us closer to Him. FASTING THAT PLEASES GOD T he people of Israel in Isaiah ’ s day were very religious. They prayed, they fasted, they went through the motions of worship. Outwardly, they looked devoted. Yet God said their fasting did not please Him because their hearts were far from Him. They were fasting while still quarreling, oppressing the poor, and living unjustly (Isaiah 58:3 – 4). This reveals a vital truth: fasting without righteousness is meaningless. True fasting is not about the absence of food but about the presence of God. When Jesus taught about fasting in Matthew 6:16 – 18, He warned against doing it for show. He told us not to disfigure our faces or draw attention to Christ Chosen Sabbath Mission Inc. 2026 Sabbath School Student ’ s Manual | Page 8 ourselves, but to fast in secret before our Father in heaven. The goal is not for people to see us, but for God to see our hearts. Isaiah 58 tells us what kind of fasting God chooses: To loose the bonds of wickedness. Fasting should lead us to repentance, breaking the chains of sin in our lives. It is a time to humble ourselves, confess our failures, and receive God ’ s cleansing grace. To undo heavy burdens . Fasting should soften our hearts toward others. If our fasting does not make us more loving, patient, and compassionate, it is not the fast God desires. To let the oppressed go free. True fasting brings us into alignment with God ’ s heart for justice. It opens our eyes to those who are suffering and moves us to act in love. To share bread with the hungry, bring the poor into our homes, and clothe the naked (Isaiah 58:7). In other words, fasting is not just about what we abstain from, it ’ s about what we give to others. When fasting is practiced in this way, God promises powerful results: “ Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you ” (Isaiah 58:8). Fasting that pleases God brings spiritual renewal, healing, and blessing, not only for us, but also for those around us. Fasting is not a way to manipulate God but a way to align ourselves with Him. When we fast, we quiet the noise of the flesh and tune in to the voice of the Spirit. It is not a hunger strike to force God ’ s hand, it is an act of surrender that says, “ Lord, I need You more than food, more than comfort, more than anything else. ” Let us remember that fasting without prayer is just dieting. Fasting must be combined with heartfelt prayer and obedience. As we fast, we should open the Bible, spend time in God ’ s presence, and let Him search our hearts. We should use the time and resources we save to bless others. When you fast in this way, you will experience God ’ s nearness in a powerful way. You will discover that the fast God chooses is not about empty rituals, it is about transformed hearts and lives. Christ Chosen Sabbath Mission Inc. 2026 Sabbath School Student ’ s Manual | Page 9 QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION 1. When you fast, is it more about seeking God or trying to get something from Him? 2. How can fasting draw you closer to compas- sion, justice, and service to others? 3. What practical step can you take this week to turn your fasting into blessing for someone in need? A S S I G N M E NT Plan a one - day fast this week. During that time, dedicate yourself to prayer and Bible study. Use the money or time saved from meals to help someone in need, whether by giving food, clothing, or encouragement. F U R T H E R R E A D I N G Joel 2:12 – 13 Matthew 6:16 – 18 Acts 13:2 – 3 Christ Chosen Sabbath Mission Inc. 2026 Sabbath School Student ’ s Manual | Page 10 Lesson 4 January 24, 2026 THE LORD WHO HEALS YOU Memory Verse: “ I am the Lord who heals you. ” – Exodus 15:26 Bible Passage : Exodus 15:22 – 27; Psalm 103:1 – 5; James 5:13 – 16 Introduction F rom the beginning of time, God has revealed Himself as a healer. After delivering Israel from Egypt, He told them, “ I am the Lord who heals you ” (Exodus 15:26). This was not only about physical healing but about His desire to make His people whole in every part of their lives. Throughout the Bible, we see God healing bodies, restoring broken hearts, forgiving sins, and renewing lives. Jesus Himself spent much of His ministry healing the sick, the blind, the lame, and the brokenhearted. Healing is not just about medicine or miracles, it is about the presence of God touching every part of our lives with His power, His grace, and His love. THE LORD WHO HEALS YOU T he Israelites had just crossed the Red Sea, delivered from Pharaoh ’ s army by God ’ s mighty hand. Yet only three days into the wilderness, they found themselves thirsty and weary at the waters of Marah, which were bitter. In their complaint, God revealed Himself to them with a new name: Jehovah Rapha— “ The Lord Who Heals You ” (Exodus 15:26). This revelation was more than about making bitter water sweet. It was a picture of God ’ s heart: He not only rescues us from slavery, but He also sustains and restores us in our journey. His healing touches every part of life: Physical healing – God heals diseases and restores health (Psalm 103:3). We believe in the power of prayer and that God can still heal today. But even Christ Chosen Sabbath Mission Inc. 2026 Sabbath School Student ’ s Manual | Page 11 when healing does not come immediately, we can trust that He is sovereign and that ultimate healing awaits us in eternity. Emotional healing – God binds up the brokenhearted and comforts the grieving (Psalm 147:3). Life leaves scars, disappointments, rejection, loss. But His love restores peace and brings hope to wounded hearts. Spiritual healing – Our greatest sickness is sin. The Bible says, “ By His wounds we are healed ” (Isaiah 53:5). Through Christ ’ s death and resurrection, we are forgiven, cleansed, and made whole. This is the deepest healing we can ever receive. The ministry of Jesus shows us God ’ s heart for healing. He touched lepers, opened blind eyes, and raised the dead. But beyond physical miracles, He healed the deeper sickness of sin. Remember when Jesus healed the paralytic in Mark 2? Before saying, “ Get up and walk, ” He first said, “ Your sins are forgiven. ” Jesus understood that the greatest healing needed was reconciliation with God. “ The greatest healing you can ever receive is the healing of your soul, when Christ forgives your sins and gives you new life. ” Physical health is temporary, our bodies grow weak with age. But spiritual healing is eternal, it prepares us for everlasting life with God. James 5:14 – 16 tells us to call the elders of the church to pray for the sick and anoint them with oil. This shows us that healing is a ministry of the church. God works through prayer, faith, and fellowship to bring restoration. However, healing is not always immediate. Paul prayed three times for his “ thorn in the flesh ” to be removed, but God said, “ My grace is sufficient for you ” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Sometimes God heals instantly. Sometimes He heals gradually. And sometimes He gives us the strength to endure until the final healing in eternity. Whatever the case, His promise is sure: He is the Lord who heals. As believers, we must look to God as our ultimate healer, trust Him in sickness and in health, and extend His healing love to others. Healing is not only about what God does in us—it is also about how He uses us to bring encouragement, compassion, and comfort to others in need.
