I first saw Dr Harada in the classroom after a lecture reading the palms of his students, who had so much delight being given some glimpse of their potential destiny. I quickly offered to help him write a book chapter by chapter, and Thanos at OVI Magazine was excited to post them every week. Over a two-year period, we sat down and Dr Harada told me about his concepts and applications of palm reading. I would reflect these ideas back to him, and the end product was a satisfying chapter each week. He would always take me out for a sushi lunch afterwards. Dr Yoshifumi Harada I guess the first paragraph of his first article summed up his passion. Greetings to all. My name is Dr. Harada and I have this wonderful gift that I want to share with you, the gift of being able to read one’s palm. It’s an exciting gift that if used correctly can be a guiding light for you. Before I start looking at individual lines and the significance to our daily lives, I want to go through a couple of important issues which you should always keep in mind while are reading my future columns. Over our sushi and coke one day, we decided to call the project “Quantum Palmistry”. This was because what might be read today, may have different meanings and change the next day. Palmistry is both reflective and projective of a person’s life. Thus, what one read was never static. This he tried to project this in these chapters which are now compiled into this book. The second thing Dr Harada tried to incorporate into the book, were applications to life in general. Thus, much of the book can be considered some general life advice. Dr Harada studied the subject very seriously, and practiced it at every opportunity. He always qualified The Man Without a Country the readings stating your future is not yet settled. You as an individual have power over the future by the choices you make. Finally, the reason I am sad is because Dr Harada passed away after an illness in Japan very quietly. May this book be a testament to his contribution to palmistry and the people he interconnected with. Dr Yoshifumi Harada The Man Without a Country introDuction to Palmistry: Help is only a hand away – we are the hand that guides us. The first thing to always remember is that the lines on your hand are NOT set in concrete. Consequently your destiny is not yet decided. Anything that you read from your palms is only a potential future that Dr Yoshifumi Harada you CAN change if you have the desire and believe in yourself. So reading the palm gives you an indication of where you are heading if all things stay the same. This is a great warning system we have. Your hand is like the speedometer in your car – if you are going too fast, slow down. If you are going to slow speed up so you don’t miss the opportunity coming by. Always remember the lines on your are reflective of our current health, occupation, i.e., a nurse’s hands are vastly different to a mechanic’s, and the environment you live in, i.e., agricultural, professional, blue collar, and stressful etc. Thus the hand represents your past in these ways and through reading your palm in the present connects you to a possible future. You are the one that will accept or reject it, by taking the necessary actions you have to take in your life. So, in this way there is nothing esoteric or magic in the science of palm reading, it’s just simply reflective on who and what we are. The reality is that we make our own life and the lines on our hand are reflective upon the life we have made. They reflect the consequences of what you have been doing. Thus the lines on our hand are mutually reflective of each other – a type of hologram into our inner self. If you think positively your lines on The Man Without a Country your hand will become very clear. If you worry, are a pessimistic, or anxious person, then you will find the lines on your hand will become very complex and messy. Yes, the lines on our hand do change over time as we progress through life. In this way palmistry can be very indicative of your state of mind. That’s why monkeys only have two lines on their hands – they don’t worry much. Each week, I’m going to pick a line and describe its significance to your life. So let’s take this journey together using the wisdom of this ancient art of palmistry. Dr Yoshifumi Harada is tHe rigHt HanD rigHt or tHe leFt imPortant? Let’s discuss the significance of the right and left hand to palmistry. You probably know that the left side of the brain is our rational, mathematical, lan- guage, and reasoning side. From the left side of the brain we see the world in functional ways. This is all reflected in the lines on the palm of the right hand. Your right hand is the sum of all your acquired skills, knowledge and abilities in life. It reflects your expe- rience. It is the doer of our two hands. The opposite right side of the brain are our image, musical, spatial, and holistic centres that reflect our wonderment, conceptual ideas, and abstract views of the world. Consequently, the lines on the left hand The Man Without a Country palm show our inborn talents. The left hand palm reflects changes in our aspirations, desires and ambi- tions. It’s the dreamer of our two hands. The left hand palm is pivotal to any potential change in life. The right hand palm shows the skills we have and the bare reality of today. Thus a skilled palm reading will take account of this Yin and Yang when making any determinations. The left and right hands read together show an integrated self. Remember this; all your abilities and talents that were innate within you when born show out on your right hand. However without the dreams and aspi- rations of the left hand, all the skills you possess are useless. The signs of the left hand are necessary to empower the abilities contained in the right hand. That is why some people can overcome challenges very easily because of the power they possess through the right hand with the destiny of the left. However, some with strong right hand skills can overcome the lack of destiny they appear to have with sheer deter- mination in life. You can overcome your lack of des- tiny and fate. Usually the lines on your left and right hand are similar. When they are similar your talents and ef- forts are probably in balance and you are reaping Dr Yoshifumi Harada the rewards. If however the lines on both hands are different, your may not be utilizing your right hand talents to their best degrees, and may even be in per- sonal turmoil, that needs to be resolved. The Man Without a Country looking at Fate Time to turn our attention to fate. Everybody works hard towards achieving a good and happy life. However there will be many unexpected turns in your life’s journey. When a person comes up to any of these turning points in life, wisdom is very much required to make the correct choices. Palmistry can indicate when these events may happen to us during our life. The fate line starts around the middle of the wrist and runs across the hand until the base of the middle finger (see A in the diagram). However this line may not appear clearly with 70-80% of people, or it may actually start from a different place. This is an indication that life is not always predictable. In examining the fate line, there are six major points to consider. 1. Generally speaking people who have a strongly visible fate line most probably have a good family background and education, and are people who can apply their talents in both daily and career situations. 2. Physical, emotional and mental support from Dr Yoshifumi Harada family members and relatives is shown by a line inside the lifeline in the Venus sector of the hand (see B in the diagram). The existence of this line indicates that your fortune will be enhanced by this factor. 3. You are likely to be an independent person who can only rely upon one’s own effort if you have a line jutting out from the lifeline (see C in the diagram). 4. The line starting from the Lunar sector of the hand (see D in diagram) indicates that your friends or spouse are likely to play an role in your success. This line also indicates you charisma, an important element in success. 5. If the fate line starts from the wisdom line (see E). In these cases this means that life will be a struggle until into your early 30s. After that point life will dramatically improve and be easier. The distance between the heart line (see F in diagram) and wisdom line (see G in diagram) indicates the The Man Without a Country turning point in your life. Generally speaking if the gap is wide you may have an early turning point, say around 30 years old, whereas if the gap is narrow you may have a later turning point in life, say around 35 years old. 6. The line jutting out from the heart line (see H in diagram) indicates the struggle that you undergo in your life until your mid 50s. However the exact time in life that life gets easier for you is difficult to read from this line as actual timing depends upon other factors like the size of your hand, etc. Fate lines vary in their consistency. Sometimes the break and the fate line is made of two or more lines that overlap. This can also be another indication of turning points in your life and may indicate that you may face multiple turning points during your life. The advantage of being able to read your fate line is that it provides you the time to plan for the future. To some extent fate is in your hands and reward and success depends upon the efforts and hard work you put in, and decisions you make at the turning points you face. Please remember if your fate line doesn’t look good, that is not crucial to your success. The crucial factor is the effort you put in, and your fate is in both your hands. Dr Yoshifumi Harada looking at occuPation Let’s have a look at how the palm can indicate to us what type of occupations may be most suitable for us. Our abilities and skills should be carefully matched as closely as possible to our job needs. The closer our skills and job needs are matched, the higher the probability that we will have success in our career. If your skills don’t match your job requirements, then any amount of hard work is not likely to lead to success than if your skills matched. This wisdom line on our hand is one of the ways can help us see if our skills match potential job and occupations we are considering. The Man Without a Country The standard wisdom line (A) starts at right hand side of our palm running along the middle until about equal to the middle of our ring finger (B). This represents the average person who can harmonize themselves to a general working environment. If the wisdom line is longer than average (C), this tends to indicate that a person is very careful with what they do. If the wisdom line is shorter than average (D) this means that a person tends to be motivated by material rather than spiritual things, and thus tend to be very realistic about prospects. These people may also tend to act on whims, rather than making careful consideration about issues. This can be a strength or weakness. Acting without careful thinking may be very important in an entrepreneurial venture where quick decisions need to be made. However rash decisions could also be unwise decisions, if they are reckless. If the wisdom line runs almost the total length of the hand (E), those people have better aptitude Dr Yoshifumi Harada towards science based occupation like engineering, chemistry, medicine, computing, and architecture, etc. However if the wisdom line curves down like (F), those people may be best suited to occupations based on social science like law, psychology, counseling, or journalism, etc. The steeper the curve the more creative and intuitive these people may tend to be. They could be a creative writer, musician, media producer, or artist, etc. If the wisdom line starts just above the life line (G), these people will tend to be independent and self motivated, perhaps suited entrepreneurs. If the wisdom line starts below the life line (H), these people may tend to be more anxious about things. In addition the line intersection may also mean that these people may be introverts and prefer jobs that don’t come in contact with the general public like a clerk in the back office. In the opposite situation where the wisdom line starts a long way away from the life line, these people are quick decision makers. These people would make good currency, equity and commodity traders, where speculation is required. Finally where the wisdom and life lines are very far apart (I), these are usually very active people. However they may tend to seek power over others and control people. These people are ambitious and
