Common Installation Details: The breathable products SFBB, SF19BB and SF40BB can be used in Roofs and Walls and are generally installed on the external side of the construction. They incorporate a high performance ‘W1 watertight’ breather membrane as their external layer eliminating the need for a separate breather membrane layer. SF19BB and SF40BB both include a built in extra 100mm overlap and integrated sealing tape , makes install quick and easy while ensuring you get the full m² coverage from the roll. It can be used to keep heat and warmth inside a building or to prevent too much heat entering the building from outside. Radiant Barrier SuperFOIL multifoils use its wadding to trap air and form a barrier that restricts the passage of heat through conduction . The thicker the SuperFOIL multifoil, the more effective the insulation. Insulation A VCL restricts the movement of warm, moist air from inside a property into the fabric of the building, preventing condensation and mould . VCLs are typically used on the internal side of rafters and wall studs. Vapour Control Layer (VCL) A breather membrane is usually used on the external side of roofs and walls. It is designed to let moisture pass out from the fabric of the building to the air outside. SuperFOIL breathable membranes are W1 certified watertight to prevent any rain entering the building. Breathable Layer R- Values measure a product’s resistance to the transfer of heat. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation performance of the material. The overall thermal performance of a multifoil is determined by several factors- the application it is used in (roof, wall, or floor), the size of the air cavities next to the multifoil and how reflective the outer surface of the foil are. Requirement: Insulation for the ceiling and walls An empty space that had been left below an adventurous, architectural sundeck that had been built a number of years before. Kyle was looking to transform the space into something useful for him and his family. The new build already had a roof formed from a fibreglass system due to the sundeck above, so it was important that the workspace had the correct insulation to ensure that there was no risk of condensation Our technical team delivered an accurate U-value calculation and condensation risk analysis and teamed up with Kyle to decide on the perfect solution for his project. After discussion, Kyle installed SuperFOIL SF19+ with an R-value of 2.97 on the wall. A layer of SFTV was additionally used alongside SF19+ in the roof to compensate the lack of ventilation and condensation risk from the existing flat roof structure. Easy to install on my own and my daughters love the silver room, spaceship interior!!” - Kyle Case Study - Housing Association Project type: Social housing, stock upgrade Requirement: Energy efficiency Herefordshire Housing Association, announced plans of a five year project with the aim of improving the energy efficiency levels of its entire housing stock, which includes over 500 Cornish type houses with Mansard roof structure, across Herefordshire. Due to the distinctive Mansard roof structure of the building, it’s difficult to significantly improve the energy efficiency of the homes using traditional materials, with a u-value target of 0.30 W/m2.K. Since the houses were occupied, all improvement works needed to be carried out from the outside to minimise the impact on the occupants. After inspection, our experts came to the conclusion that SuperFOIL SF40 would be the perfect solution to the problem. SF40 measures to be just 65mm thick and was a suitable fit for the distinctive roofs which limits space for insulation.
