Mr Kelly appeared by video - link in Carnarvon Magistrates Court from the maximum - security Casuarina Prison on Monday on charges including for cibly taking a child under 16. The 36 - year - old is accused of abducting the four - year - old from the tent she shared with her family at the Blowholes campsite, north of Carnarvon, before holding her captive at his two - bedroom house, where she was found 18 day s later. Mr Kelly was wearing a grey T - shirt and sat at a desk holding his hands together, occasionally playing with his fingers. It appeared as though his long hair was tied back. He did not speak at all and only nodded when he was asked to confirm his na me. His lawyer Kate Turtley - Chappel appeared in court for Mr Kelly by phone. She said she had received material from police but expected more late next week, so requested an adjournment for seven weeks to take into account the Christmas period. Mr Kelly di d not indicate how he would plead to the charges. He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until January 24. An aunt of Terence Kelly leaves the Carnarvon Magistrates Court. Two detectives were in the court for the brief appearance. A woman, understood to be Mr Kelly’s aunt, was also in the public gallery. Asked how his family was dealing since Mr Kelly w as charged, she replied: “How do you think they are feeling?” She refused to comment further. It was the first time Mr Kelly has been seen in public since he was pictured boarding a plane chartered to fly him to Perth escorted by officers from the Departme nt of Justice’s Special Operations Group. It came after police revealed Mr Kelly had self - harmed twice in the cells and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.
